Well Vigilante 8 was good but I'm still very worried for this game. The Movie is gonna be good though so we have one thing to look forward to.

Its by the same writers and director as the first one. How can it possibly have a chance to be good?

@Randy - Seems like you have high hopes for this! :P

I was going to start another long-ass comment about movie-game tie-ins but when one of my favourite films is getting the same treatment I can't really do so.

Yep, Wanted was an awesome film! :)

But I liked the last Transformers movie, perfect popcorn flick.

What does look like crap is the G.I.Joe movie...yechhh!

If the second movie is anything like the first (ie: minimal awesome transformers fight scenes, lots of shea leboeuf being awkward around megan fox, hardly any character development for starscream), then it will indeed suck. Michael Bay can't make a half decent film, period. Also, the only two movie to game adaptations that have been good are goldeneye and chronicles of riddick, I honestly don't know who the hell keeps buying these crappy tie-ins.

the problem with the transformers is that they had such epic source material but are turned into cheap popcorn flicks that arent even good popcorn flicks. Did anyone ever have even the slightest idea what was going on in the fight scenes? It was all just flashing metal swinging in front of your face, which is part of why I also wish they had kept the designs a little more faithful to the cartoon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcee#2007_Transformers_film Look at that, does it look anything like a person besides the stature? Fuck it doesnt even look like a robot, it just looks like some bullshit abstract art statue made from scrap metal

What I have noticed is that people either like or detest the flick.
I guess it has to do how the nostalgia was met. I was only a casual
fan of Transformers when I was a kid, so I guess that has something to do with it.

Now I adored G. I. Joe, and I hate everything I have seen so far of the flick.

But I guess the fair thing would be to give the movies a chance,...blergh.

I don't know much about GI Joe, but I must say I'm a big fan of Snake Eyes. He looks awesome in the trailer. I could care less about the rest of the cast. But I understand where you're coming from Obie, because I couldn't stand what they did to Speed Racer. They were so close to getting it right until they decided to set it in the Future and make it all CGI. It's would have been okay if it was CGI but that CGI looked like candy coated Willy Wonka crap. They should have kept the 60s setting (the 60s was awesome...even though I was born in the 80s) and gave the audience some REAL stunt driving.

I enjoyed the Transfomer movie, but yeah The Dark Wayne, I had some of the same problems with the film. I couldn't see the fight scenes (same problem in Batman Begins oddly) and too much teen crap (excluding Megan Fox) to get through to see the robots. Over all the context of the story is Autobot vs Decepticons fighting to get some type of power seemed to be intact. That's usually the case in most of other transformers series. But none of the transformers really stood out in the film other than the ones regular people would know like Bumblebee, Prime, Starscreams and Megatron.

As for keeping the original designs, according to the commentary on the blu-ray, they were going to do just that. The designs turned out so bad in actual CGI they had to do something different. A japanese guy on the development team denounced them calling them "A disgrace to japanese culture". So they got the japanese guy to design them and he took every piece of each vehicle the transfomers turned into and pretty much turned them into a human form. It's pretty amazing that he was able do that. I view the movie version of transformers like all the other versions of transfomers, like Armada, Beast Wars and Cybertron. It makes it easier to watch that way instead of associating it with just the original 80s version.

Have you even watched the original cartoon? If you have you likely need to watch it again to clear the nostalgia that is clouding your brain. I find it rather absurd that people bash the movies and say things like "epic source material" when, fuck no, the source is quite frankly shitty. Maybe the idea is good, but the bulk of the cartoons sucked ass. Pure cheese.

I used to remember the old cartoons rather fondly until I tried watching them again a few years back and found they were rather hard to stomach. So, IMO, the TF movie was actually fairly decent. I thought it made for a good summer flick and is far and away better than the old cartoons. Yeah, you could say that the transformer models were a bit "over engineered", but I didn't have too many problems with the movie beyond that.

Anwyay, I'm just tired of hearing same old tired complaints about the movie when the movie is actually much better than the old cartoons. Most people that think otherwise are having their judgement clouded by nostalgia.

I hear what your saying in terms of character design Wayne, for i thought the same thing at first glance but then it grew on me. Since they pair up the models with live actors the detailed animatronic look was more suitable over staying true to the cartoon. I draw my self, and still think how could they have pulled it off, to stay more true to the cartoon? Its tough. Its either going to be a highly detailed feature OR a bumbling Sci Fi channel looking flick. If you watch closely there is a TON of detail in the characters, all parts seem to be real with how they move. The action can be blurry(too fast) at times.

I'd rather blow my brains out than play another Transformers game after the last one, maybe it was because I finished it all in one night both sides of the story or maybe it was just a big pile of crap like this one will probably be.

Funny, that happened to me when I shelled out $3 to rent the film. Why does Michael Bay rape all of my childhood idols?

Indeed, i could use some selfish StarScream in there, ready to back stab anyone for his own benefit, but then again, its hollywood, they are trying to encompass a whole Generation of content, crammed into 2 films. Can't please everyone.

Can't wait for the movie... it'll be interesting to see if they can actually manage to make a movie WORSE than the first one. Many say its impossible... but i have faith in them.

I think they realise their mistakes in the first one. They gave a small amount of time to the robots, when they should have gone with their instincts and devoted 100% of the time to sitcom family comedy.

They also had a few scenes which almost treated the robots as something remotely serious, and not as slapstick comedy probs. I'm told the writer responsible for that dumb idea has been fired.

They just need to work out how to get Optimus Prime to trip and fall off a pyramid, get peed on by a dog, while getting shouted at by his dad for coming home late, and they'll have perfected their formula.

Michael Bay: Yeah....yeah, that's good. Let's just add some intense camera movement REALLY close so you can't tell what you're looking at when he falls. Then have the dog pee on him.....get this.....in slow motion.....Bad Boys style. That will be the scene stealer. At the end of the movie people are going to be saying "That dog peeing in slow motion was so AWESOME! I wish I could pee in slow motion!" and I will become a directing legend. o_o

Actually i have them all on VCD, but they are more of an advert than i remember.

The difference is, I was a kid then, and I could overlook all the advertising and dumbness because of it. Now i'm older... and that movie was obviously aimed at 5 year olds. Which is odd considering the number of 30 somethings who remember transformers.

Even when I WAS a ten year old (even the cartoon wasn't aimed at 5 year olds) it used to annoy me that they concentrated too much on Spike and not enough on the freaking robots... because Prime was absolutely cool. (and i don't remember HIM ever being reduced to bad slapstick, even then...)

I don't know, the whole series was so cheesy. I seriously couldn't stand to watch it when I tried to watch it again a few years back. The attempt basically shattered all my nostaliga clouded memories of the cartoon. All the stuff that made no sense like Prime's disappearing trailer, Megatron shrinking to much smaller size in gun mode so Starscream could hold him, many decepticons getting inside Astrotrain, etc... just seemed so much worse watching as an adult. At least the movie was largely believable, as much as a story like that can be anyway.

Basically, I'm just having a hard time understanding your complaints about the comedy in the movie when the original cartoons, overall, were so much worse.

im not going to say its TransFrmr 1 was "awesome", but rather it was worth the money. I went in like most of us with the cartoon in mind, skeptical. Like Obie and others have said, i also think it is a good popcorn flick. I guess the New Star Trek is going to suck too eh? Kirk and Spock young? Motorcycles, sex, running and gunning outside the control room?

Absurd.
