@anonim1979: those are old pictures before the PS3 got optimized like the 360 did. Look at the newer video from the demo, they are identical. The PS3 has plenty of headroom left for even better graphics I'm sure.

I have too Jampirow. Zombie 2 was a great movie.

We had a black guy on my swim team in high school (No, his name was not Token). He was pretty good, and he was the first person who told me that black people don't swim.

According to the dev, they're not zombies. So you're really just fighting rabid fanbo...err infected people and giant flying things. Oh and when they die they fizzle and bubble like the fucking Wicked Witch of the West...

Both games are 3rd person shooters, Dead Space's controls are smoother, but I will be getting RE5, because I think getting used to slightly dinky controls will be worth the awesome action sequences that this one is certain to deliver.

But that's just me of course. :)

What I meant was that Dead Space was actually scary at times, and the demo was even creepy. (I personally like the ability to move, even slowly, while I shoot, but if you don't, then to each his own) RE5 doesn't have the atmosphere of RE4 or its predecessors either. I have just felt unimpressed by this one and when I talk to other people, they often feel the same way.

I liked the RE5 demo more than the Dead Space one. There just seemed to be more content overall. I also like RE5's visual presentation a lot more.

I think the tension was appropriate for a zombie game. I was constantly ran out of ammo, and hard to be very aware of what was going on around me to survive. The only reason I was able to beat the axe-man was because I kept luring him into exploding barrels. I also seemed to be finding ammo and guns just after I had run out of ammo, and was freaking out about using the knife.

That being said, the game mechanics of zombies dropping bullets and whatnot, combined with the fact that I was able to simply run past a lot of the zombies drew me out of the game incredibly quickly and made it very clear that I was, in fact, playing a video game.

Co-Op is never a huge selling point for me, and the general clumsiness of the game, pared with some old Resident Evil conventions kind of turned me off.

I would definitely say that Dead Space does a great job of maintaining tension but more importantly a believable reality.

Kattleox: To be fair the RE5 demo was extremely short, it would make more sense if you reached this conclusion if you played both.....in their entirety.

The re5 demo threw nothing at the player that you shouldn't be able to handle, not even close, and the game is obviously is built around the way it plays. There are 4 control schemes, with quick turn (down and A), item swap, etc that (at least from the demo) should be plenty to play with in the bounds of the game extremely well assuming the rest of the game ends up fine with Mikami not involved. Complaining about these controls only shows your inadequacy to adapt. Did you freak out when BC:R came out too?

@Obie/Vegeta

I know none of us have played through the full game, but the atmosphere is usually something advertised in a horror game. I am not setting the de facto "RE5 is terrible and nobody should buy it" but FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN and what they have advertised, I, personally, have not been as impressed as I was with RE4 or even dead space. I love Resident Evil, but they aren't really trying to improve the formula this time around, as far as I can tell. Sure, vote me down, but my opinion is that they haven't pulled all the stops, like I have seen capcom do many times before.

Tune in to today's episode, where our foes learn to control boats. And ships.

You know, It's really hard to believe Capcom's "They are still zombies, honest." motto, when the things that we kill are starting to have more knowledge than a math teacher.

Am I really the only one who misses the good old Resident Evil gameplay when you were confined to small corridors, streets and halls of apocalyptic cities while fighting disturbingly disfigured slow zombies with clear zombie-esque properties? Somehow these.... things in RE 4 and 5 just completely fail to scare me.

Also what the fuck is up with the dead ones umm.... evaporating (???!!!) from the ground after killed? It seems like what little thriller there's left in RE is being taken out to be replaced by more Americanized chainsaw gore action.

I agree. I remember playing the PS1 Resident Evil and being to scared to even sleep some nights. The GC version improved upon it, but RE4 just felt like a whole new IP to me. Sure I jumped (like the first time the parasite popped out of the head) a few times but it wasn't the nail biting, ammo conserving game that to me is Resident Evil.

That's a good point. I was so put off by almost every other aspect of the demo (outside of graphics) that I totally overlooked the stupid evaporating! They only leave behind them the fresh smell of pine.

I wouldn't mind playing a version with the current controls (pluse walk and shoot) in a mansion. Vastly reduce the amount of ammo and make the zombies stupider and I would find it very interesting. Right now it seems like co-op will be this game's saving grace.
