why is there no Joystiq podcast on iTunes any more?

and why is the podcast RSS still displaying all the articles that are posted on the site?!?!?

The Podcast "category" is still displaying the entire feed. Go here:
http://www.joystiq.com/category/podcasts

Also, the podcast RSS is actually redirecting here, which is accurate:
http://www.joystiq.com/category/podcasts/rss.xml

The links got broken with all the database work we did, and the redirects were removed when we added the new subdomains. We're getting everything back in order, but we'll need to poke iTunes to get it operating again.

Also, if you're already subscribed in iTunes, it should have no trouble finding the latest episode. I just checked on my subscription, and it worked fine. We're just not in the "store" at the moment.

I don't want to sound *too* much like an anus, but neither of those problems have happened in the zune software. But I still really wish there were comments in zune podcasts, and that the software worked well on my laptop. :

Although I appreciate the (albeit late) podcast, I must say that if this happens once more, I'll have to sell my Joystiq stock: it's already at an all-time low, and honestly, I can't keep stealing from my spouse's purse much longer.

Per The Twitter (tm), Justin has been without internets since West Virginia got backhanded by a nasty winter storm this week. Hence his limited presence.

Also, "Fire Justin McElroy" is a running joke.

It'll get a bit awkward when we find out he's a nazi paedophile, and nobody's sure how genuine the protest is.

Am I the only one having problems playing the podcast? Maybe it's the fact that my internet has been really wonky lately (read: I capped my bandwidth), but the show is only about twenty minutes long for me. The irony: it stops right after Ludwig asks if the podcast is still recording because you had Randy jump into the call.

About what Ludwig said about Square releasing a subtitled version of FFXIII on PS3 in the US before releasing a localized version: I think more Japanese companies need to do that because American localizations (Voice) for the most part are terrible. Plus, it would encourage the wonders of READING among video game players.

and, because the PS3 is not region locked, the people in the US can buy it at the same time as the Japanese

Seeing that Persona 4 was localised and released withing 6 months, and I presume it started after the Jap release, that Square must have a reason for doing what they are.

Being hugely cynical (and with zero knowledge on the matter) one might assume that Square quite fancy having a much prolonged revenue stream for the game. For a company that size a worldwide release is entirely doable. Star Ocean, Last Remnant etc show that it's almost become a trend so with a franchise as HUGE as FF with guaranteed sales predictions one has to assume they want the game to sell consistantly through the 2-3 years since it's Jap release.

I really think Square are like, it's guaranteed to sell a fuk tonne no matter how we shaft those whiteys, so it's very much on their terms.

I presume there is a lot more to it but bottom line is they can do what they want and we'll still buy it.

"But they won't subtitle the Japanese version into English."

I think the point here is that they could, and should. We've already seen games like Phoenix Wright come out in Japan with both english and japanese subtitles, and subtitling in english wouldn't require unrealistic amounts of additional resources from developers, but - especially on home-consoles (as opposed to portables) - would still allow for the fully localized version to have additional value, with proper voice acting, and less engrish.

Many japanese games, and this is especially true with RPGs, already come with japanese subtitles, and having someone translate the japanese dialog and menus to english wouldn't take much.

Just my $.02
