We've updated our post from earlier this afternoon but thought a fresh post might ensure you'd spot it (see? It worked!). We've just heard back from a publicist at LucasArts who told us that, while the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings will indeed feature LucasArts' seminal adventure gaming classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, that bonus "will be on the Wii version only." That leaves PS2, PSP and DS gamers all reaching for the same thing: ScummVM.New Indy's 'Fate of Atlantis' bonus is Wii-only

I've never played the bonus game. The question is: Is breaking my elbow from fake-whipping going to be worth it?

Ya never know. Something like this has potential - imagine using the whip to pull environment pieces towards an enemy and such, I can imagine that using the Wii Remote would add to that
though I doubt that kinda gameplay is gonna happen

hmm, I eat my words.
I hope that's not a Wii screenie, though.

I love that screenshot because the German is all "I'm going to shoot you with this gun I have drawn and pointed at you," and Dr. Jones is all "Hold on! I'm going to whip this box and pull it down on your head! Then I'm going to climb into this fridge just off camera..."
I hope there are more ways to interact with the environment than just whipping.

Ya never know, they could do a LOT with just that.

All I know is that Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is an awesome game. It's from the era when LucasArts was known for their high-quality adventure games. I've been wanting to reply that for some time now, and this is (probably, hopefully) a good way to do it. Let's just hope that the new Indy game is worth the price of admission.

The Wii is probably the best way to play (on consoles, obviously) Fate of Atlantis...but that's no reason to make it exclusive. People are more than capable of playing adventure games with a joystick. And it's not like it's exactly hard to include it.

The Wii's better for adventure games than the DS?

Absolutely. Too tiny a screen, that's the only reason I haven't tried the DS version of ScummVM.

its kind of hard to post new SCUMM news as those games stopped being produced over ten years ago

I hope the screen shots are not from the Wii-version... There is no reason/excuse for Wii games visually looking less than on-par with the original Xbox. Judging from the pics, Chain of Olympus on the PSP looks much better.

When an image looks THAT bad you can tell it won't look much better in motion

I agree with Xta Large. You can't make a horrible looking game look good in motion. The screen shots better be pre-alpha alpha or else there is no hope for this game.

Fate of Atlantis was AWESOME. i have absolutely no interest in the staff of kings game, but Fate of Atlantis might be a good enough reason to buy it.

i shouldn't use this as a judging reference, but...
after just finishing uncharted and seeing the screenshots of uncharted two, i can't even look at these without laughing. and i don't want to—because i love this game.

I'm not usually into these kinda of games but maybe if it turns out well I'll grab it (for Wii instead of DS cause they only offer this bonus content on the Wii).

I bet they'd make a lot of money if SCUMM games were available on VC or WiiWare.

I will still look at you weird, but only because I was thinking the same thing.
Soooo...this means that Lucasarts has an official SCUMM port to the the Wii. Please, please, please tell me this will be followed by every other SCUMM game ever made (except for Full Throttle...Love ya Tim, but, really?) coming out for the Wii.

Absolutely. I said the same thing a while ago myself. There are loads of great Scumm games that could be ported to the Wii, like The Last Crusade, The Dig, Loom, Zak McCrakken, Day of the Tentacle, Secret of Monkey Island, Full Throttle...
It'd be relatively easy to port the best PC, Mac or Amiga versions over onto the VC. Lucasarts would make a mint and we'd have some great point and click games that are appealing to hardcore and retro gamers and casual enough for newbies. Everybody wins. Then Activision could do the same with the old Sierra titles.
I REALLY hope this is a sign that Lucasarts are planning something like this, instead of wringing every last drop of greatness from the Star Wars license.

I'd say LucasArts didn't want to put a lot of resources into porting Atlantis, so they chose to go with only one console. They chose the Wii since the wiimote is better suited to point-and-click than an analog stick controller, plus the Wii is 'all the rage' with the entire human race apparently.

lucas arts doesnt usually delivers quality nor treats wii with respect, so those graphics are just what i would expect from them.

This disease seems to be catching, this future disease or whatever it has been coined. I WISH to high heaven my DS could produce visuals like that. Is your DS from the future too like that other person here?

I take your hyperbole (are these better than PSP, probably not, are they better than DS, infinitely yes) and raise you - um, they're probably Wii (and blotchiness/shitty resolution/whatever aside, they aren't that bad), but it is a bit odd that the aspect ratio is 4:3. Who makes Wii screens 4:3?
Yay for bonus game anyhow - if the *real* game gets decent review this will definitely encourage me to get it. As for the other SCUMM games coming out on Wii, I imagine they might use them as bonus games on other titles?

Ok, it's official. The Wii is the best console this generation. The End.
