Doesn't sound much different from the emails I get from Nintendo every other week.

Still, though, don't see why Sony has to pull this kinda shit. Bringing back the whole cocky attitude is the LAST thing they should be doing right now, especially when people are starting to get back into the brand.

Always gotta fuck something up, eh, Sony? meh. As long as I get mah games, I'm happy. I can't see them gaining from this as far as how they're perceived by the general gaming populace, though.

Weird that my post here was synonymous with half of the other posts here and yet it's being greyed out. Am I wrong, or something? This is Sony being arrogant, the last thing they need to be right now. If ya think I'm wrong, go ahead and vote me down, but at least have the decency to explain to me why ya think I'm wrong. That's the same courtesy I give everyone else.

Much agreed. If they were going to make a one sided comparison with PSN, they should also make one for 360 and the Wi.... Nevermind that last one. Like some guy did for PC, Mac and Linux, he made a vid of each one and how each is the best. If joystiq doesn't, they'll seem really corny and fanboy-like as well. Well, they already are corny... Especially after that Fable 2 GOTY announcement...

I figured you'd make your way to this post eventually. No surprise here that you have absolutely nothing of worth to say

Actually, I'm starting to think Xta's decision to stop replying to you altogether was a pretty dang smart one, what with you being so stupid as to purposely (or maybe not... maybe you're actually that stupid, which'd be pretty hilarious, though not outside the realm of possibility given just how mind-gratingly dumb your previous posts've been) misunderstand his post in order to have something against him. It's kind of funny, actually, how you're always calling people out, yet the very insults you are always throwing around are applicable to you and you alone

Such as 'weak and pathetic' for example. You're pretty resilient, I'll give ya that, but I wouldn't use that to describe yer resolve so much as yer incapability to post anything that isn't moronic flamebait, lol

Plus, you can't piece together a reply that doesn't sound like it was written by a female highschool sophomore

Long post short, you're an idiot (as if everyone here didn't already know that, lol)

Indeed. Total shilling.

I don't know about everyone else but..

1. I like paying for a service that means all my games work online the same way. I like my netflix.

2. Wait.. don't you have to buy a PSP? Hmm why is this on the list? If I buy a $400 console why would I care about a feature I need to spend another $200 to use. Hi iPod, iPhone, and Zune (yes I said Zune.)

3. Well I can't speak for everyone, but everything downloads faster on my 360. Faster downloads... sony, let's talk about your firmware patches. 360 has a patch every 4-6 months that takes 10 seconds or less to download and install. How many minutes does yours take and how often are they coming out.

4. Netflix and Marketplace videos work pretty good for me... hmm.

5. Wait.. Playstation store? You have to buy movies from an outside, non-PS3 source. That sounds JUST like netflix.. something a lot of 360 owners use already... and we get to use for free if we already had it BEFORE this feature was made available. And it's unlimited access to the Netflix library.. you guys charge movie to movie right? Oh yeah.. and 360 streams content from the PC too btw. As for internet.. why would I want to watch a crappy quality youtube video on my HD television.. they look like crap on my PC's LCD, god I can only imagine what they'd look on a 40+ inch HDTV.

6. Relevant releases? WTF.. you just listed stuff that comes out in DVD that's 65 years old that has no interest in video games (so they wouldn't own a console) could go to a video store and buy/rent.

I would think Relevant releases would mean games that matter. Games you must play on the PS3.. oh wait.. there's only 5 of those.. everything else is also on the 360 too.

Nickerson, you sir are the only intelligent poster in this thread :)

Joystiq... I'm disappointed. Why do you hire fanboys to write articles? Here, let me write a better article for you:

Today we received a press release from Sony touting how their video offerings via the PS3, in the form of Blu-Ray and video downloads, are superior to the Xbox 360, including Netflix. We have to wonder if the general consumer feels the same. Let's do a quick comparison of these two features.

Access to features
----------------------------
As everyone knows by now, the PSN is free while Xbox Live continues to charge a yearly subscription. Some may argue that you get what you pay for, but we'll leave that for you to decide. Many users claim one service is much faster than the other, though a recent impartial study found the PS3 to be the fastest. In terms of raw potential the PS3 should be faster because it offers gigabit lan, as opposed to the 360's megabit lan, but the average user may not have a gigabit network or even know what their network speed is. The PS3 may also require port forwarding to unlock its potential. So in terms of ease of set-up the 360 may win out depending on your network situation, but in terms of maximum potential speed the PS3 is probably the fastest.

Content on demand
----------------------------
Both systems have a video store. The video stores are pretty similar, offering both rental and purchase of videos, with one exception: the Xbox does not allow purchasing of movies. On the PS3 side, you can copy videos bought in the store to a PSP. That's a nice feature, IF you have a PSP. To be honest, most people probably carry around some other less bulky, glossy, white PMP. Of course the real kicker is Netflix. Currently a console exclusive on the Xbox (though probably timed), many gamers are rejoicing at being able to watch Netflix on their gaming device. If you don't have an HDTV and a PC, or just don't like using your PC on your TV, then this is a much better option than buying one of those dedicated players. Netflix on demand has very limited browser support, needless to say, the PS3's browser is not supported. If you watch a lot of movies then you probably have Netflix, and if you don't go the PC-TV route then the Xbox is the clear victor here. If you only rent a movie once in a while, then either service is great for you. If you happen to be one of those people who refuse to rent, and only buy movies (my dad is one of them), then the PS3 is for you.

DVD/BD
------------
Most people probably have a healthy collection of DVD's lying around. Both consoles play them fine, but if you have an HD TV then you may be concerned about upscaling. As far as upscaling DVD's is concerned, the PS3 beats out most everything on the market, including the 360. For the best quality HD video/audio the only option is Blu-ray, which the 360 does not yet support. Both consoles can output true uncompressed 1080p video via HDMI, but with the death of HDDVD there's nothing to take advantage of that on the 360. Between the two, only the PS3 can output true uncompressed audio. Only those with a fancy-pants HD TV and HD surround system can take advantage of this. As far as disc-based video content, the PS3 is the clear winner.

Summary
--------------
There's no real clear winner here without weighing in some kind of objective judgment. Audio/videophiles will of course want the best possible experience and settle for nothing less than the PS3, the extra cost of the system is probably a drop in the bucket compared to their home-theater setup anyways. If you watch a lot of video on demand, then you probably have Netflix and therefore the 360 may be your winning system.

I'm willing to bet the average consumer will lean towards the 360, since they may not have a fancy home-theater nor really care about the quality of their movie experience.

As for my personal view, I don't watch much TV or movies so I don't subscribe to Netflix or cable/sat. I occasionally drop $2 on a TV show like Mythbusters or something, and I watch a lot of shows on Hulu, and I'll buy movies here and there on Blu-ray. What service I use depends on what I'm sitting in front of, whether it be PC, PS3, or 360 (they're all connected to the same 42" HD TV). For DVD/BD I gotta say PS3 is the best, which saddens me because I'd prefer to use the PC over everything... but the video quality is undeniably good on the PS3. Internet video is pretty good on PS3 (especially since you can zoom in the browser), but the PC smokes it. But I have to begrudgingly tip my hat to the PS3 though, it ultimately works the best for me.

Killzone 2 took me around 15 minutes to download, a 1.5GB file (downloading a 1.5GB torrent on the internet can take up to an hour), on the across the seas servers in Europe.

Skate 2 took around 25 Minutes on Xbox Live, and around 5 minutes more on PSN.

Halo Wars took about 20 Minutes on Live.

As big as I've been in defending Sony lately (not because of fanboy affiliation, simply because I like the console), I'm gonna throw in my input anyway

I started the KZ2 dl at around 3:50 PM

It's 8:45 and it's 42% done over here

Shit usually goes lightning fast (Uncharted demo, which was around the same size, took a few minutes), so I dunno what's going on here.

High demand traffic excuse. Not hardly. I could be downloading 'Kittens Go To The Park' on PSN and it would still take me an hour. And don't get me started on the 20 minutes vs 1 minute updates. PSN is horribly slow, so for them to actually make a bullet point about it is ridiculous. If there's any fanboyism, then I'm calling it out on MTV for making an insanely biased comparison on the speed of the network. Because time after time that has proven false for me. And yes, I own both consoles.

And yes, 360 is better. You can call me a fanboy if you want. I'm just doing the same as Joystiq. Putting all the pieces together to where they add up to that Microsoft is just doing a better job than Sony is. Even though Sony has the more powerful hardware, they're not doing much with it. Its their own fault.

The fastest speeds I can get on my AT&T DSL is about 300-400kbps, which translates into 45-60 minutes per 1Gb.

There was sarcasm in the whole thing. Haven't you been around Joystiq long enough to know that they can't say anything good about the PS3?

They posted this just to start a flame war. Of course a Sony press release is going to be one sided. That's bleedingly obvious. Is there really a need to refute every point?

Oh, and complaining that your PSP's battery might be dead is just plain stupid. You could say that for any portable gadget. Ludwig, if you're having problems with your PSP's battery life, get a spare battery or a charger. You know they can charge from the near-ubiquitous USB plugs now, right?

Karl, if you want to go with the "PS3 bias" angle, you should probably wait for us to remove the Killzone 2 review from the top of the page.

But you're right about the flame wars. We have special thermal devices that absorb the heat generated by flame wars into cold, hard cash.

As for the PSP battery "complaint" -- it's a joke on the word "charge." Lighten up, guy.

Flamewars equal ad impressions. They do turn directly into cash.

And it's ridiculous sites like this think trolling their readers is an acceptable way to do business. It'll keep working until a new kind of site comes along that figures out how to simultaneously make money and respect their readers at the same time.

I actually got a highest ranked comment for saying that the Killzone 2 review was poor, so I wouldn't point to that as some evidence of not being biased against Sony.

And it was poor. A few paragraphs summarising such a massive game? I thought that review smacked of disinterest. It was all like "yea, so this game's been getting rave reviews, being marketed as the best fps ever, but there's something interesting on TV".

Joystiq is absurdly biased against Sony -- and you're right, it doesn't make any sense. So stop doing it.

Was the Sony Rep who wrote this release drunk or just trying to pull one past us? They mention the "Double Fees" of Xbox Live. While it's true in terms of the Netflix relationship, the standard video marketplace doesn't even need a gold membership...so in essence it's exactly the same as the PSN service in this respect. I own both systems and actually prefer the PSN (for DLC) but this is just an attempt to be misleading. BTW I live in Canada but if the Netfilx service were offered here, I'd gladly pay the extra fir this added service.

Are you downloading it at the same time on both sytems? Are you downloading it with the same strain on both networks? Are the same number of people downloading each game when you're downloading it? If you've answered no to any of these questions (or "I don't know"), then your 'test' doesn't mean anything.
