New Indy's 'Fate of Atlantis' bonus is Wii-only
We've updated our post from earlier this afternoon but thought a fresh post might ensure you'd spot it (see? It worked!). We've just heard back from a publicist at LucasArts who told us that, while the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings will indeed feature LucasArts' seminal adventure gaming classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, that bonus "will be on the Wii version only." That leaves PS2, PSP and DS gamers all reaching for the same thing: ScummVM.

I've never played the bonus game. The question is: Is breaking my elbow from fake-whipping going to be worth it?
Xta Large (Formerly Fatass) @ Feb 3rd 2009 9:22PM
Ya never know. Something like this has potential - imagine using the whip to pull environment pieces towards an enemy and such, I can imagine that using the Wii Remote would add to that
though I doubt that kinda gameplay is gonna happen

hmm, I eat my words.
I hope that's not a Wii screenie, though.
mr nimblewick @ Feb 3rd 2009 9:37PM
I love that screenshot because the German is all "I'm going to shoot you with this gun I have drawn and pointed at you," and Dr. Jones is all "Hold on! I'm going to whip this box and pull it down on your head! Then I'm going to climb into this fridge just off camera..."
I hope there are more ways to interact with the environment than just whipping.

"I hope there are more ways to interact with the environment than just whipping."
Ya never know, they could do a LOT with just that.
Ridgecity @ Feb 4th 2009 5:07AM
yes. The game can easily rival one of the original movie. It was going to be IV at some point, but Lucas decided to hold it and probably forgot about it.
Ridgecity @ Feb 4th 2009 5:10AM
actually they decided to make the game since Ford & Connery had gone to do other things.
Andy @ Feb 3rd 2009 9:33PM
All I know is that Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is an awesome game. It's from the era when LucasArts was known for their high-quality adventure games. I've been wanting to reply that for some time now, and this is (probably, hopefully) a good way to do it. Let's just hope that the new Indy game is worth the price of admission.
KeenCommander @ Feb 3rd 2009 9:40PM
The Wii is probably the best way to play (on consoles, obviously) Fate of Atlantis...but that's no reason to make it exclusive. People are more than capable of playing adventure games with a joystick. And it's not like it's exactly hard to include it.
obo @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:29PM
The Wii's better for adventure games than the DS?
KeenCommander @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:42PM
Absolutely. Too tiny a screen, that's the only reason I haven't tried the DS version of ScummVM.
zuburi @ Feb 3rd 2009 9:50PM
The last post tagged ScummVM is from December 3rd, 2006?! I demand more ScummVM related news!
Christopher Grant @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:23PM
I agree! :-D
Strategy_Panda (Pot & Spoon 4 Life) @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:40PM
its kind of hard to post new SCUMM news as those games stopped being produced over ten years ago
and if you didn't know... http://www.scummvm.org/
blindfromthesun @ Feb 3rd 2009 9:58PM
I hope the screen shots are not from the Wii-version... There is no reason/excuse for Wii games visually looking less than on-par with the original Xbox. Judging from the pics, Chain of Olympus on the PSP looks much better.
Hardy @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:05PM
Any smart game would know that still images never do a game justice.
Videos are a much better way to tell how a game looks.
Xta Large (Formerly Fatass) @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:12PM
When an image looks THAT bad you can tell it won't look much better in motion
blindfromthesun @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:17PM
I agree with Xta Large. You can't make a horrible looking game look good in motion. The screen shots better be pre-alpha alpha or else there is no hope for this game.
bm @ Feb 4th 2009 2:44AM
Ugh, surely they're not just going to straight port the PSP version like that without any sort of polycount and texture upgrade, though? Surely?
CitizenSnips @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:25PM
Fate of Atlantis was AWESOME. i have absolutely no interest in the staff of kings game, but Fate of Atlantis might be a good enough reason to buy it.
Aldyn @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:30PM
i shouldn't use this as a judging reference, but...
after just finishing uncharted and seeing the screenshots of uncharted two, i can't even look at these without laughing. and i don't want to—because i love this game.
Ridgecity @ Feb 4th 2009 5:03AM
You should play it again since the Indiana Jones game for the PS3 is cancelled until further notice.
Alien Lord @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:44PM
I'm not usually into these kinda of games but maybe if it turns out well I'll grab it (for Wii instead of DS cause they only offer this bonus content on the Wii).
Poisoned Al @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:12PM
Even though I own a Wii, that's pretty lame.
Courtney @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:28PM
In the words of my local basketball fans:
Buuuuullllllsh***********t!
Victor Agreda Jr @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:37PM
Personally, I'm glad a Wii game can lord SOMETHING over other versions. Every time I see the songs available for Rock Band on every other system, I cry a little.
Hardy @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:49PM
Blame Nintendo and their anal retentive and shitty online system for a lack of downloadable content.
Oh and the foresight not to leave it open to install at the very least a USB hard drive for the Wii.
bVork @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:54PM
I bet they'd make a lot of money if SCUMM games were available on VC or WiiWare.
sawyerinatree @ Feb 4th 2009 12:22AM
wonderful idea.
then maybe people won't look at me weird when i say "ask me about LOOM."
edgore @ Feb 4th 2009 12:55AM
I will still look at you weird, but only because I was thinking the same thing.
Soooo...this means that Lucasarts has an official SCUMM port to the the Wii. Please, please, please tell me this will be followed by every other SCUMM game ever made (except for Full Throttle...Love ya Tim, but, really?) coming out for the Wii.
Ridgecity @ Feb 4th 2009 5:05AM
Probably this is for testing the waters. If the game sells a ton maybe Scumm will come back!
Bobulous @ Feb 4th 2009 9:21AM
Absolutely. I said the same thing a while ago myself. There are loads of great Scumm games that could be ported to the Wii, like The Last Crusade, The Dig, Loom, Zak McCrakken, Day of the Tentacle, Secret of Monkey Island, Full Throttle...
It'd be relatively easy to port the best PC, Mac or Amiga versions over onto the VC. Lucasarts would make a mint and we'd have some great point and click games that are appealing to hardcore and retro gamers and casual enough for newbies. Everybody wins. Then Activision could do the same with the old Sierra titles.
I REALLY hope this is a sign that Lucasarts are planning something like this, instead of wringing every last drop of greatness from the Star Wars license.
Rogue5 @ Feb 26th 2009 9:43PM
Never played the atlantis game, but i heard it was a very good game. I just hope the staff of kings is at least decent.
meatee @ Feb 4th 2009 1:36AM
I'd say LucasArts didn't want to put a lot of resources into porting Atlantis, so they chose to go with only one console. They chose the Wii since the wiimote is better suited to point-and-click than an analog stick controller, plus the Wii is 'all the rage' with the entire human race apparently.
intro94 @ Feb 4th 2009 1:43AM
lucas arts doesnt usually delivers quality nor treats wii with respect, so those graphics are just what i would expect from them.
phinnvr6 @ Feb 4th 2009 1:52AM
Those screenshots have to be Nintendo DS, there is no way it would look that bad on Wii
Lee @ Feb 4th 2009 7:45AM
This disease seems to be catching, this future disease or whatever it has been coined. I WISH to high heaven my DS could produce visuals like that. Is your DS from the future too like that other person here?
sam @ Feb 4th 2009 8:41AM
I take your hyperbole (are these better than PSP, probably not, are they better than DS, infinitely yes) and raise you - um, they're probably Wii (and blotchiness/shitty resolution/whatever aside, they aren't that bad), but it is a bit odd that the aspect ratio is 4:3. Who makes Wii screens 4:3?
Yay for bonus game anyhow - if the *real* game gets decent review this will definitely encourage me to get it. As for the other SCUMM games coming out on Wii, I imagine they might use them as bonus games on other titles?
Lee @ Feb 4th 2009 7:44AM
Guess I was right.
AwesomeTown @ Feb 4th 2009 7:45AM
Ok, it's official. The Wii is the best console this generation. The End.
(In case you didn't know, I freaking love Fate of Atlantis)
t_m @ Feb 5th 2009 6:26AM
I know people have been saying it for years, but why exactly AREN'T all the lucasarts adventure games on the Wii and DS already?
Lucasarts needs to get over ther phobia of money...
