Paramount Digital Entertainment has just announced a new Xbox Live Arcade game based on The Warriors, planned for release this summer. The brawler is part of a 30th anniversary celebration that will include a new comic book series and "other products and entertainment". The new game will feature, of course, the movie's trademark gangs, fighting each other.
However, don't expect a sequel to the acclaimed 2005 Warriors game by Rockstar -- this game is being made by developer CTXM and not Rockstar Games.
Check out the trailer after the break! Oh, and "Warriors, come out to play-ay!" Just because it's important to work that into every post about The Warriors.
I'm sorry, but this looks like a garbage title. The characters look rigid and the gameplay looks borrrring. Not sure how many people are going to pony up their cash for this one. I know I won't be!
Anyway, I watched the video. It looks like a full-length beat-em-up game like Duble Dragon and Final Fight. I haven't played a sucky beat-em-up yet (though I did see a lot with bad storlylines).
In fact, it looks to be pretty much the same style as the Armies of the Night mini-game found in Rockstar's The Warriors, and that was fun as hell. Combine that with 4-player co-op and the fact it's The ****ing Warriors is win right there. It also looks like a pseudo-sequel, because the Hi Hats seem to have a brand new leader after what happened to Crackerjack in Rockstar's game. It's interesting in that respect alone.
And besides, that's why the Xbox 360 let's you download demos. If it does suck, at least you're playing the free demo. Just don't buy it.
Ummm. What does this need to exist? It looks like it follows the movies plot, like Rockstar's game. And since it's an XBLA title, it has fairly low production values. I mean, the graphics on Rockstar's was better, Rockstar's game was also true to the original film and followed its storyline closely. That was also a brawler. I just don't get the need for a cheaper, uglier, less deep retread.
I'd much rather have Rockstar's available as downloadable greatest hit or whatever.
Yeah, this one looks dumb. I was excited at the mention, but seeing the gameplay just completely took a dump on that shred of hope. I mean, the original on XBox had an unlockable arcade brawler; this game looks pretty much no different than that, save for four player support.
Interesting that there will be a new comic series out, though... It'll probably be crappy just the same, but it's at least interesting...
When I was a teenager I was watching the Saturday Late Night Movie (on whatever channel it was on) bored to tears. I've never heard of the movie at all and was very skeptical being a snot-nosed, cocky teenager thinking I was going to watch a heaping turd.
I was proven very wrong. Warriors made me their bitch.
looks like garbage. if you played the original Warriors game, you can tell this isn't made by the same company. it's a so-so 4-player beat-em-up (and i LOVE beat-em-ups), but this doesn't look like it's going to deliver. at all.
Well, this is DEFINITELY not ANYTHING like the amazing Rockstar game, but c'mon guys, it's THE WARRIORS! I'm downloading it on general principle. Plus, I'm impressed by how much footage they included of the Warriors beating up on The Lizzies.
How does this even make sense? I haven't been able to play the original Warriors game in years because, for whatever reason, it's not on the backwards compatibility list.
I'm trying to recall the last time I was so quickly excited and then succinctly disappointed in turn so quickly.
It looks like CTXM fucked up this one. That trailer should've been something they kept to themselves....
Here's a list of things present in the movie and the Rockstar game that made both so good, and yet were absent from that CTXM video:
- Great (voice) acting. Reading "can you dig it?" holds none of the weight, and none of the ironic humor. - Great soundtrack. Not sure who paired that music to the action, but in the words of a certain knight, "you have chosen... poorly." - A single fight move that I can view a hundred times and still laugh at it every time. I'm looking at you, double-fisted hammer punch.
R* The Warriors was the best tribute to the movie and since most movie based games blow Id hate to see it as a crappy XBLA title just milking the name. Do you guys remember how much fun it was to steal car stereos just to get some coke money!
The best game ever! I have been waiting for this on Xbox 360 for such a long time! I'll play it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again!
