Bethesda ranks Oblivion DLC, Horse Armor still selling
Considering that the term "Horse Armor" has become a common idiom when referring to unnecessary, costly DLC, we find it somewhat surprising that people are still purchasing Oblivion's equestrian plate mail. However, a recent Bethesda Blog post which ranked Oblivion's available add-ons by their total sales figures claimed, "even Horse Armor continues to sell daily." While pondering the type of folks who would drop two-and-a-half American dollars to trick out their virtual ponies, check out how the rest of the DLC measured up:
- Wizard's Tower
- Thieves Den
- Mehrunes Razor
- Spell Tomes
- Vile Lair
- The Orrery
- Knights of the Nine
- Shivering Isles
- Horse Armor
- Fighter's Stronghold

I guess that water is really hot =/.
I have to check for myse*OUCH*
ThornedVenom (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Feb 1st 2009 3:44PM
But is it scientifically accurate to say that boiling water is hot? It is our duty to repeat the experiment over and over again in order to constantly test the validity of the hypothesis.
I'll just go che*OUCH*
Turd Ferguson @ Feb 1st 2009 3:47PM
maybe we should beat a dead horse with boiled water. i liked the first one though, Dr. Jekyll
Turd Ferguson @ Feb 1st 2009 3:49PM
how's that for a relevant idiom

That's why I hate human beings...if I told you that the universe is made of trillions of galaxies and/or try and explain quantum physics, you'd take my word for it.
If I told you that the bench has been freshly painted, the first thing one would to is go and see for themselves.

Wiinterfang @ Feb 1st 2009 2:15PM
To be fair, Armored horses=Awesome.
BigD145 @ Feb 1st 2009 2:25PM
Dead armored horse = not so awesome.
ZeroCorpse @ Feb 1st 2009 2:29PM
Yeah, but the armor doesn't even provide real protection! It's just a skin that does nothing in game stats. For that, we shouldn't be paying more than $1 and it should really, probably be a free reward for finishing the main quest.
Wiinterfang @ Feb 1st 2009 2:36PM
It doesn't? well it still looks pretty neat.
DemonGSides @ Feb 1st 2009 2:53PM
I'll admit I bought it. Horses look sick in the silver armor. As did that invincible horse that you get... however I think it glitches it, as I got it, and then it *Died* but then never respawened.
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 1st 2009 3:00PM
I prefer armour with neon lights and side skirts :(
Truegod @ Feb 1st 2009 3:05PM
Horse armor doubles the horses health. I have the horse Shadowmere, who often attacks enemies. Because he is frequently in combat I bought the horse armor. Plus it looks bad-ass.
BigD145 @ Feb 1st 2009 6:18PM
I prefer riding a flying dragon. It's far more awesome than an armored horse.

Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 1st 2009 2:15PM
I remember I never knew where I left the horse so I fetched a new one every time like cars in GTA.I hope the horse armor isn't something you lose if you lose the horse but yeah why would anyone buy that?
(I stop playing Oblivion because I messed up my character.Apparently the spellwarrior is a puny warrior and an useless mage all in one.)
ShadowMonkey987 @ Feb 2nd 2009 6:56AM
the horse goes back to where your originally brought it from
say you brought the horse cheydinhal and then lost it
unless it died along the way back it should be in the stables when you next go to where you brought it from
if the horse was called shadowmere and you armoured it up and you lost TOUGH LUCK because once you lose that horse its gone for good dont forget shadowmere if one of those unkillable characters where if you kill them they go unconsiece (knocked out) and you can loot his body and put stuff in it and he becomes a horse that can carry all your loot

Considering how much more we pay for a good gaming rig vs. a console and now many developers supporting the consoles over PC, we deserve a little something something, even if they are nude mods from the community. : D

I liked the fighters stronghold, :O. owning your own castle is badass.
Haggard @ Feb 1st 2009 2:23PM
It was available free for some time wasn't it?
I got it off a DVD that came with a games mag for the PC version after that month of free expired, but I thought that they made it free once again.
Cal @ Feb 1st 2009 3:25PM
Yeah I think it was free around the beginning of 2007
DBoyFlex @ Feb 1st 2009 3:41PM
I got it for free also, worth being free.
Turd Ferguson @ Feb 1st 2009 2:24PM
That xbla fireplace screensaver was on the bestselling list for a while too.
Haggard @ Feb 1st 2009 2:25PM
Oblivion, still my favourite open-world RPG. I'll be picking up Morrorwind once I've finished all last year's games (not to mention all the ones that are hitting this month: KZ2 and SF4 I'm looking at you, plus a probable Rock Band 2 european PS3 launch), and I really hope that it draws me in as much as oblivion did - and a lot of people say it's better.
Lennoko @ Feb 1st 2009 2:53PM
morrorwind is pretty awsome. All though no quick travel gets old.
Saria the Cat @ Feb 1st 2009 3:20PM
Would you agree, then, that having experience playing Oblivion would benefit a person playing Fallout? Because there are a lot of gameplay nuances I don't pick up right away when playing Fallout, and people tell me, "Well, it was like that in Oblivion."
Then again, I may just be slow on the uptake.
Lennoko @ Feb 1st 2009 3:32PM
Possibly. I mean the exploration and skills and such where the exact same in Oblivion, but the combat and some other small things did cause an experienced oblivion player a Small learning curve, like an hour or so, least in my opinion. Now if you went into Fall Out without oblivion, then im sure the learning curve would be around 2-3 hours steeper.
DBoyFlex @ Feb 1st 2009 3:42PM
What, no Sonics ultimate genesis collection for you? Who can pass up 40 games for 30 bucks?
Haggard @ Feb 1st 2009 4:05PM
Oblivion is, in my opinion, better than Fallout.
There's more content, the environments are not only bigger but a lot more beautiful (you can argue how amazing and satirical the wastelands are but in the end they still give me a brown-induced headache), and I actually felt immersion in the world.
Lennoko @ Feb 1st 2009 4:14PM
I agree 100% that oblivion is greater then fallout 3, but i also think that fallout is better then 95% of the other RPG's I've played. Least in my opinion.
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Feb 1st 2009 4:32PM
i didn't like oblivion. i got lost really easily and everytime i stole something while no one was around and i was in stealth, i got caught and officers chased me around until i either killed them or ran into the water. but of course killing them brought out more so i basically spent half my time playing standing in the water waiting for the officers to go away. :/ oh and the animations and voice acting made me sick.
i like fallout though. same problems with the animations but now we have guns and NUKES!!! :) but the no playing after the ending part just sucks and we don't get any dlc on ps3. :(
Strategy_Panda (Pot & Spoon 4 Life) @ Feb 1st 2009 6:21PM
I like Oblivion and Fallout equally. There are parts of both games I don't really care for, and other parts that make each game shine on their own.
Don't expect Morrowind to be drastically different from Oblivion (Oblivion was a lot better in my opinion, mainly for the refined engine and technical aspects of the game).
If your looking to play and awesome RPG, and don't mind old graphics engines, check out Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Definitely the most engrossing and fleshed out universe of all the Elder Scrolls games

This was a cool story when I read it on Bethesda blog over a week ago
Cannon @ Feb 1st 2009 3:06PM
Actually it wasn't, because it wasn't on Joystiq.
Saria the Cat @ Feb 1st 2009 3:16PM
So, what are you trying to do here?
Advocate for people to spend all their time on every news and developer's blog simultaneously to glean information as SOON as it is released?
Or boast that you are a devoted enough fan to read the Bethesda blog in an attempt to wave your e-penis around?
Either way, I remain unimpressed and annoyed.
justshovejayohbe @ Feb 1st 2009 3:25PM
I had the impression that most people online had figured out RSS and RSS readers and subscribed to more blogs than AOL Joystiq.
I hate seeing sites like this score advertising for content that is completely unoriginal.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Ultrastiq Revolutionary) @ Feb 1st 2009 3:26PM
you hear that Jay? Saria isn't impressed by the size of your e-penis. Take some "natural supplements" and try again later
Saria the Cat @ Feb 1st 2009 3:36PM
@justshovejayohbe: "...content that is completely unoriginal." Um, you just described every news source ever. News stories are never "original content." Otherwise you'd be witnessing it instead of reading about it.
And, yes, a lot of people know how to subscribe to RSS. The problem is, I subscribe to about 40 different feeds. Only a few of them are video game related. Don't assume everyone has the same priorities you do.
justshovejayohbe @ Feb 1st 2009 3:48PM
"News stories are never "original content." Otherwise you'd be witnessing it instead of reading about it."
I'm not entirely sure how you're supposed to "witness" statistical analyses such as this (Or abstracts, case studies, editorials, or thesis statements for that matter). Joystiq's writers could easily have made this into a useful piece of content by not just doing "copy paste" of a 1-10 list but by perhaps researching and trying to survey/understand WHY the order ranking turned out this way. Unfortunately, though, the priority on sites like these is to blow the load of content onto page one, throw in a 50 word "witty" paragraph, generate ad revenue, and move on to the short-attention-span audience's next breadcrumb of information.
As for RSS feeds, you can effortlessly create folders to organize your 40+ subscriptions and even use tags or just use a google blog search feed to aggregate an entire category (or categories) of data. You should try it, it'll give you an opportunity to subscribe to way more feeds and improve the quality and diversity of your reading material.
