New 'The Warriors' game headed to XBLA this summer
Paramount Digital Entertainment has just announced a new Xbox Live Arcade game based on The Warriors, planned for release this summer. The brawler is part of a 30th anniversary celebration that will include a new comic book series and "other products and entertainment". The new game will feature, of course, the movie's trademark gangs, fighting each other.
However, don't expect a sequel to the acclaimed 2005 Warriors game by Rockstar -- this game is being made by developer CTXM and not Rockstar Games.
Check out the trailer after the break! Oh, and "Warriors, come out to play-ay!" Just because it's important to work that into every post about The Warriors.

Pretty cool reminded me of the bouncer on ps2 and if it has 2-4 player co op online i would buy it.
Latin Trident @ Feb 6th 2009 3:20PM
this reminds me of streets of rage. Anybody else besides me think that game should be redone?
Mikemyerz666 @ Feb 6th 2009 6:02PM
i just beat streets of rage 2 the other day, that series is one of the best series' period. definitely bring a justifiable sequel
Superstar90 @ Feb 6th 2009 12:51PM
This is an amazing movie, and the game was really fun too.
Stupendous52 @ Feb 6th 2009 12:51PM
I'm sorry, but this looks like a garbage title. The characters look rigid and the gameplay looks borrrring. Not sure how many people are going to pony up their cash for this one. I know I won't be!
Jerk Face @ Feb 6th 2009 1:02PM
Totally agree. Blech.
NoughtSoClever @ Feb 6th 2009 2:18PM
Only when lacking conviction does a man apologizes for his own opinion.
NoughtSoClever @ Feb 6th 2009 2:19PM
And grammatical errors make a point seem less insightful. Doh.
Stupendous52 @ Feb 6th 2009 3:17PM
Way to add your insightful commentary into the discussion. Nice going.
Otsego_Undead @ Feb 6th 2009 4:09PM
Seriously.
Step 1. "Lets do a game that has already been done successfully before by a developer that everyone already knows and loves"
Step 2. ????
Step 3. MONEY!
i probably did it wrong. point is the same.
Foetoid @ Feb 6th 2009 6:39PM
'MONEY' Should have read 'Profit???'
justin @ Feb 6th 2009 12:53PM
not ENTIRELY disappointing. i do love the warriors, so a side scrolling arcade fighter generally excites me.
ryan @ Feb 6th 2009 12:53PM
I'd probably be looking forward to another Warrriors title, if my xbox copy would actually work on my 360, Microsoft! *stinkeye*
Maxx the Slash @ Feb 6th 2009 12:53PM
Friggen sweet! The Warriors was one of the best games out there. This one should be pretty good too.
Lord Negatron @ Feb 6th 2009 1:10PM
Sweet? This one is not made by RockStar bud, so be careful with the candy you take from strangers.
Might have a razor blade in it.
NaeemTHM @ Feb 6th 2009 2:12PM
What Negatron said. This is not a good thing.
This CTXM has only developed cutesy casual games and the Warriors deserves much more than that.
Maxx the Slash @ Feb 6th 2009 2:21PM
Strangers have the best candy.
Anyway, I watched the video. It looks like a full-length beat-em-up game like Duble Dragon and Final Fight. I haven't played a sucky beat-em-up yet (though I did see a lot with bad storlylines).
In fact, it looks to be pretty much the same style as the Armies of the Night mini-game found in Rockstar's The Warriors, and that was fun as hell. Combine that with 4-player co-op and the fact it's The ****ing Warriors is win right there. It also looks like a pseudo-sequel, because the Hi Hats seem to have a brand new leader after what happened to Crackerjack in Rockstar's game. It's interesting in that respect alone.
And besides, that's why the Xbox 360 let's you download demos. If it does suck, at least you're playing the free demo. Just don't buy it.
haldier @ Feb 6th 2009 4:14PM
@NegatronProbably a couple of bottles not razors... :-)
ScottG13 @ Feb 6th 2009 12:57PM
Does not look very good. Just go pick up the PSP or Xbox version. Sadly, its not back compat.
LordChimp @ Feb 6th 2009 12:58PM
I wish it was backwards compat.
The Dark Wayne @ Feb 6th 2009 12:59PM
too bad real gangs dont look like that
Deeznuts420 @ Feb 6th 2009 1:24PM
to be honest batman, my henchmen were clowns also
indiemaker05 @ Feb 6th 2009 1:02PM
Ummm. What does this need to exist? It looks like it follows the movies plot, like Rockstar's game. And since it's an XBLA title, it has fairly low production values. I mean, the graphics on Rockstar's was better, Rockstar's game was also true to the original film and followed its storyline closely. That was also a brawler. I just don't get the need for a cheaper, uglier, less deep retread.
I'd much rather have Rockstar's available as downloadable greatest hit or whatever.
Mayne @ Feb 6th 2009 1:42PM
Yeah, this one looks dumb. I was excited at the mention, but seeing the gameplay just completely took a dump on that shred of hope. I mean, the original on XBox had an unlockable arcade brawler; this game looks pretty much no different than that, save for four player support.
Interesting that there will be a new comic series out, though... It'll probably be crappy just the same, but it's at least interesting...
Levi @ Feb 6th 2009 1:06PM
It's also appropriate to work "Can yooooooooooou dig iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit," into every post about the Warriors too.
As a huge Warriors fan, I'd like to add that Rockstar's Warriors game was the best frikkin' tribute to the movie ever conceived.
This game? I don't know. We'll wait and see.
playwhutyalike @ Feb 6th 2009 1:38PM
The Warriors are the shit.
When I was a teenager I was watching the Saturday Late Night Movie (on whatever channel it was on) bored to tears. I've never heard of the movie at all and was very skeptical being a snot-nosed, cocky teenager thinking I was going to watch a heaping turd.
I was proven very wrong. Warriors made me their bitch.
XLM @ Feb 6th 2009 1:08PM
The Baseball Furies have dropped the ball.
Jon D @ Feb 6th 2009 1:10PM
looks like garbage. if you played the original Warriors game, you can tell this isn't made by the same company. it's a so-so 4-player beat-em-up (and i LOVE beat-em-ups), but this doesn't look like it's going to deliver. at all.
Lord Negatron @ Feb 6th 2009 1:16PM
/holds head
After watching the clip then remembering RockStar's version of the game, i ....i... just ca..WHY!?
Why?
Vegnagun bwf @ Feb 6th 2009 1:17PM
Title of the post should have been: Warriors come out to play on XBLA this summer.
I can dig that title.
ryan @ Feb 6th 2009 1:30PM
Now why aren't you typing for the 'stiq? lol
Great title.
Bill Vancour @ Feb 6th 2009 1:19PM
I'm not sure what to think about this, but at the same time I love me some mindless beat-em ups (assuming that'll be what it is)
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Feb 6th 2009 1:19PM
Yeah this looks terrible. They should have just brought the Rockstar game on XBLA.
aristokrat @ Feb 6th 2009 1:21PM
Reminds me of Die Hard, from the arcades.
Peter @ Feb 6th 2009 1:33PM
OMG, this needs to come to PSN! this and wallace and gromit, that would be awsome!
deaddays @ Feb 6th 2009 1:31PM
Well, this is DEFINITELY not ANYTHING like the amazing Rockstar game, but c'mon guys, it's THE WARRIORS! I'm downloading it on general principle. Plus, I'm impressed by how much footage they included of the Warriors beating up on The Lizzies.
House @ Feb 6th 2009 1:40PM
This crappy video just makes me want to go find my PS2 copy of the Warriors. What an underrated game.
Brucie_K @ Feb 6th 2009 1:47PM
CAN YOU DIG IT?
HolyOrphan @ Feb 6th 2009 2:04PM
How does this even make sense? I haven't been able to play the original Warriors game in years because, for whatever reason, it's not on the backwards compatibility list.
yo Naturale @ Feb 6th 2009 2:29PM
I'm trying to recall the last time I was so quickly excited and then succinctly disappointed in turn so quickly.
It looks like CTXM fucked up this one. That trailer should've been something they kept to themselves....
Here's a list of things present in the movie and the Rockstar game that made both so good, and yet were absent from that CTXM video:
- Great (voice) acting. Reading "can you dig it?" holds none of the weight, and none of the ironic humor.
- Great soundtrack. Not sure who paired that music to the action, but in the words of a certain knight, "you have chosen... poorly."
- A single fight move that I can view a hundred times and still laugh at it every time. I'm looking at you, double-fisted hammer punch.
pibs @ Feb 6th 2009 2:30PM
R* The Warriors was the best tribute to the movie and since most movie based games blow Id hate to see it as a crappy XBLA title just milking the name. Do you guys remember how much fun it was to steal car stereos just to get some coke money!
Mikemyerz666 @ Feb 6th 2009 6:09PM
personally i liked smashing the guys faces into the wall, looks like it hurts everytime, lol.
manoj mohan @ Feb 6th 2009 2:33PM
The best game ever! I have been waiting for this on Xbox 360 for such a long time! I'll play it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again!
Blue_Falcon @ Feb 7th 2009 12:02AM
Warriors are coming to XBLA-i-ay!
(I have no idea how to write out the ending for the line, but I think you get the idea)
