LEGO Battles break out on DS this summer
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games' latest LEGO game, coming this summer for DS, is not built around any license. Well, other than the LEGO license. But there's no Batman or Star Wars or anything like that: this is pure LEGO.
LEGO Battles, developed by Hellbent Games, sounds like a kind of LEGO-based strategy game, in which players build and defend bases in the LEGO Castle, Pirates and Space Themes, using units mixed and matched from the sets. The press release promises "pirate swordsmen fighting side-by-side with wizards and aliens; dragons battling ninjas; and pirate ships launching broadsides against spacecraft and knights!" In addition to the single-player mode, local multiplayer battles will also be available.
And because we haven't said the word "LEGO" enough in this post: LEGO.

JXCgunrunna @ Feb 4th 2009 12:14PM
and with a LEGO paper bag, its all the same
Levi @ Feb 4th 2009 11:52AM
This is what the Lego bran name should put out for video games! Expand this idea and bring it to consoles! I'd buy it
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 4th 2009 11:56AM
I would like a Lego game like Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts (Awesome game BTW) in which I could contruct my own stuff. You are only playing lego themed adventrue games here.
I always wanted to create a full lego city and then destroyed it with a giant legodzilla.

lego rock band? i'm leaving...
Levi @ Feb 4th 2009 7:00PM
Those are all great ideas, as long as you.. Build things in them. I only played the demo for Indiana Jones, but you didn't build anything..
Markez (Rubberband Banjo till Death) @ Feb 4th 2009 11:57AM
I had the first Lego starwars game for DS, and while I enjoyed it, it was absolutely riddled with (Lego) bugs. So hopefully them going ground up for the DS on this Lego game will help them avoid bugs/glitches, and will likely lead to better Lego graphics.
Lego.
Snowblind @ Feb 4th 2009 12:01PM
Definitely sounds better than Lego Rockband, and it's about time they made use of some of these generic Lego sets, instead of focusing on the movie liscences. Only for the DS though?
Squatch181 @ Feb 4th 2009 12:06PM
This sounds cool. I just hope when they say "strategy" they mean turn-based not RTS or tower defense style.
AwesomeTown @ Feb 4th 2009 12:08PM
Dragons vs Ninjas? Pirate Ships vs Spaceships? OK, I'm not getting my hopes up, because they are basically describing the best game ever, and sadly it probably won't be.
Duke @ Feb 4th 2009 12:29PM
Yeah when I saw "dragons battling ninjas" I instantly thought this could be the best movie idea ever as well. Who would we even want to win that battle!?
AwesomeTown @ Feb 4th 2009 12:41PM
It doesn't even matter, the experience, itself, would blow my mind.
ScottG13 @ Feb 4th 2009 12:14PM
This could actually be pretty cool. It'll be good to break the formula. This could have some nice Desktop Tower Defense modes to it. Or even feel like Stronghold (PC) for Babiez.

don't give ubisoft ideas. please for the love of god, don't.
TGL @ Feb 4th 2009 12:15PM
This is going to be SWEET. I lurv me some LEGO StarWars/Batman and Indiana Jones, so I can only imagine how good this will be. Can't wait.
Ibinixer @ Feb 4th 2009 12:29PM
This sounds awesome. AWESOME. Never liked the idea of Lego batman/star wars stuff, I'll give them a look in now in preparation. That and buy some Lego. Although vikings aren't the same as pirates. I can't believe that I'm 24.
MowDownJoe @ Feb 4th 2009 12:34PM
No matter what system they'd put this out on, the graphics will be blocky.
Thank you, I'm here all week!
Ibinixer @ Feb 4th 2009 12:38PM
You're filth.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 4th 2009 12:38PM
Oh fun! The real question is, will it be fun enough to tear me away from Fieldrunners?
The ball is in your court Traveller's Tales...
Marty @ Feb 4th 2009 12:42PM
Man, I had that big pirate ship Lego set when I was a kid... and I loved that thing.
Gewurz Man got equipped with... XBox 360! @ Feb 4th 2009 6:46PM
That thing still costs $100! er, I mean, I always wanted one of those...
blue ocarina @ Feb 4th 2009 1:07PM
great concept, has me drooling already. now they just have to get it right.
343 Guilty Fart @ Feb 4th 2009 1:08PM
"pirate swordsmen fighting side-by-side with wizards and aliens; dragons battling ninjas; and pirate ships launching broadsides against spacecraft and knights!"
It's like the ultimate dream of a 10 year old come true!
imaginarythomas @ Feb 4th 2009 1:09PM
This was bound to happen eventually. As a lego enthusiast, I'm very excited for this.
Also: the plural of lego is lego. Thank you.
Aero @ Feb 4th 2009 1:13PM
Knights are top tier

But where are the ninjas? I know for a fact LEGO has/had a Ninja set so just gimme some Pirates VS. Ninjas action! :P
scratch @ Feb 4th 2009 2:16PM
i have never been interested in the other LEGO games. Played the LEGO Indy demo and didnt like it at all. But this sounds like a lot of fun. Ditch the crappy licensing, focus on strategy-action, this could be a real winner. I could imagine a variety of play styles incorporated: RTS, tower defense, straight action etc... It would be really cool as others mentioned if you could actually, you know, build with the LEGOs. That being what the real things are all about.
FrannieBaby @ Feb 4th 2009 2:27PM
Now I want to go play with my actual LEGOs.
captainking @ Feb 4th 2009 5:08PM
Somebody should make a port of Blockland for consoles, that game was really fun, but too complicated.
FifthE1ement @ Feb 4th 2009 8:46PM
Now that the LEGO Harry Potter isn't coming anymore I'm not really excited. My favorite LEGO games were the Star Wars ones and even the first glitchy one was great IMO!
Oh and I thought when the new Joystiq Nintendo was launched they would be doing as they said, "Way more..." posts then they used to do on DS Fanboy but all we have gotten is at most three posts per day. Hell some days we even get only two. They simply make the posts look like DS posts by adding the DS tag to Wii games which have a DS release in the works. WTF, this is why I only visits this site once a day now. And what happened to all the great features we used to have? If things don't change soon I'll be leaving and from the looks of the slowing comments section so will many others...
