The PSP-exclusive Final Fantasy brawler may be the only fighting game featuring the famed RPG characters for quite some time. Tetsuya Nomura revealed in the Japanese "Ultimania" strategy guide that a sequel isn't in the works, in spite of plans to originally make one. (Translation via 1UP) "There are no current plans for a sequel. To be honest, I wanted to do one up until a few months ago. I even called [Mitsunori] Takahashi, the planning director, and [Ryuji] Ikeda, the lead programmer, to talk about sequel concepts -- I told them to think about what they were going to do and prepare themselves [to make a sequel]."
Although there was intent to create a sequel, it appears that idea is dead. Nomura said that making a sequel would be "very difficult," although didn't provide any details. Considering Dissidia isn't out in the US yet, we're still waiting for the original game before clamoring for a sequel.

square-enix NOT making a sequel? that surprises and disappoints the inner s-e fanboy in me... but not entirely. hopefully this means the developers are busy trying to make something fresh and new, instead of milking 10+ year old ip's.

Square should move every one to the FFXII, Versus, and the PSP one. Get those out first then worry about the rest

They need another set of pro-/antagonists. I'm thinking Dissidia II after FFXXVI.

A remake or port for the PS3 wouldn't hurt.

Is this really big news? The game isn't even out here and honestly, it may be a Final Fantasy title but it's basically an arena fighter standalone title. Why make a big deal out of sequel uncertainty at this point?
I think it's a much bigger problem that the game is taking 8 or so months to release here, along with the fact that it's one of *very* few JP titles actually being imported at all.
I'll take half a dozen good JP imports over a second Dissidia. Along with some of the new system colors, camera, GPS, PSN updates, demos, downloadable games, etc. etc. etc.

how about a ps3 version including the other FF characters asides from the main pro/antagonists

How about DCL for characters like Kain, Zack, Seifer, yuna and other such characters, who needs a sequal when all they need is to add character monthly or something.
