Rumor: Turok 2 shelved, Disney Interactive lays off over 200

Turok 2 was set to continue the story of the recently revamped series, which debuted on the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC in 2008. One source told Joystiq that Propaganda was working hard to produce a quality title, with hopes of bringing some familiar weaponry to fans of the original series, including the infamous Cerebral Bore from Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. While Turok 2 may return to development, sources say, "A lot of the core people are no longer there," meaning a future Turok would likely be significantly different from the team's original vision.
It was also indicated that Propaganda Games may be the studio behind the recently rumored Tron title.
The layoffs were reportedly first announced internally via a conference call by Steve Wadsworth, president of the Disney Interactive Media Group on Wednesday, January 28, hours before the news broke online. After the call it was revealed that 204 employees throughout the Disney Interactive Media Group had been laid off. The groups hit include Disney Online (DOL) Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online (WDPRO), Mobile Japan. At least 75 employees have been shed from Propaganda Games and the now defunct Fall Line Studios.
Alleged Turok 2 concept art can be viewed in the gallery below. Know anything more? You know where to find us.

Wow...the first revamped Turok on the 360 was really good, despite its flaws I had lots of fun playing that game. It really sounded like they were serious about the sequel too, which makes this news all the more depressing
The Dark Wayne @ Feb 3rd 2009 6:55PM
i didnt care for it, I didnt like the aiming, the guns, the excessive shakiness of the screen and all that. But it is too bad there wont be a sequel. It felt like they were really getting at something, maybe
Marty @ Feb 3rd 2009 6:47PM
If it will prevent another Turok game from being published, then those are acceptable losses.
HyperNexus @ Feb 3rd 2009 6:48PM
Hmm, I haven't played a Turok game since Seeds of Evil. I was originally intrigued by the revamp, but skipped it due to hearing that it wasn't very good. In light of that, I have to wonder how good the sequel would have been (or will be, depending).
On the other hand, if they were going to reintroduce the Cerebral Bore, it can't be all bad. My friends and I could never get enough of that gun back in the day (though considering I was still fairly young back when that came out, that may not be a good thing =P).

It's OVER TWO HUNDRED!!!!!!!

fail

It's a shame, because I thought the last Turok game wasn't all that bad. They just needed less space marines and more dinosaurs. Judging by this concept art it looks like they had the same thing in mind.
(I already said this in the gallery but meant to post it here.)

Its unfortunate to lose your job.....but the recent Turok game was striaght rubbish. Myself being a huge Turok fan couldn't bring myself to buying that game...and I was totally hyped for that game when it was announced. No "Tech Bow" (sniper capabilities enabled)....from what I have seen. In these days, it pays to make a game good the first time around.
Alien Lord @ Feb 3rd 2009 7:03PM
Too bad, I'd have been willing to play this.
Levi @ Feb 3rd 2009 7:16PM
Wait a sec, you'd be willing to give Turok 2 a chance, but not Killzone 2? I can say, without a doubt, that Killzone was better than the current gen Turok...
I wasn't a big fan of Killzone, and I loved the original Turok, but the current gen Turok blows dude. It's just testament to your Sony hating fanboyism.
Heh @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:16PM
Levi - You calling Alien Lord a sony hater is like me calling the sky blue..
Levi @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:28PM
XD
Yeah... I just can't help but call out hypocricy.. Did I even spell that right?
Alien Lord @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:36PM
Turok was actually fun and doesn't bare the tainted mark of Sony, now I never played the first so in comparison I can't say how good it is. As a side note I didn't buy it until it was down to $30. As another side note Killzone looks too much like you Yankees killing Reds.
Strategy_Panda (Pot & Spoon 4 Life) @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:47PM
you do realize that the latest Turok came out on the PS3 right?
Levi @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:12PM
Yeah, Turok was a multiplatform title, it "bears the Sony mark" just as much as it does 360
Alien Lord @ Feb 4th 2009 12:16AM
The sony taint is only on games that are either PS3 exclusives (PS1 &2 games are just crappy) or the PS3 versions of multi-platform.
Jonathan @ Feb 3rd 2009 7:03PM
Turok is in my backlog but I did have a lot of fun with it's demo. I still plan on picking it up, and the fact that the sequel is canceled sucks. The future looks a lot less exciting than the crowded past, and this would have been something to look forward to.
Dr. @ Feb 3rd 2009 7:03PM
I, AM TUROK.
Neuromancer @ Feb 3rd 2009 7:04PM
Do you guys remember how Turok was like $70 when it first came out on the N64? WTF?! Still worth it though, great game.
Levi @ Feb 3rd 2009 7:21PM
I loved the original Turok on N64, but the demo of the new one blew pretty hard. I don't know if there's much the can do to revive the series, since so much of what I liked about the original couldn't be translated over to current gen systems without looking cheesy or dated.
Foetoid @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:03PM
Easy solution, buy old PC copies of Turok and play them now. Heck i've got a legitimate PC disk of Turok 2!. The controls aren't quite right, they ported the game quickly from the N64 and the controls on the PC version don't feel right at all, but the game is still incredible.
Levi @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:35PM
Funny you say that, because the PC version of Turok 2 was the only way I could play it! Even with the Expansion Pak, I remember it having horrible game lag that made it unplayable for me. The strangest part is that nobody else noticed!! Maybe it's because plenty of people played 2 but not 1, so they couldn't compare them. Either way, once I got the PC version running smoothly, I enjoyed the hell out of it.
The original was a tough game though. I found all the keys with no help, and beat the game with no cheats or guides, but never found all the pieces of the Chronosceptor.
wonderweazel @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:00PM
I really liked the new Turok. The demo did suck, but the game is well worth the $15 I payed for it.
Zeus.:God @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:08PM
They should have continued with the damn story from Turok 3. That is easily my all time favorite game. It was just so damn perfect- the story line, the ambiance, the environment... Not only that but the game was pretty scary at that, at least, it was when I was younger.
HardBoiled2009 @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:13PM
I gotta say i am a HUGE Turok fan I own the first Two and i LOVED THEM ... but when i play the one on the Xbox i was like uh this is horrible !!! and then i played the one that came out last year .. it felt more like a Jurassic Park title then Turok title but then again i only played the demo .. i remember back in the old days you were like this indian like guy or something when you got a key piece to the game you gotta get at the end of each level you always seen the guy hold it up in the air ETC .. it was good .. but after the 2nd one which was basicly stuck to the same genre ... they killed it for me
TwEE @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:22PM
Yeah they replaced Turok the Dinosaur hunter, the dude in the link below....
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/CD/vh1/Turok/turok01.jpg
with one of the dudes from Gears of War.
TwEE @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:16PM
Man Im pretty sure I've played through all the Turok games, and I have to say the newest Turok (whatever its called) was the worst.
Its got that typical generic HD look and gameplay, like something Mark Rein would jerk off to.
Im sure Turok will live on, and Im glad that the sequel is in the shitter.
Too bad about the lay offs though..C'est la vie.
The Dark Wayne @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:06PM
yeah, another classic example of UE3 laziness
bm @ Feb 4th 2009 2:48AM
I'm glad someone else agrees those UE3 games look and play fucking shitty. It's like I'm a big grey blob full of dangly bits all over it, shooting other big grey blobs full of dangly bits, on a background that after a while just looks like homogeneous grey static.
Strategy_Panda (Pot & Spoon 4 Life) @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:47PM
The Turok franchise has so much potential if handled correctly.
I'm imagining the Tresspasser concept mixed with the Turok universe... and multiplayer where people fight dinos in a L4D style, and where people fight in a dino infested area.
kilikafinal @ Feb 4th 2009 1:01AM
did it suprise anyone that disney was making a turok game?
