Couldn't you already just copy the URL from the address bar? Or is it different?

Apparently, copy and paste from the address bar is too difficult for your average X3F -- excuse me, Joystiq Xbox -- blogger.

Because yes, to answer your question, you could do exactly that. Worked just fine.

The only thing new here is that the "Send a link" tab also appears in the lists, so you can get a link to an item without having to click on that item and bring up that page.

Save one click? Well, no, because you do have to click the "Send a link" tab. It just makes it more clear to people who might get confused by concepts like "copy" and "paste" and "Address Bar"...

What has happened to the xbox live arcade Hits program? Did they do away with that program during the relaunch?

Sorry about the last post, my password manager saved a comment I made on an old thread.

QUESTION:
Is it possible to search for FREE content on XBL thru the web interface?

My only problem with all this is that I use multiple 360s in my house, but one hard drive that I just move from console to console. If I log on to one of them in particular, it won't download because MS has tied this to content to an exact console. I wonder if there's a way that I can register both consoles with my gamertag and that could somehow work?

Major Nelson brought this up on a recent podcast (in the Xbox 101 segment). You have one "home console". When you queue up a download on the marketplace, and you sign in on your 360, one of two things will happen: (1) If you're on your home console, everything starts. (2) If you're on another console, if you go to "Active Downloads", you'll see everything listed in some status that means it's waiting to download on another console (I forget the exact message).

If you want to download the content on that second console, you can select that item and say "Download Now". You are then prompted if you want to download *all* content to the second console. If you say "yes", that console becomes your "home console" and all queued content now and from that time forward will download to that one. If you say "no", then only the selected item gets downloaded to the console you're sitting on at the moment.

Either way, with your gamertag, you can download the same content to both consoles (via Marketplace on the console and *probably* through the web as well) and use it on either console, as long as you're signed in to Xbox Live with that gamertag, because that gamertag purchased it.

Does that help?

Now all we need are previews for the themes and gamerpics.

if only they'd use mod_rewrite or the equiv for iis. those urls are u-g-l-y and way too long.

marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/springsteen would be much nicer.

Nicer looking, but then they'd have to make sure they came up with a unique URL for each bit of content, and there'd be different spellings for different regions and crap...

A base URL and a GUID is probably a lot easier to maintain, and we want things that are easy to maintain, because it means less likely to break and we don't have to wait long for them to fix when it does.

Want something shorter? Use a tinyurl. Welcome to 2002. ;)

Huh, you mean if *Microsoft* used a tinyurl-type of system?
