Ugh, that stupid "more dilemma" in Bioshock. If you kill a Little Sister, you get 80 Adam. If you save one, you get 40 Adam. BUT! If you save 3, you get 100 extra Adam, which means you only miss out on a total of 20 Adam. Plus, with that 100 Adam, you also get a nifty free Plasmid and an item. The game doesn't punish you for being the good guy, it REWARDS you. What kind of a tough choice is that to make?

Well it depends on how urgently the player feels they need it. I was talking with a friend about this a few months ago and he said that he never spared one while I always spared them.

I asked him why and he simply said that he wanted a lot of Adam so that he could have the freedom to get whatever he wants and become stronger. It makes perfect sense, but to each his own.

You still get a lot of Adam for not killing them, and you get plasmids that would be worth more than the 20 Adam you lose. Saving them is the right choice, and if they had been successful in making the game morally ambiguous, there wouldn't be a right choice at all.

The worst thing about the new site has to be that stuff like this doesn't get to the PS3 section of PS joysticq. I could say that 65% of us still use PS3fanboy.com as the main way to reach here. Couldn't we have a option to make PS3fanboy reach the default method to getting here, such as how it was just when we moved...?

Otherwise i'm sorry to hear this will be the last Philosony, the always made a good read.

No, the worst thing is the cross-pollination of trolls from each respective site being redirected to centralized articles. The 2 communities used to be separated by a thin line. Now there's no line.

Kylie,

I just wanted to say thank you for your contributions to PS3 Fanboy as it really helped me think about gaming in a different way. I will miss all your columns and I feel you have just recently started getting into your groove. You are without a doubt my favorite contributor here at PS3F. Good luck with all your future academic endeavors and wherever life takes you in the future.

Please feel free to add me to your PSN friends list so we can play some games together.

Hey Kyle,

Great run here on PSFanboy, you will be missed for sure but I'll be reading your new blog. I specially loved your article on natural born talent and fighting games. Are you gonna put those skills to test on SF4? Hit me up!

P.S: I feel that the since the change from PSF to Joystiq Playstation our little PS community here is... changing. I don't really feel comfortable with it. :(

I think alot of people feel like you do, myself included. We should all migrate to another site and just cherrypick Joystiq articles.

Honestly, it was never difficult for me to save the little sisters, and I had actually avoided most spoilers, so I didn't realize I was going to be rewarded for saving them until I actually received my first reward. Even then, I remembered reading that being good left you with less ADAM, so I assumed that I was still running on less ADAM than I might otherwise have been.

Once I beat the game, I replayed up to the first little sister and destroyed her, just to see what happened, and it literally made me feel sick. For someone going into the game somehow having managed to avoid the spoilers, the choice presented with the little sisters really is a moral dilemma. I've ALWAYS been more inclined to be good than evil in games (citing a few Xbox/PC examples, my first playthroughs of Fable, Fable 2, KOTOR, KOTOR2, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect were ALL done on the "perfect good" path. I played through the evil paths for completions' sake, but I still automatically gravitate toward being "good" whenever I start new characters in any of those games), so I'm sure personal inclination plays into it, but for a non-gamer, I could see the first little sister choice in Bioshock being really moving, and possibly even traumatic.

I agree on that last point. I think that those hardcore gamers that focus solely on the cold facts of the gameplay repercussions of the Little Sister choice are really missing out on the emotional side of the experience -- and that is a major part of Bioshock. If you're going to be that cold and objective about everything you do in a game, I don't see how you could ever really get the full experience of anything beyond puzzle games...

When I played Bioshock I always saved the little sisters. I also didn't know that I would get rewarded for doing so. I never told myself, "OK, I'm going to save all of them", I just figured I'd make my decision when I got there, and I always saved them. I plan to play the game again and harvest all of them just to see how it changes the game.

Oh, and goodbye I've always enjoyed your article and I'll be sure to check out your new blog.

I'm just writing to say I actually like your style of writing and think you offer a lot to websites like these.

Although I hate everything Sony, PS3 included(except some games) I do think you are quite the interesting blogger.

This is also my first time reading your article (thanks to Joystiqs new thin line everyone is complaining about, I discovered you), sad to see you go though. I like to think of myself at least a pseudo-intellectual.

Since you seem to be a professor of some sort(?) I'd like to point out that your "to" in the send-off at the end should have had two o's in it. Or is that too o's. Or to o's.
