EA's Q3 financial report shows big sales for Rock Band, FIFA 09
EA has released its financial report for Q3 2008. Even though the company is currently The report claims that Rock Band was "the number one title across all platforms in North America for calendar 2008." The key phrase there is "across all platforms" -- meaning "among games released on all three console platforms." It didn't make NPD's top 10 best-selling games.
EA's best-selling title of 2008 overall was FIFA 09, which sold 7.8 million copies in 2008. This estimate puts FIFA above three of the games on the combined Enterbrain/NPD/Chart-Track sales list.

Great numbers for Rock Band. Especially since it doesn't even count the 35 million DLC tracks that MTV/Harmonix sold. EA never sees that money.
Haggard @ Feb 3rd 2009 5:59PM
Do they not get any share at all of the DLC sales?
I'm sure in the legal jargon describing each track on the PSN store it mentiones EA several times.
Robert Maynard @ Feb 4th 2009 5:33AM
Really? That could explain why they're so half-assed about keeping the PSN store up to date outside America. *grumble*
Or is that Sony's fault? Or Harmonix? Who's caught with the potato at this particular moment? -_-

FIFA 09 is the best Football/Soccer game out right now. I got a copy for my 360 and PS3.

First football game I ever bought, and it is a blast. Still can't play defense for shit (the player switching for me is a bit weird) but still enjoy it even if I get my ass kicked online by 12 year olds.
greg19735 @ Feb 5th 2009 9:46PM
you can change the auto-switching, i know thats one of the first things i do when i play at a friend's house.
Nothing worse than running with one player towards the bottom of the screen, the opponent passes and the game switches your player, then you make the new player run down also. so frustrating! haha

They deserve every penny for FIFA. They truly made an amazing football game.

I'm still confused. How the hell was Rock Band the best selling game if Guitar Hero World Tour outsold it 2 to 1. And didn't sell as well as FIFA, according to this same article...
What am I missing :P
jkanownik @ Feb 3rd 2009 6:35PM
Rock Band 1 sales are not included in the numbers you're quoting.
Haggard @ Feb 3rd 2009 6:50PM
Also remember that it was 2008 when Rock Band (as well as RB2 on the 360) finally hit Europe (and before GHWT too, which wasn't really hyped here).
Haggard @ Feb 3rd 2009 6:51PM
Wait, the quote about Rock Band says North America.
I gone did a reading fail.
Vol @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:15PM
A great year, but they lay people off "because it is bad"..
F*** EA.
Haggard @ Feb 4th 2009 2:58AM
They lost hundreds of millions of dollars. A great year for quality software, but not enough people bought it besides Rock Band to matter.
