Valve's collective, gusto-infused dislike of the PlayStation 3 seemed like it had abated when marketing director Mike Lombardi stated the company's intent to try to tap in to the system's growing user base late last year. However, old habits die hard -- when questioned about a listing for an EA-developed, PS3 version of Left 4 Dead on the site of British retailer HMV, a Valve representative soldered his tongue to his cheek, and replied, "Fantastic. I can't wait to see it."
Could this be the annoyed, outright denial of an extremely-oft-rumored title -- or is it a flexing of Valve's developmental muscles in response to EA's lackluster (though short) history with bringing Newell's brainchildren to the PS3? We're sure to know one way or the other by June 5 -- according to HMV, that's when the Zombocalypse sim is coming to Sony's big black box.

It is not Xbox 360 exclusive. You can buy it on the PC for $20 cheaper, and it can run on a computer from 2004. VALVe's denial in the power of the PS3 can be really disheartening at times, considering EA is making some of their biggest profits on Sony's platform. I guess VALVe doesn't like money*?
* Big lie, because most of what VALVe does is through the idea of making money, such as their acquisitions of different studios and publishing games like Counter-Strike and Portal.

You don't need an Xbox 360 for this game. You can get it on the PC for $20 cheaper than the 360 version, and a computer from even 2004 can run it without any problems. I find it pretty ridiculous that Valve doesn't want anything to do with the PS3 despite the fact that EA is making some of their biggest profits from Sony's system, not to mention the Orange Box on the PS3 alone sold hundreds of thousands of copies even with the lack of real involvement by the company. I guess Valve doesn't like big profits*?
* Big lie, seeing as how they went into financial junctures such as the acquisition of properties like Counter-Strike and Portal.

The situation is a little weird...But I guess Valve is sort of conservative with their technology and it will be a long while until they want to go further with it and jump on the PS3.

I was a little dissapointed with the technical side of Left 4 Dead. I played the first level that starts just after the CGI at the start and the level in the woods, on my friends Xbox360, and it looked a bit old fashioned tbh. Have Valve actually bothered to alter there graphical engine AT ALL since Half Life 2?
I still enjoyed L4D rather alot, and I have no idea how good the PC version looks (I would assume much better) but compared to alot of newer games the graphics looked terrible, particularly when you consider the amount it chugs along on split screen >_

I will be hitting up piratebay while they mock PS3. Not available on PS3 doesn't mean I can't play it for free on PC. Let's see who gets the last laugh.

Whoops, forgot that I was originally replying to someone.
My initial comment was going to be about how I didn't realize playing pirated Steam games was possible since you need a unique CD-key to play a Steam game and I don't think that L4D is possible to play outside of Steam.

Actually, it is possible to HACK steam, in order to play games... and download them for free... My cousin downloaded L4D from piratebay, I got it as a gift (a friend bought a 4-pack off STEAM). We played together. I am not sure how he did it though. lol...

This will probably suffer the same fate as TF2 on the PS3... If it is released I don't think a lot of people will play it for very long and it'll just die out after a few months... I'd say that if you really cared about the game, get it on the PC but y'know, not everyone can run it :I

The same valve that had issues porting orange box (in fact they refused to port it to ps3 EA did it right ?).. The same valve whos co-founder is Gabe Newell and basically doesnt want to touch the ps3:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabe_Newell
After dropping out of Harvard University[1] Newell spent thirteen years working for Microsoft Corporation, ultimately becoming a "Microsoft Millionaire." .....
...........
Newell and another Microsoft employee Mike Harrington left Microsoft to found Valve in 1996.[2] He and Harrington used their money to fund Valve through the development of Half-Life.
You just need to look at Gabe to realise how much of a MS fanboy he is.. Seriously, would it even be worth playing if it was ported ? MS made them Millionaires if you really are desperate for this game your best bet is to get it for the pc or x360.. I wouldnt get it on the ps3, because it will be crap if they do even port it..
Gabe your richer than most of us dream of, your big but at least smile a bit, life really cant be that bad, can it ? Im sorry his photo makes him look suicidal on the wiki site.. ( Must have been all them yrs working at MS lol )..

I always thought it was amusing that Gabe Newell named his company "Valve," since he is pretty much a perfect fit to play Ignatius J. Reilly.

Meh, I say who cares. I owned L4D on 360 and I'll tell ya, after a few hours that game gets OLD. It's very dull after a while, even online. Not to mention, RE5 makes this game look like a sick joke. Valve seriously needs to invest some time into either updating their engine or making a new one. Of course, that would require WORK on their part, and we all know that just cannot happen. Valve devs don't work, they make one engine and use it for the next 10 years =/

Which only further proves how 1 dimensional and lazy of a dev Valve is. But that's all beside the point, PC or 360, the game is the same, repetitive, boring, and thin. It's just Half Life-the story+zombies. The Multiplayer is fun for like...3 hours, then you're done with it. The game was overhyped and overrated. Maybe if Valve actually took the time to make each game they make different, I'd be a little bit more interested in what they have.

hey, at least we have killzone 2 right? ya this is a bit of a kick in the nads because valve, and AMAZING game studio hates the ps3, but we shouldn't get so down about this. there are other great studios out there, media molecule, guerrilla, insomniac, etc. count your blessings ps3 owners and pick this up for PC if you want to play it so bad. thats probably what i'm going to do because idk if i can wait till june for a game that the original developer seems to laugh at

I pre-ordered this game when it was released on Steam for the PC. I thought it be great and all. But it was the worst 40bucks ive ever spent. Its fun the first level, then its just the same. It would be a complete waste of time and money for a developer to release this title to the PS3. Try it on the PC first and you'll be bored after an hour. There's NO story and no multiplayer worth playing.

If you want to spend $0 and play a cool zombie game using Source(you just have to have a source game installed). Download The Zombie Panic mod here http://store.steampowered.com/app/17500/. I like the concept of this game better than L4D.

Left 4 Dead is an amazingly fun game, and it's a shame that PS3 owners (who unlike myself don't have a 360) can't enjoy it.
But the same can be said for 360 owners who can't enjoy MSG4 I guess....

I don't think his point is that L4D isn't fun - his point is that, unlike MGS4, it's also available on the PC.
Just about everyone has their own PC in this day and age, so even a PS3-only owner can play L4D, whereas a 360-only owner still cannot play MGS4.

Hopefully this thread ends with this statement...
"Big Gabe" is really not helping any system - PC game sales are still flatlined and console game sales are outpacing PC sales everyday. It's not only hubris - it's just bad business. I'm sure people within Valve are bugging him everyday about proting games to the WII, the DS, the PS3, the PSP - just imagine the sales! If you really want to play Valve's games, by a Sony PC and enjoy! I'm sure Gabe isn't brand biased - just self-reasoned into laziness.
He's the personification of what people think PC gamers are - overweight, self congratulatory males who know more about PC programming than their calorie-count and prefer disconnected relationships with virtual players versus sharing an experience with others in a room together. The man's just offensive on so many levels and un-justifyingly smug.
...end of line.
