NYCC 09: Bethesda developing iPhone title
In the closest thing you'll find to a Megaton announcement at New York Comic Con, Fallout 3 executive producer Todd Howard has confirmed during a panel at the show that Bethesda is now working on an iPhone game. News of this comes from Newsweek corespondent N'Gai Croal's twitter feed (we heard it, too -- sitting in the audience!) and includes no other details. That's because there weren't any.
Whether the game is Fallout-related, Oblivion-related or something completely new, we're intrigued to find out. Who knows, maybe it's that ill-fated Oblivion PSP title that never made it to market. Check back later for our full report on the Todd Howard and Ken Levine panel at Comic Con.

Fallout 1 port??????
I might just do a dance if that's what this is.
HyperNexus @ Feb 6th 2009 7:03PM
Anything Fallout related please.
Shoryukens @ Feb 6th 2009 7:06PM
awsome
Lee @ Feb 6th 2009 7:07PM
If they make Fallout 1 and/or 2 for the iPhone using an insanely cut down (but still with Vats) Fallout 3 engine I'll be smiling all over this end of the moon.

I think we will instead see Fallout 1/2 recreated on the PC using Fallout 3's engine from the community and thanks to the developer's SDK, the G.E.C.K.
The first two games are great but now many who have played 3 cannot go back to them as they feel dated to them. It would be nice to give them a fresh coat of paint for the new generation of gamers to try out again, I played them back in 98/99.
BigD145 @ Feb 6th 2009 8:58PM
It'll be at least 2 years before a fan port comes in.
Levi @ Feb 6th 2009 9:50PM
Honestly, I doubt it. You might see remake projects start to pop up, but if it's anything like the classic Doom remakes in the Doom 3 engine, they'll never get finished. I would argue Fallout remakes would take quite a bit more work than Doom remakes, but I guess I haven't seen the dev tools for Fallout 3 / Oblivion.
BigD145 @ Feb 6th 2009 11:33PM
Golden Eye Source is almost ready and that was a monumental undertaking. It also took quite awhile.
Mr Khan @ Feb 6th 2009 7:13PM
Bethesda: If it's not a Nintendo platform, we're willing to give it a try.
Chinpo (BRING BACK RUROUNI KENSHIN !!!) @ Feb 6th 2009 7:26PM
Nintenwho?
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Feb 6th 2009 7:50PM
Nintendonalds!
...sorry, that just brought back so many memories.
Mr Khan @ Feb 6th 2009 7:52PM
To not that it wasn't me bashing Bethesda as a bitter Nintendo fanboy or anything, just an observation. They really haven't done anything on Nintendo platforms in recent memory, at all

I'm kind of upset that Curmeo got permabanned. I mean, its not like he was worse than Vesper, he was just went full retard
Mr Khan @ Feb 6th 2009 7:58PM
Permabanned? Or he just hasn't come back yet. I mean, we've had a lot of people get banned and come back weeks, months, or years later (like Fernando, Jack of No Trades, Killjebus, and Mr. ESC)
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Ultrastiq Revolutionary) @ Feb 6th 2009 8:28PM
yes but Curmeo was an attention whore. Attention whores get banned then jump back into the action headfirst.

VATS + touch = amazing
BigD145 @ Feb 6th 2009 11:37PM
Touch without VATS would be amazing.

It looks like the Iphone/Ipod Touch are shaping to be formidable competitors to the PSP and DS with their large userbase and inevitably increasing developer support.
Mr Khan @ Feb 6th 2009 7:56PM
It would be interesting to see how they would end up as competitors. Personally i think it'll end up like the relationship between consoles and PCs, it won't be a competition, it'll merely be an alternative
Of course, Apple has made statements about trying to be competition, but then again the Computer makers of 1985 claimed that they would replace console gaming, so there's that.
aj @ Feb 7th 2009 3:19AM
I honestly don't know what to think about that. The iPhone/iPod is EXPENSIVE. I wonder who in the world would pick up an iPhone to game on over the alternatives.....but then every day on the train I see groups of little kids, each with his or her own iPhone. It boggles the mind. How can a platform be taken seriously when it's so far out of reach? Or have remarkably expensive cell phones become the norm and I just haven't noticed?
No, seriously, I'm not being sarcastic, I actually want to know what's going on there.
dastranger @ Feb 7th 2009 11:14AM
@AJ - in what way is the iPhone any more expensive than any other Smartphone? In terms of the Touch when you compare it to other mp3 players of similar flash memory size, again... how is it more expensive? In many cases, the Apple offerings are either equal to CHEAPER than it's competitors. So, I'm not understanding this logic here.
Chinpo (BRING BACK RUROUNI KENSHIN !!!) @ Feb 7th 2009 12:30PM
Well the title states Bethesda is working on an Iphone title, but I assume it'll work on the Ipod Touches as well right? The starter Touch model starts at a bit over $200, not too much more expensive than the PSP.
My own main gripe with the IPhone/Ipod Touch is shortage of storage, I wish there was a hard drive option or memory stick/SD slot.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Ultrastiq Revolutionary) @ Feb 6th 2009 7:23PM
sadly, I'd say crippled may be how this game ends up D:
Jotun @ Feb 6th 2009 7:43PM
Exactly. Instead of learning how to code for the iPhone, how about they learn how to code properly for the PC, PS3, and Xbox. Personally, I have a $60 blu-ray coaster because I can't play the game for more than 15 minutes before it freezes.
Thankfully, my blu-ray coasters are the envy of all my friends at parties. Well, those and my toilet paper rolls of twenty dollar bills.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Ultrastiq Revolutionary) @ Feb 6th 2009 7:51PM
where do you get those? The stores I shop at only carry $10 rolls.
Levi @ Feb 6th 2009 8:10PM
Dude, send it in. I have zero problems with my coaster. Fallout has a couple glitches, but hardly anything that makes it unplayable.
GameDevMich @ Feb 6th 2009 7:44PM
Interesting...but my iPipBoy project is probably further along =)
I like the image above, though. Looks a lot like the screens I released for my project = /

Yes!! im so glad i have a iPhone ! :)
wertt @ Feb 7th 2009 9:51AM
Gamestop tried to get me to preorder Oblivion for PSP once. True story.
kentuckyfried @ Feb 8th 2009 8:24PM
attn: Bethesda
How about porting over all that DLC for Fallout 3 to ps3, first? lol.
That'd probably earn more money than an iPhone title. Their priorities are all jacked up.
