My HDMI worked great UNTIL the update. Now it doesn't work at all. When I emailed Microsoft the idiots sent me a form letter that told me when I downloaded the new and exciting NXE this fall my problem would be solved. Idiots.

I hate the NXE.
To this day i still think the old, Mii-less version was better.

Hmmm...I guess this was why I didn't get prompted to perform a system update yesterday...

Strange, I d'led the update (didn't even need it, I use VGA)...then the GPU on my xbox just dies. The color on my screen goes all weird, i reboot the xbox and i get no video (i hear audio). I try switching to the basic cables w/ my TV, and all I get is grey fuzziness on my screen. Anyone else have this problem? I'm gonna have to send in my xbox now..

I had the same issue last year. It is when the GPU dies but you don't get the RRoD...I pushed MS and they sent me a new one for free under the RRoD warranty.

But After I got the download a few weeks ago, my latest 360 (number 3) stopped reading discs, very first reboot after the patch was installed. But this time MS was not helpful at all, so $106 and a month without an Xbox to get a new one...free of the mess.

This dashboard pooched my 360. It now freezes for a minute when I hit the guide button in game. And it inexplicabley loses my connection to my hard drive and my subsequently to my profile and boots me out of games all the time.

Thanks Microsoft!

According to Boris Schneider-Johne (www.dreisechzig.net), the early update was rolled out to members of the NXE preview program, but I didn't get it myself.

All users who were able to get into the NXE Preview Program got the update two weeks early ... that's at least what Kugelblitz (the German "Major Nelson") wrote on his blog.

Sounds like i'm one of the lucky few it didn't brick. I would have been steamed if it had. I love my xbox but wtf can't they come out with some solid hardware, like the original.

I applied the update to my xbox, and so far no problems. Let's hope it stays that way.

To the people that are working fine since the update:

Are you using HDMI for your output?

Nope. 360 has no HDMI and neither does my HDTV.

Post-update seems OK. The double-clutch install (saw the progress bar twice; showed again after first reboot) seemed odd...

Hard to believe that an update as small as fixing an audio issue apparently causes a shit load of people's 360's to brick. Funny how these kind of things only ever happen to anonymous people on the internet.

What? You're obviously a clown for suggesting that anyone experiencing a bricked xbox is anonymous, and also fabricating the experience. What makes us anonymous, the fact that we're not you?

Get a life, hopefully MS will fix this soon, cause my xbox was working just fine before the update, and not 5 min after I updated it froze and continues to do so.

Has anyone tried to cache the hard drive to see if it will fix the problem???
That is of course for those who have a picture!
Theroretically it's suppose to reverse the update.
Go to your settings and highlight memory and then hard drive. now press Y,X,X,LB,RB,X,X. The following message should appear "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage device?"
I don't know if this will work or not but I doubt you could make it any worse!!!

Well this truly sucks how can Ms screw something so simple up and hurt more people than they have helped with this update me included. I went from having a working elite on component cables to a E74 Bricked elite after the update wtf. Lucky enough to never get rrod on a 360. Then a simple audio fix for hdmi kills a system in no time. I thought it was bad luck or something but seeing different forums users from different sites have the same or similar problems makes it an unacceptable f*** up.

Well, I called Microsoft and started asking about the update and all that. And that people were having problems.
They told me to go ahead. While talking I updated. It was done.
AND IT WORKED!!!!!!
I don't know what you guys did to your xbox, remove the power, take out the hdd... LOL
But I think Microsoft tests it a bit better than you think. The audio problem was because of the tv's. So they couldn't test it on all tv's.
I think that what McWilly said is right. There will always be people that will sign up just to complain and "bring down a company".
E.G. Chuck 3d... people went on NBC "forums" and said it sucked. When we would look at their posts. It would be 1 or 2! LOL
Wait, do you think that update contained a BANHAMMER?????
Maybe they always had a plan to eliminate all those nasty people that flash their drives!
And all it needed was an audio update. And it was all planned because they took audio away from the HDMI bla bla bla!
Well done Microsoft!
+1
