Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games' latest LEGO game, coming this summer for DS, is not built around any license. Well, other than the LEGO license. But there's no Batman or Star Wars or anything like that: this is pure LEGO.
LEGO Battles, developed by Hellbent Games, sounds like a kind of LEGO-based strategy game, in which players build and defend bases in the LEGO Castle, Pirates and Space Themes, using units mixed and matched from the sets. The press release promises "pirate swordsmen fighting side-by-side with wizards and aliens; dragons battling ninjas; and pirate ships launching broadsides against spacecraft and knights!" In addition to the single-player mode, local multiplayer battles will also be available.
And because we haven't said the word "LEGO" enough in this post: LEGO.

I had the first Lego starwars game for DS, and while I enjoyed it, it was absolutely riddled with (Lego) bugs. So hopefully them going ground up for the DS on this Lego game will help them avoid bugs/glitches, and will likely lead to better Lego graphics.
Lego.

This sounds cool. I just hope when they say "strategy" they mean turn-based not RTS or tower defense style.

Dragons vs Ninjas? Pirate Ships vs Spaceships? OK, I'm not getting my hopes up, because they are basically describing the best game ever, and sadly it probably won't be.

This sounds awesome. AWESOME. Never liked the idea of Lego batman/star wars stuff, I'll give them a look in now in preparation. That and buy some Lego. Although vikings aren't the same as pirates. I can't believe that I'm 24.

No matter what system they'd put this out on, the graphics will be blocky.
Thank you, I'm here all week!

Oh fun! The real question is, will it be fun enough to tear me away from Fieldrunners?

i have never been interested in the other LEGO games. Played the LEGO Indy demo and didnt like it at all. But this sounds like a lot of fun. Ditch the crappy licensing, focus on strategy-action, this could be a real winner. I could imagine a variety of play styles incorporated: RTS, tower defense, straight action etc... It would be really cool as others mentioned if you could actually, you know, build with the LEGOs. That being what the real things are all about.

Somebody should make a port of Blockland for consoles, that game was really fun, but too complicated.

Now that the LEGO Harry Potter isn't coming anymore I'm not really excited. My favorite LEGO games were the Star Wars ones and even the first glitchy one was great IMO!
Oh and I thought when the new Joystiq Nintendo was launched they would be doing as they said, "Way more..." posts then they used to do on DS Fanboy but all we have gotten is at most three posts per day. Hell some days we even get only two. They simply make the posts look like DS posts by adding the DS tag to Wii games which have a DS release in the works. WTF, this is why I only visits this site once a day now. And what happened to all the great features we used to have? If things don't change soon I'll be leaving and from the looks of the slowing comments section so will many others...
