After the update, none of my xbox 360 video outputs work. My 360 worked fine last night. Even with the NXE, I never had problems with the hdmi audio. However, I started it up this morning, went to the bathroom, came back and the hdmi video was not working. I tried the component cable, composite cables, a different tv, but all I can get is audio.

Any advice?

Couldn't care less about this little update. I can't even use HDMI until they release some sort of dongle so I can #*%*ing use Optical Out from the 360. That 5.1 Dolby Surround sound is far more important than a minuscule increase in visual clarity, which is why I'm forced to stick to the component out cables so I can use my optical out audio cable. That pretty picture from the digital signal isn't going to tell me if someone is sneaking up from behind.

And don't anyone start with this "oh you can use the pass through optical out on the tv" nonsense. First off the vast majority of HDTV's on the market do not support optical out from the HDMI input on the TV and secondly I couldn't live with the quality degradation of the digital signal from the pass through. When you use a set of Dolby Digital Headphones you can notice it, quite annoying.

After further research they do apparently have such a device but I would have to buy an HDMI kit from MS just to get the damn thing, I'm not doing that. It should have been included with my Elite purchase or given out free from the site. Bet the new Elite boxes come with them now too.

Oh well, feel a bit stupid now for jumping the gun. They didn't have this when the Elite came out. This is one thing I do like about the PS3 though, they have a plug for everything on that bastard device.

Anticrawl:

Take the cable that was included with your 360 (the HD/AV cable) that has the optical out on it...

Now, stick a screwdriver or thin, metal object in the seam on the plastic connector, and pop the plastic shell off the connector...

Now, plug THAT into your 360 and use the optical output. Do not plug in the video cables...

Now, plug in your HDMI cable, as it will now fit next to the trimmed-down HD/AV cable...

Now, stop whinging, because you could have done this ages ago.

Do i have to download the update even if i don't have the problem? The only problem i have is the xbox guide freezing because it won't display my friend's gamer pictures.

Uh...Is anyone else having trouble with their 360 freezing? I started the "update" about 50 minutes ago, and nothing's happened. It won't even let me cancel the update.

WTF is going on. This update is taking forever!! Not to mention the
XBOX 360 is now acting kinda weird like. And by weird I mean freezing up.
SOB!

From experience, if something is not broken, dont fix it. So this update should've been optional for those how did not have a problem.

You know it's kinda funny my elite is now giving me video issues through component cables now (A very colorful and distored display of reds blues and greens on the screen.Shut system off gave it a few mins and now I'm getting an E74 error the lower right red light(video error) Tried a second 2nd set of cables and got same message.Since I updated this afternoon and had no issues before. I'm thinking this update just killed my system. MS fixing a 360 issue for some breaking more systems and creating new issues for others.

my 360 does the same thing with my Samsung. If I switch the source while my 360 is on, the 360 will reset itself. But my ps3 does'nt do that.

Erm ... I didn't have any HDMI issues at all prior to this week's update, but whatever they did absolutely toasted something. Way to go, Microsoft!

Now I have no audio over HDMI, and instead of "HDTV Settings" in the Display settings, I have "Screen Resolution" with a bunch of PC-style resolution options (such as 1920x1080 instead of "1080p"). I assume it's seeing my HDTV as a computer monitor now, which may be related to the audio issue.

I'm most furious because of the hour I spent on the phone with the 1-800-4MY-XBOX drone in India, trying to get at some sort of level 2 tech support so I could explain the issue to someone who understands. I install and calibrate home theater systems for a living, yet I found myself arguing with her over the fact that an HDMI cable does not have an HDTV/Analog switch on it (like their component cable does).

In the end, she simply said "I am all there is" in response to me demanding point blank that I speak to someone at level two or in engineering after nearly an hour of jumping through their hoops. Incredible.

Seems like a whole new batch of HDMI handshaking problems. Anyone else having new issues after the update?

Yeah - I've got a ViewSonic VX2835wm and since the update I can no longer select any resolution apart from 480p when using the HDMI cable.

Hi!!! I downloaded the update on the 2nd and right after that my Xbox bricked... The infamous 3 Red Ring of Death... I am not the only one you can see everyone talking about in other forums (xbox.com)... I would like to know how many of you had the same problem and to send MS a message. They should know by now what they did and some answers should be given.

Whenever I started the 360 with my HDMI, it wouldn't start the audio until after 3 seconds. I was hoping the update would fix that. It didn't.

Awesome...
I don't have this problem (even though I use HDMI)
But....they force me to install this update to fix the problem anyway....
and now my audio cuts out all the time....I have to powercycle TV to get audio back (or 360, but easier to powercycle TV)
My BluRay player..er I mean my PS3 doesn't do it
thanks Microsoft, you suck.

I got my television from an outlet store my girlfriend works at called Big Lots a 32 inch LCD Phillips for 400.00 and bought my 360 off a kid I worked with for 100.00 who had bought the 360 on launch day but decided to upgrade to an Elite and that broke before the one he sold me I also have a home theatre system from walmart, anyway theres just the problem with the way you guys are hooking your stuff up it has nothing to do with brands or updates just read the instructions its easy enough thats why they come with the product. I have had not one problem with audio, video, nor gameplay this is why I choose not to waste money on overpriced t.v.'s, fancy cables, or any speaker system more than 200.00 dollars which really dont even make that big of a difference they only sell them because they know youll fall for it.
