I have no doubt that the PS3 will reach 10 million and beyond that much more. To be honest I am 360 person, but I do have a PS3 now for about 3 months. As a gaming/multimedia device, the PS3 is an impressive machine. I love it. The hardware is solid as far as I can tell. Excellent product all around. But the fact is that most of my gaming is done on my 360. All my friends have 360, none of them have a PS3. But that doesn't make the PS3 a bad machine, not at all. The matter of fact is that the 360 as a piece of hardware is crap. Tell me about it. This is the third time I have had to fix my 360. But I will fix it a 100 times more, because I love it and all the entertainment I get from it.

Anyways what I want to say is that I really want the PS3 to succeed. I want to be able to play more awesome titles like MGS4 and Killzone 2 on my PS3. I also like my black behemoth.

@ Cyro

Your comment should be circulated throughout the gaming world. If everyone could think in such a clear and unbiased way, these ridiculous flame wars might get a little less intense.

Good to see them not shooting their mouths off. I still remember them claiming 10 million sold in its first 4 months. Being realistic goes a long way in PR land.

Although the PS3 has a more solid hardware, it's just worth for the Sony exclusives, IMO, like LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, Killzone 2, Uncharted...

The multi-platform adaptations always get worse in PS3, 'cause it's easier to program for the 360.

Sony/partners (Guerilla, Naughty Dog, etc.) developers are who really know how to really use the PS3 potential, and superior hardware.

I rather be a Xbox 360 owner, with a lot of multi-platform GOOD games, than a PS3 owner with great exclusives but mediocre Multi games(360 has it share of good exclusives too.

I think at this stage, the games themselves are pretty even - it's the additional DLC and the whole idea of exclusivity that makes the 360 worthwhile. Plus Live is pretty chill if you're willing to spend a small amount per year for Gold.

I think the 360 really shines in the XBLA selection also.

Multiplatform games are nearly identical now. And as far as exclusivity of DLC goes, just yesterday, PS3 got exclusive Mirror's Edge DLC, and isn't BioShock's extra challenge rooms PS3-exclusive? And though PSN is a free service, with a few tiny exceptions, it does the exact same thing the 360 does for a yearly fee.

I think the PS3 and 360 are on equal playing ground now.

PSN has a long way to go and certain deficiencies are outright impossible to fix this generation, mainly a unified friends list. A great example of a problem that gets me steamed is the system doesn't bother to notify you if you get a friend request when your system is off. You actually have to scroll over there to look. Same with messages.

Unified friends list - Why should I sign up on every single game when Live gives me a single login to handle this? That will never get fixed in the PS3s lifetime as this would likely break most of the multiplayer that already set up a login system.

Also, I do have a PS3. I got an IM two days ago from a friend asking me why I didn't add him to the friends list. Basically, I was never notified and it was sitting there for two weeks. Does the PS3 actually tell you when you got a friend request when your system was turned off? How about a message? Nope, you pretty much have to scroll over to the far right of the navigation bar just to tell. This tends to get irritating as most days there's nothing there.

Seems like someone doesn't have any friends or spends way too much time plugged into the system to have not noticed this issue.

lol, seems we aren't using the same system here.

Sign up to every single game? I don't know if you've been playing any EA games (they require registration on EA's servers) but otherwise, one login gets you online with every single game in the PS3's library. It's most certainly unified.

And when I boot up my PS3, it'll say "You have received a message" or "You have received a friend request" if I received either while it was off.

Are you suuuuuuure you have a PS3?

Sony's console has been on third place. The Wii has unexpectedly won the race. The 360, with its low cost, is moderately selling on. People are predicting that the PS3 will soon be gone. Shovelware, no games, red rings of deaths .All is propaganda and a bit phony

It's alright, Playstation 3. You can make it.

Sony is in "last" out of the big 3 now, but in 2 years where do you see them ??? How about 4 ? 7 or 10??? Xbox 720 will be out in 5 years. The Wii will sputter out with all the same dumb shit Nintendo makes over and over again, and that fantastic shovelware. Ps3 will be running strong, with superior ports of all games fantastic exclusives and blu-ray movies. I'll take being on top for the last 6 years over a jump start outta the gate for 2 anyday. Who wouldnt prefer to go out at the top of the game instead of used beaten and forgoten??

I doubt the Wii will be around for 5 more years. Nintendo will probably release a higher tech Wii 2 3 years before Xbox 720 and the PS4 launch in order to conquer the next generation also. This is assuming that this generation will last 10 years of course.

@bigpurps, I do have to agree. With the economy as it is, Sony's 10 year plan seems to be the strongest. I mean, there are STILL good PS2 games coming out (and that's where the RPGs apparently are still landing). Wii will have to update/upgrade its hardware at some point and so will the 360. Especially with its still existing (I believe, but correct me if'n I'm wrong!) hardware issues.

Where do I see Sony in 2 year? Still in last place, still with the most expensive system, still with nothing significant that really seperates it from the 360 to justify that higher price tag.

Where will it be in 4 years? Dead.

The PS3 is $400 right now. In slightly over 2 years MS will be releasing their next-gen system. MS will probably launch with a base model priced at $300, so Sony has about 2 years to cut the PS3 price in half or it will be dead the day MS launches their next-gen system.

After all, who would want to pay $250 or more for a PS3 when they can get a next-gen console that does everything the PS3 can do and much more for only $300?

Sony's 10 year plan for the PS3 is dead. By the time the system is cheap enough for the casual gamers to start looking at the next-gen will have started and it will be competing with next-gen consoles that can run circles around it all day long without much difference in price.

You might see this generation last longer because of the economy. Also you act as if it is hard fact that Microsoft will be launching another console in 2 years when in fact its all speculation.

Next-gen Xbox launch in November 2011. Count on it.

And you can bet your retirement fund that Sony will release the PS4 by November 2012.

MS wants that advantage of launching a year earlier than Sony again, and Sony absolutely cannot afford to launch 2 years after MS and let MS get a lead of 20+ million systems before the first PS4 is sold. MS knows Sony goes 6 years between generations so MS planned for a 6 year span between the 360 and next-gen from the start.

MS will launch in 2011, and Sony had damned well be ready to launch in 2012 no matter what happens with the PS3.

And I can assure you that both MS and Sony know that they need to keep their systems in the sub-$400 range if they want them to sell well.

A magazine called "Friday" which is popular in Japan seems to have an index saying, "Largest negative figures, The day Sony will throw away Playstation - Business year ending March 2009 group operating profits." in Japanese.

I heard that this magazine is going to be released on the January, 30th and I haven't read it yet, just know the index from this website. (Its in Japanese.)

I agree with this article, Sony actually has sold pretty decent numbers compared to previous generations. The problem is the other consoles are selling far better.

You see the same problem in MMO's war hammer and City of heroes have a good following's and are profitable but compared to warcraft they look like flops.

Too bad Sony expected the PS3 to sell another hundred million at $500 a pop, and jump start blu-ray and save the company, the console isn't doing THAT well.

I am not sure why the sales for the PS3 are not better. It has so much capability to expand beyond gaming. This is coming from someone who only has the Wii and the PS3. I am not the hardcore gamer, I am casual at best. My kids are pretty much the die hard fans. I am fiscally conservative, but even though the PS3 is a little more expensive, I saw the benefit in a stand alone Blu-ray player, The Playon media server to stream hulu and xbox, competes with Apple TV, the fail rate is leaps and bounds better than an x-box, and the compatibility with my wireless apple keyboard and mouse. All of this is is just great for the tech junkie in me, but when we add in the actual gaming into the mix at 1080p, we have the typical games MGS, (I am a hardcore fan) Rockband, and Guitar Hero World tour. I just cannot understand why people do not see that the PS3 has the best value in the market today.

Which previous generation are you referring to?

Because the last system that sold less than the PS3 during December without a new generation of system launching was the Dreamcast.

by the end of the ps3 life span we will have been able to play many great games..

when consoles have failed in the past they ususally stop support very quickly and we do not get many games out of it.
