Watch Lara explore her basement in 'Beneath the Ashes'
The video offers up our first good look at the DLC, with principals on the project revealing that it contains puzzles even more ... puzzling than those in the retail game. It's also quite "creepy," "spooky" and "scary" -- as the viewer is told, oh, a dozen times or so. See for yourself ... unless you scare, spook or get creeped out easily.

I wish I had a basement... in my basement.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:39PM
Yo dawg I heard you like basements so we put a basement in your basement so you can put stuff away while you put stuff away.
Master Bruce @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:41PM
Doesn't everyone have a cavernous sub-basement?
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 4th 2009 12:40AM
Thats a different dimension altogether :D
Jonathan @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:14PM
I'm excited for the puzzles, but damn, Ray is annoying. They shouldn't let him do videos ever again.
futurebiblehero @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:19PM
Exclusive DLC is one of the worst new trends in gaming there is.
Ungamer @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:28PM
srsly.
I only own a 360 atm so this isn't affecting me but I'm sure there are plenty of PC/PS3 owners who own this game who wouldn't mind the DLC.
tmmoore_nc @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:32PM
Exclusive DLC is a real pain because they're basically calling people who bought the game on the other system stupid in my opinion. It's like 'thanks for giving us your money, idiot.'
flameofdoom666 @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:33PM
I disagree. It is the same general idea of exclusive games. Why would one buy GTA 4 on the PS3 and/or PC when the 360 gets the exclusive DLC? That logic means that Microsoft is going to pay big bucks for exclusive games AND DLC.
Wiizer @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:36PM
AND THEN, they release it six months later!
WTF is the point??? It really does end up hurting sales on the side left out of the DLC...
futurebiblehero @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:43PM
Responding to Flameofdoom, I see your point but how does that help anyone other than the company that bought the exclusivity? As stated, people won't buy the multi-platform game on the system without the DLC so that doesn't tremendously help the publisher any more than whatever fat check they receive in the mail.
Maybe I'm just missing the point because I'm no insider on these matters. However, I do know that whatever the deal is, consumers are generally on the losing end of it.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:52PM
No the authentic problem with DLC is that most of the time it isn’t stuff that expands the gameplay but instead concepts that they pull out of the original to make the DLC.
In other words they had the power to make the original better but they just saved it for the DLC. Yet I could be cynic.
While expansions are nice DLC seems to be intrusive. For example Crackdown had “Keys of the city” mode all this time but the developer’s just lock it and made it look like if it was DLC.
Another thing is that it seems that in order to make the DLC they make the original shorter like in Fable II I’m sure the game could have been longer and better but Lionhead decided to work in the DLC instead.
DLC isn’t a expansion more like a way to charge an extra 10$ sacrificing the quality of the main game or at least that’s the idea its giving me.
Questworld @ Feb 4th 2009 1:20AM
DLC sutff like this alone is the reason I'd rather wait. They might throw out a re-release like Burnout Paradise or those Metal Gear Solid games. Bug fixes too.
Robert Maynard @ Feb 4th 2009 1:46AM
I think teaser videos where most of it is just developers ramble with nervous excitement about what they've tried to do instead of showing what they've done is one of the worst new trends in gaming, but that's just me.
Chinpo (BRING BACK RUROUNI KENSHIN !!!) @ Feb 4th 2009 3:09AM
Hey MS, how about bring some more of the 360's exclusive DLC to the PC's Games for WIndows LIVE Marketplace, let's expand its offerings huh? : )
rTwelve @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:42PM
I'd love to watch Lara explore her "basement".
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 4th 2009 12:38AM
Wouldn't you rather explore her basement for her? Makes it all the more interesting for you, and you get the pleasure of seeing her happy when you make valid discoveries :D
JerJer @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:44PM
im not going to even get INTO the innuendo in that headline
Xta Large (Formerly Fatass) @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:58PM
I'd like to get in-HER-endo
hort hort
Dave @ Feb 4th 2009 12:34AM
@ JerJer
You just did.
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 3rd 2009 8:47PM
Didn't it already sell badly? I don't see how this is helping?
cxm @ Feb 3rd 2009 10:55PM
I'm sure this was in the works long before the poor sales numbers came out (making DLC takes a while, you know). Why WOULDN'T they release it if they'd already put effort into it.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 3rd 2009 11:11PM
"this guys!"
Buy Beneath the ashes, support multiple man!
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 4th 2009 12:19AM
That would mean people would actually have to purchase underworld first, eugh, I'd rather chew at my fingers ¬_¬
BigD145 @ Feb 4th 2009 12:25AM
This is just stupid. She's been doing this kind of thing for years and didn't notice her own basement? I would have expected her to find something when she was 10.
jorojoserojas @ Feb 4th 2009 2:02AM
I've had Tomb Raider Underworld since release day, and I haven't cracked it open yet. Guess I'll wait for this before I dig in.
KobeBryunt @ Feb 4th 2009 2:45AM
The game kinda sucks. I had high hopes too :(
Chinpo (BRING BACK RUROUNI KENSHIN !!!) @ Feb 4th 2009 3:11AM
"Guess I'll wait for this before I dig in."
Pun indended?
carg0 @ Feb 4th 2009 8:49AM
you couldn't pay me enough to even consider going back to that game. good luck trying to convince gamers they should, Eidos. you'll need it.
CJLopez @ Feb 4th 2009 11:31AM
But, i can recall a part of the game where she went to her basement and discovered another part of the puzzle and a recorded message that her dad left her
So, you are telling me there's another basement under that basement?
And it came out with the destruction of her house????
Man, exclusive DLC sucks, i only have the wii version of the game. 'll be looking forward to the videos on youtube though
andreasdahl @ Feb 5th 2009 7:37AM
Lara has a basement underneath her basement, that has several windows (as well as a huge hole in the ground above) from which sunlight comes in.
How did they not see this place, from, you know, the outside of the house?
