Listen up, fans of slow elevators and shooting everyone in sight. EA's recent financial earnings call divulged information indicating the publisher is readying sequels to BioWare's sci-fi RPG, Mass Effect, and DICE's multiplayer-driven FPS, Battlefield: Bad Company. There isn't that much else to report, other than EA CEO John Riccitiello saying that Mass Effect 2 would be available on "multiple platforms" and Bad Company would be "back on consoles" in Q4 of fiscal year 2010, which translates into normal people speak as sometime between January and March 2010.
We'll try to corner more information on these two titles and update as soon as we can.
Update: First screen of Bad Company 2 released.

I'm not shocked that the rumored 'Battlefield' announcement was not 'Battlefield 3'.
It appears EA just doesn't want to invest the time in creating a strictly PC game right now-- Despite the fact that BF3 would, presumably, consist of only online play which would deter piracy.
--If the game were to be good, that is.

Wouldn't matter if the game was good - PC gamers would buy it in frickin' droves since Battlefield 2 was GOD (when the netcode wasn't complete crap and J10s weren't overpowered God-Kings of the sky, sea, and earth).
But yeah, I had gotten ahold of a legit copy of BF2 and I remember I wanted to get the expansion packs, so I downloaded them and they weren't worth shit since the CD keys were tied to accounts. BF is traditionally a MP-only game and that makes it impossible to pirate for anything more than LAN play (and although it's superior to online play - how many people LAN anymore, seriously?)
But then again.... if they just bothered to update BF2 to support widescreen, fix the netcode bugs, and balanced the game properly then we wouldn't need BF3 - who gives a shit about the Frostbite engine, really....

I hope it's not PS3, atleast not straight away. I'm tired of the PS3 delaying every game.

I'm so glad they're keeping the Battlefield:Bad Company IP going. I really enjoyed that game.

I have a feeling the ps3 version will have mass effect 1 as a bonus...
Making up for the obvious advantage the xbox players would have

Peter, fuck you and people like you for why gaming costs so much.
"I'd pay $120 for both! $60 for a port of a game that's $20 on the other two platforms? What a bargain!"
"Really, Peter? Quick, jack the price up to $150, see if other fucktards will pay extra just because we tell them to!"
"Thank you Mister Gaming Executive! Can I pay for the DLC, too, so that I get the complete original raping experience?!"

Yes, Microsoft still owns the first Mass Effect, it can't go anywhere. Like I said before, considering the developers heavily recommended that you play the original game first AND keep your save file, it would be very odd for them to just release the sequel on the PS3.
But I wouldn't put it past EA, they're not going to care if people don't understand the game, as long as they buy it.

It's about damn time they announced ME 2! "Multiple platforms" is interesting. I'm wondering who owns the IP for that game as it was initially produced by Microsoft. If they have any say I don't see them allowing it to go to PS3.

I believe the console IP rights belong to MS but the PC IP rights are EA's.

I just can't imagine many PS3 players bothering to buy this (given that the story was the defining feature of the original, and they don't know it), and since BioWare could barely code a PC port a number of months later, I can't see them pulling off all 3 platforms without some severe hitches.

I don't know why everyone is so shocked about this and saying things like "will PS3 owners even buy this?". I have a PS3 and 360, but after going through three of them, I refuse to buy any games for it unless its a last resort (Fable 2, Gears 2). So I played Mass Effect for 360 (still have it) and I will most certainly be picking this up for PS3 because of the reliability factor.

Battlefield Bad Company was probably my favorite FPS of 2008. It kind of got lost in the shuffle with all of the other great shooter titles but it was and still is a fantastic game. It's still my go to shooter for online multiplayer.
I played and completed Mass Effect when I still had my 360 so I do hope that part 2 is released on the PS3 as well at launch. Maybe they can release part 1 for the PS3 sometime this year before part 2 is due to come out.
