Writer Marv Wolfman signs up for DC Universe Online
Earlier this week we heard about a secret comic book "legend" joining the DC Universe Online development team. The silhouetted individual was supposed to be revealed at New York Comic Con next weekend. Of course, you didn't expect it to remain a secret until then, did you? The latest issue of Wizard magazine (via BigDownload) has let the Black Cat out of the bag: writer Marv Wolfman will be enlisting with previously revealed comic veterans Geoff Jones and Jim Lee and the rest of Sony Online.
The creator of Blade and writer of Crisis on Infinite Earths will be expanding and adding to the narrative already written by Jones, while Lee is handling the art direction. Even though the surprise has apparently been spoiled, you'll still be able to enjoy a brand new playable demo at the convention. Look for the DC Universe Online panel on Saturday, February 7.

...psst, Black Cat is Marvel. You're thinking of Catwoman.
doom saber @ Jan 31st 2009 4:39AM
No, they meant Black Cat. Black Cat despite being Marvel was created by Marv Wolfman. The pun would work better if Black Cat was DC, but still works as the reference was in regards to the writer and not the company.

uhhh... his name is Geoff Johns, not Geoff Jones.
duh.
NERDRAGE!!!!
neftones @ Jan 30th 2009 1:51PM
Come on guys, it can't be that hard to double check a name. Especially someone as big in the industry as Geoff Johns.
justinslot @ Jan 30th 2009 2:07PM
I would have thought there would be comic book nerd/video game nerd crossover knowledge.
neftones @ Jan 30th 2009 1:55PM
even better, the tag on the entry is "georff-jones." bang up job here.
Regault @ Jan 30th 2009 2:08PM
Geoff Johns? So we can expect the main storyline of the game to be "Campy characters from the sixties and seventies turn grimdark and brutally murder obscure characters from the 80s and 90s."?
And I thought MadWorld was going to have a lot of arterial spray.

So... I guess you're NOT looking forward to "Blackest Night," then?
Johns is actually the guy that got me reading GL again. I sort of fell off after the Hal/Parallax/Coast City nonsense.
doom saber @ Jan 31st 2009 4:32AM
At least the game doesn't have Grant Morrison doing some of the storyline at the moment. Some fans are pissed on how he scribed Batman R.I.P. and Final Crisis with the whole plot involving a possibility that Thomas Wayne faked his own death so as to kill off his wife, who was rumored to have an affair with Alferd. Even if it was proven that wasn't the real MR. WAyne, Rip was pretty gritty.

Hilarious... i'll have to check out some of that georff jones' work. he sounds like quite the writer.

This game is shaping up to be awesome especially for home consoles. I'm curious about the online pricing structure where the game will be free to play, monthly fee or funded through optional microtransactions. It's really uncharted territory for an online console MMO. I was more excited about Champions Online but that has now shifted to DC Universe Online.
grover96 @ Jan 30th 2009 2:08PM
Will I be able to knock-out Batman with "one punch"?
Mr Khan @ Jan 30th 2009 2:08PM
The comic book industry is really very open. Talent seems to flow freely from one company to another, like how this guy did Marvel's Blade and DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths.
grover96 @ Jan 30th 2009 2:22PM
Not freely at all. The big names tend to get exclusive contracts. Johns has worked for both DC and Marvel also.
aristokrat @ Jan 30th 2009 2:29PM
Regault, if you worried about Johns' contribution, Wolfman will make things horribly convoluted, throw in strange asides as humor (see Earth-C and Captain Carrot), and then just start erasing things to finally sort out the story. Oh wait, that sounds perfect for an MMO.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 30th 2009 3:11PM
nice......should draw more people to play it.......although I dont see as many people playing on PS3 as PC.......even with Keyboard & Mouse support
DarkeSword @ Jan 30th 2009 3:19PM
So they're going to rename this game to Vigilante Online? ;)
QAguy @ Jan 30th 2009 4:23PM
The more I hear about this game, the more I'm getting interested...Can't wait for this to come out now. It'll be cool to have an MMO on a console, since I skipped out on FFXI
badbob001 @ Jan 30th 2009 4:58PM
Haven't been reading comics for many years, but when did Robin get so buff? Or is that some sort of Batman Jr?
False @ Jan 30th 2009 5:01PM
If this means an eventual "Crisis on Infinite Earths" expansion pack, I'm even more in than I already was!
I also send much love to Wolfman's "Judas Contract" story from back in the day. Tangling with Deathstroke in video game form (aside from MK vs. DC) will be kick ass.
Batzarro @ Jan 30th 2009 5:43PM
Hold on, let me put on my ridiculously large glasses and my suspender...
BLACK CAT IS MARVEL, NOT DC!
Unless.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yRo5chgIcE
doom saber @ Jan 31st 2009 4:36AM
Even though Black Cat is Marvel, they meant HER and not Catwoman. Black Cat was created by Wolfman, therefore the pun works to a degree. Pun would work better if Black Cat = DC

this looks interesting
