'The sad truth is that PC gamers have done this to themselves. It's more important to pirate games for free than pay for them. I'm sure you guys are really teaching them a lesson.'

No, the pirating cheap-ass self-righteous snipes have done it too us. Don't tar all PC gamers with the same brush.

PC gaming, in terms of sales, is still pretty strong. Strong enough to rival the sales of console gaming in fact

This is a real shame. I really liked this game and would have loved to see where it goes.

Hopefully, they will change their minds and release it later in the year or perhaps even modders can add it to the game. I admit I used to pirate PC games years ago but now that I actually have a job, I am doing my part to keep the PC gaming industry afloat. Yes, console gamers far outweight PC gamers and so does their spending power. : (

Money talks. I still don't understand why you didn't just pay to get that damn PS3 fixed.

I sold it a long ago at a loss of course, its old history now. I was stupid, it was a very bad decision for me to make but oh well. I guess I was so pissed off I paid a lot for a 60gb model and then to pay again for repairs after working for only two weeks when the Blu-Ray drive messed up so I just sold it.....

I don't even believe in this whole piracy ordeal either. It would cost them nothing, absolutely nothing, to release this on PC as the content itself is created on... *drumroll* a PC! Sure, there's going to be people out there who pirate the extra content, but they're not even giving any thought to those who would legitimately purchase what they have to offer. Also, unlike the 360 and PS3, the content is natively developed on the PC and doesn't have to go through strict error-checking (Microsoft) or a conversion for, from a developer's point of view, inconvenient to develop for hardware (PS3's Cell processor). It's all right there, waiting for them to release it.

Great job Ubi, keep up the poor decision making!

I thought the same thing. Its basically free money that they are passing up. To me, this decision makes no sense at all

I may be being horribly naive on the subject but how would they lose money with downloadable DLC? It's not like they're paying for production, shipping, etc. It's completely digital.

And if it is to do with piracy, then even if it is pirated to hell someone will still have to buy it first, so it'd make more money than not releasing at all. I mean, it wouldn't detract from the console sales, since those people have already finished it on their consoles and would need to get the PC version first anyway. Right? No? Am I missing something?

Anybody else think it's sad as hell that we actually have to pay for the endings to our games now?

Think about it... if there wasn't DLC then they would just give you the endings for free.

Now people are getting screwed out of even being able to buy endings! PoP for PC, Fallout 3 for PS3... what's next?

Personally, I couldn't care less. I'm really not a fan of this DLC trend - where developers realize they can make a few extra bucks from a game, so they throw together some extra crap and, if you don't buy it, you're not getting the "whole" experience.

If it's important enough that the developers feel the need to add it in later, then they should just include it in the sequel.

Baby J Penn,

He probably didn't get his PS3 fixed for the same reason my Xbox 360 would've gone to a recycling center had it still not been covered under the three year RROD warranty; once a console's warranty expires, it costs a relatively large sum of money to fix. For instance, if your Xbox 360's DVD-ROM were to quit working, Microsoft would want $150 to replace it (something which, in all honestly, probably tops out around $20 to make); Sony demands a similar amount of money should the PS3's BD-ROM die after it's year warranty expires. Personally, if I pay $300-$500 for a console, I expect the thing to last for more than a few months or a year. Instead of paying those outrageous repair fees or buying a replacement unit, I wish people would actually start demanding quality assurance; if my XBOX has gone on for over 5 years straight without an issue, my 360 shouldn't have given up the blue genie just 9 months after purchase.

I know every one hops on the "PC gaming is too expensive!" train on this site, but at least we get individual warranties for our hardware. My Intel E8400 was covered by a 3 year warranty (which I invalidated by overclocking, but meh), my P5Q Deluxe has a 3 year warranty, my Seagate HDD is covered by a 5 year warranty (upcoming HDDs are covered by a 3 year warranty), my PSU has a 5 year warranty, my Diamond HD 4870 XOC has a one year warranty (XFX has limited lifetime, however), my Patriot VIper DDR2 1150 has a lifetime warranty, and my Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 has a one year warranty. Sure beats the hell out of the Xbox 360's 90 day warranty (barring the 3 year RROD warranty) or Sony's year long warranty, doesn't it?

Chinpo,

Did you ever get Crysis running well? Like I said, if you haven't patched the game or upgraded to the latest Forceware, you really should (as the latest Forceware release also happens to be the one with official Geforce GTX 285/295 support); hopefully you're also running Vista X64 and not Vista X86 (32 bit). If you're finding the DX10 performance drop unacceptable, you can force the game to run on the DX9 render path by adding -dx9 to the shortcut. If you still want Very High settings, people in your position (who have great hardware but hate the DX10 performance penalty) have released configs that do nothing other than force Very High in DX9 (there's no compromise, it's quite literally Crysis's Very High CVAR commands). You can do the same to Warhead, or any game that can use the DX10 render path. Having said that, DX10 (in Crysis at least) does handle motion blur a bit differently than in DX9, so you won't able to get the full effect.

Exactly Jackal why I didn't get my PS3 fixed, you were right on the nose. Its ridiculous for Sony to charge $150 to repair the Blu-Ray drive outside the warranty when it is their own build quality design fault, they need to fix it for free just as now MS is doing so for the RROD. At least with my PC, I build it myself and will know what is wrong and fix it myself instead of sending it to Sony/MS for repair. Forget consoles for now, I've returned back to PC gaming after many years and am happy.

Thanks for following up my situation Jackal, I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 right now with only 2gb of DDR3 ram, I will upgrade that to at least 4gb soon. That's probably at least one reason for the less than should be performance as Crysis and Vista are memory hogs.

When I run it at DX9 mode, the framerate is fine, there is a noticeable drop in DX10 mode, which I am surprised at. This is the first time I've played it in DX10 mode and I can't go back to DX9, the motion blur effects at least add a lot to the game, from reloading your weapon to seeing walls fall apart when you punch them, etc. The game looks noticeably better with the motion blur effects.

I hope that the DX9 hacks you and others have mentioned can make it look as good as the DX10 version, the main difference I notice between the two are the added blur effects.

I've just used the drivers that came with the GTX 285 disc. I will upgrade to the latest Forceware drivers as you suggested.

Thanks again Jackal, you kick ass.

chinpo,

I'm not going to sugar coat it for ya; you can't enable object motion blur in DX9 without having graphical glitches (especially when it comes to nanosuited enemies or the aliens). No matter what config or hack you use, there are going to be issues if r_motionblur is set to 3 or 5+. Having said that, the motion glitches with the aliens is quite tolerable at r_motionblur = 6, but nothing seems to make the nanosuited KPA look decent. r_motionblur = 4 is the best you can actually do in DX9 without the glitches.

Personally, I'd use the DX10 render path, set r_motionblur = 5, use a quality config, and then lower your resolution down to around 1600x1200 (it's 90,000 pixels less than 1920x1080, but every little bit helps..ya know?). Install Xconfig and its included TOD. Now, you can either modify Xconfig's autoexec to your liking (it's locating in game/config) or replace it with a new one which can just be left in Crysis's main folder. I know the DX10 performance penalty is steep, but that doesn't mean we can't try getting playable performance out of it without a noticeable dip in overall image quality.

I've set up an email address just for use when it comes to this site: joystiqer77@gmail.com. Email me at that address, and I'll send you the customized CCC 2.21 config and UltimaRage Level 4 config (Warhead only) I use. Again, they're not mine, but I've tweaked some variables up; your system, given it's prowess over mine, shouldn't have all that much trouble handling either of them. You'll get your motion blur and visual quality without the performance hit.
