14-year-old breaks GHIII 'Fire and Flames' record, guitars
At the tender age of fourteen, our oafish hamfists could barely handle the simplest daily tasks: Shoe tying, pencil handling, typing and so on. Danny Johnson, a 14-year-old with such outrageous manual dexterity that we're of the firm belief he's at least two-thirds robot, recently performed a task we thought unthinkable -- he broke 17-year-old Chris Chike's official record on Guitar Hero III's most difficult song, "Through the Fire and Flames", and he broke it by nearly 100,000 points. Robot.
Johnson, who's broken nearly 80 guitar peripherals over the past nine months in pursuit of the record, set a wide margin with strategic Star Power usage, elevating his score to 973,954 (topping Chike's 899,703) during a performance at a Best Buy event with Guinness officiaries in attendance. However, we've seen Chike garner even higher scores without being witnessed by the aforementioned officiaries -- we think it's time for these two Jimmy Woods-esque virtuosos to settle this in a no-holds-barred, winner-take-all guitar duel.

Good enough for 6th on Scorehero.
Who cares?
Xanto @ Feb 7th 2009 8:58PM
Scorehero has a bunch of fake scores, namely the ones without a pic or vid attached to it
Haggard @ Feb 7th 2009 9:37PM
I'm sure if you put yourself in the top 5 for Dragonforce somebody's going to notice you've not attached proof.

I was thinking the same thing. These two are so close to the "You are a F**" achievement.

Can he play a real guitar? No. ....
I'll be going now.

"On a side note doctors say both Chris and Danny are very likely to get arthritis at the age of 20".
9 months?! Wow I usually say "f*ck this sh*t" after 1 hour and a half.
Haggard @ Feb 7th 2009 8:11PM
Been subscribed to this guy on youtube for a while. He's FCed all the other Dragonforce songs too.
Wish he'd turn his hand to decent music instead :D
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 7th 2009 8:17PM
C'mon there Dragonforce is great but it reached the Super Special Awesome status because lately music sucks. What’s the latest in music? I mean Coldplay Viva la viva ain’t bad in fact is the best song they have but that’s because they stole that song from someone else (Pretty obvious because Coldplay songs suck)
They might not be as memorable as let's say the Scorpions which strangely enough their songs are shorter and more simple than Dragonforce ones but they are still very good.
Sora @ Feb 7th 2009 8:28PM
Viva La Vida is a good song, but if you think it's their best...go listen to their other three albums lol.
Haggard @ Feb 7th 2009 8:51PM
Problem is Dragonforce can't even play their own songs. It's like some guys on a marketing panel came up with a list of descriptions of 'epic' and a bunch of robots wrote music to simulate it.
So you end up with 8 minute slogs with the most arse-garbage lyrics known to man, no composition or entertaining structure whatsoever, and solos which simply try to be as fast as possible with no meaning.
And no, I wasn't really referring to any new music. Despite being 17 there's pretty much no music since the early 90's that appeals to me.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 7th 2009 9:08PM
Okay I'm back,I didn't like them. Too meh and sometimes depressing.
About Dragonforce:
"It's like some guys on a marketing panel came up with a list of descriptions of 'epic' and a bunch of robots wrote music to simulate it"
So that's why I like it,usually I like my songs without human emotions J/K.
Actually I think they relly on the guitar too much, they do that sort of stuff guys that know how to play a guitar put in youtube at fast speed to claim they have teh l337 skillz except these guys do it in normal speed.
The lyrics to be honest I always thought they were inspired by Dungeons and Dragons.I can't find better music to lisent to while playing Magic the Gathering.

to me, music died the day soulja boy got noticed. now, if you excuse me, i'll go to the corner and listen to my classic rock collection. led zeppelin is arguably one of the best bands ever. as proof, listen to the covers of immigrant song and find more than one good one. you can't. queen and nirvana covered that song and epic failed. the ony band that's ever done a good cover was great white.
mynk @ Feb 7th 2009 10:14PM
im not saying his new music is good, but it's gotten better since the actual soulja boy song. have you seen "turn my swag on"
mynk @ Feb 7th 2009 10:17PM
sorry for double post but i forgot to add, that really all music isnt bad. if you're open to things, death metal can be good (and i dont mean the songs which are just meaningless screaming. there's good death metal) really good genre's are alternative and nu metal. the three official linkin park albums are still my favorites because not only do they have nice music, but the lyrics are very inspiring.
system of a down and disturbed show heavy metal songs can be good too, and rappers like enimnem (sorry its not a popular fresh - reference) show that rap can be good too. basically you just have to have an open mind and look around, music isnt bad, its just that there's so much quantity now that its hard to find good quality.
Nuclear Chauffeur @ Feb 8th 2009 12:09AM
What's "good" or "bad" when it comes to harmless entertainment is all just personal taste. You're not wrong or right if you like a certain band/song/album/whatever.
Lavat @ Feb 8th 2009 12:28AM
Your wrong if you like the pretentious mindset of Coldplay.
Steam or PSN: slycooper_rocker (The Agent of Orange) @ Feb 8th 2009 12:35AM
@ mynk
yeah you're right, there is no good or bad music. just good or bad taste. and you're right, you really do have to listen to something all the way and then judge it. i hated BYOB because the first 15 seconds made me think it was some screamo song with no lyrics but i gave it a chance and now i love it. and a lot of people might not get the point of him, but buckethead is a god in my opinion. it's all taste.
Alex @ Feb 8th 2009 6:21AM
Haggard, what about Buckethead?
He can actually play, and I think he is better than Dragonforce's computer simulations. Listen to Soothsayer, Nottingham Lace and Jordan. Then go on iTunes and buy Electric Tears. Flange-tastic.
Haggard @ Feb 8th 2009 11:21AM
Oh, I do like Buckethead, mainly because he plays with feeling in quite a few songs.

XGM @ Feb 7th 2009 8:14PM
Wow at say 50$ a guitar, thats about 4k spent just to get this record. I wonder how much time it will take for the next one...
Haggard @ Feb 7th 2009 8:53PM
Well, he didn't just play TTFatF for those months. He's FCed pretty much all the ridiculous songs, and I imagine quite a lot of those guitars were warranty replacements.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Ultrastiq Revolutionary) @ Feb 7th 2009 8:16PM
he can play with his eyes shut? Now THATS a Guitar Hero

At the end of the day what does a chess Players, olympic Runners, NBA all stars, poker players, musicians, comedians, performers, artists, animators, etc. all countless hours perfecting their work in order to be great. This is just another example of that type of devotion. He may or may not be remember for it, but there are plenty of individuals in the categories I mentioned above that are not remembered. It matters to the people competing and it brings them joy or a feeeling of accomplishment. All in all, not matter what we do it doesn't matter.

"You say learn a real guitar (even though he has) - What benefit does playing real guitar have over this?"
did you *really* just ask this? you must be a complete dolt if you can't understand the value that creating music has over getting a high score. creativy > pressing buttons really fast. duh.
also, playing guitar gets you laid, whereas being as good as this kid is at guitar hero most likely prevents it.
dronesensor @ Feb 8th 2009 2:41AM
guh, i messed up. wrong thread.
Ghen @ Feb 8th 2009 9:16AM
I don't put my resident evil speed runs on my resume either but I still like to brag about it. Why do you think this is any different than mastering any other impossible game and getting noted for it?
Hyams @ Feb 7th 2009 8:18PM
I have to admit, I am a little curious why anyone would put so much effort into a videogame like this. At the end of the day, what do you really get out of it? All you're doing is memorising and repeating a set pattern.
With all the hours spent practicing this, he could have instead done something productive, like learnt to play a real guitar, or learnt some other skill, anything that would have been some use beyond being able to tell people that he got a high score in a game.
Ben @ Feb 7th 2009 8:31PM
Are you in the Guinness Book of Records?
Actually, come to think of it, 90% of the record holders in that book don't have records in anything "useful", so what?
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 7th 2009 9:01PM
Hey but you want to know who took the biggest sh*t.
Ontoglory @ Feb 7th 2009 9:07PM
Hey, he loves the game - if that's what he wants to pour his time into more power to him. I'd like to see what he could do taking up real guitar tho.
I also don't understand some people hate of these games. They are fun, innovative (and yes I am well versed in the history of the music videogame genre) and at the higher difficulty levels take some prodigeous skill. Some people act like they are a blight on the landscape of gaming and I don't understand it.
On a side note I have a friend who has no fingers beyond the second knuckle of his hands and can play songs on expert w/his back to the screen. Amazing.
jynxycat @ Feb 7th 2009 9:10PM
If you actually read the article, he can play the piano, guitar, drums, saxophone and oboe.
And he's in the Guinness book of world records.
AND he's only 14.
Iwa @ Feb 7th 2009 9:14PM
He actually does know how to play an actual guitar. He's even said that playing Guitar Hero has helped him with hammerons and pulloffs on the guitar.
Jeepers Creepers 712 @ Feb 7th 2009 9:42PM
Really though... What in life ISN'T a waste of time? Whether you're a film buff, in a motorcycle gang, married to your job, collect stamps, political activist, etc. It's all just a way to spend your time until you die.
You say learn a real guitar (even though he has) - What benefit does playing real guitar have over this? It's just another hobby that wastes time until you die.
Vidikron @ Feb 7th 2009 10:01PM
Too bad we all know the official record isn't the true record and have a video to prove it. Enjoy the paper championship, kid.
