Far Cry 2 patch to add 'Hardcore' multiplayer mode, rebalances weapons [update]
We didn't know anyone wandered into Far Cry 2's expansive, hojillion-hour-long single-player campaign and somehow managed to make time to check out the game's multiplayer offerings, but apparently there's a sizable community of online FC2 players out there. This group has been calling for more realistic match settings for quite some time -- players can apparently catch more lead than Sonny Corleone and walk away with little more than a scratch and an interesting story.
Their pleas have been answered -- in a recent post on the FC2 community blog, the game's developers announced a patch which will, in addition to rebalancing the weapons in all multiplayer modes, add a more realistic "hardcore setting" to all match types. This mode will boost the damage for all weapons (ensuring speedier demises) and will let players tweak the "spawn times" (but not the "spawn rates", whatever that means). They didn't specify which platforms the patch will be landing on -- hopefully, they'll be affording a hasty death to all three.
Update: The update is coming to "all platforms". Huzzah!

I don't know about PS3 and PC but the controls and multiplayer are horrid on 360. Compared to Call of Duty it is literally unplayable.
Cj @ Feb 7th 2009 10:15PM
Are you serious? The controls are like any other fps on the 360. And the mulitplayer is great. Maybe its you and no the game.
mrimac00 @ Feb 7th 2009 10:53PM
Don't hate the game, hate the player.
Strategy_Panda (Pot & Spoon 4 Life) @ Feb 7th 2009 11:04PM
no, ShadowXOR is right the game controls a lot differently.
The dead zone on the left stick is a smaller, you have about 3/4 of the normal amount of space to work with compared to standard FPS games. There is a lot less "fine movement" and it is hard to accurately lead a target.
Obviously the issue doesn't exist with K&M but on the consoles the game takes some getting used to. I personally did not like the controls when it came to playing online.
NukeAssault @ Feb 8th 2009 12:09AM
I agree, the controls are just weird. The MP in general is just bad.
Jerk Face @ Feb 8th 2009 12:16AM
I thought the controls in Far Cry were pretty damned good. No complaints here.
jynxycat @ Feb 8th 2009 12:30AM
The camera controls have movement acceleration. As you hold down to turn or look up, it goes as planned. If you hold it down any longer, and it speeds up.
It's honestly really annoying, and there's no way to change it in the settings.
Then there's the amount of bullets it takes to die (being addressed I guess).
Finally, players basically glide across the map, making it really hard to kill people with all of the above.
Anticrawl @ Feb 8th 2009 1:49AM
You must have retarded fingers or are use to the incredible auto aim strength in COD4/Halo 3. I have no problem racking up 20+ kills each match with a high accuracy percentage. Perhaps it's just you.
Smurfy @ Feb 8th 2009 8:08AM
Controls are fine on PC.
MikeO. @ Feb 10th 2009 9:37AM
jynx is right about the turning accelerating as you hold in a direction. If you can't accept that it is true because you are "so good", then that your problem. It feels like RE5's aiming in reverse.
In RE5, you have a rubber band type aim where you pull from the center and it snaps back when you let go. In Far Cry 2, it seems to want you to look in every insane direction except directly in front of you. It feels like trying to direct a kid with down syndrome through a round of Ninja Warrior.
arrrgh @ Feb 9th 2009 10:57AM
Game controls pretty well for me (360)
the level designer is the real winner here. Man that thing is fun
the MP isnt bad. With hardcore mode it could become on of my favourites
PSN: Erdie @ Feb 7th 2009 10:09PM
I still have to pick that game up, I should get on that.
Steam or PSN: slycooper_rocker (The Agent of Orange) @ Feb 8th 2009 2:14AM
yeah same here.
giantenemycrab @ Feb 7th 2009 10:14PM
Why won't they add quick save to the console versions?!
slicecom @ Feb 7th 2009 10:18PM
That'd be nice.
mrimac00 @ Feb 7th 2009 10:54PM
That would make the game too easy.
Haggard @ Feb 8th 2009 9:35AM
Ludwig/Justin were saying that using quicksave pretty much ruins the game. I did, and thought it was awful because i could just try whatever tactic and if it didn't work, who cares?
Playing through again without it and having a much better time.
Cj @ Feb 7th 2009 10:27PM
Bring back Predator mode and then we will be talking.
mrimac00 @ Feb 7th 2009 10:55PM
And there's still no fix for the corrupt saves in the Xbox 360 version. Weaksauce.
Villack @ Feb 7th 2009 11:00PM
Will this patch cover the consoles as well? From what I read off their site, it only covers the PC version.
I hope they fix 3 major issues for Ranked Matches.
1) If the Host dose not push the ready button everyone has to wait until he/she pushes it to start the game. Even if we have 16 players and everyone has ready-up'ed, except the host, the game won't start. Sometimes I have to wait 15 minutes plus just for the game to start. Fix it to where if you have 12+ players and 3/4ths of them have ready-up'ed then the game will start regardless if the Host is Ready.
2) I hate it when hosts ban everyone on their team that is below level 10. They only do it to get all level 10+ players on his/her's team while the other team is full of low levels. Talk about balance...Fix it by semi-randomly placing everyone on a team at the beginning of a game. By "Semi-randomly" I mean, even amount of high and low leveled players on each team. No one is allowed to switch teams.
3) Stop kicking us at the end of every ranked match. I don't want to go through the load-screen-limbo to look for another game again.
Here's looking to the future....*drinks a beer*
Vincent060 @ Feb 7th 2009 11:02PM
I hope it also fixes the other problems with the game. Like how everyone gets kicked back to the main menu after every match and people's ranks going down after a period of unuse. Plus the problems in the main game, like guard posts that respawn enemies way too quickly, enemies being able to see you way too easy, plus the complaints from the Zero Punctuation review.
Rabidkeebler @ Feb 8th 2009 9:36AM
That guard post thing was why I stopped playing. I mean, I clear a guard post. Talk to some one 30 yards away. Turn around and the guards respawned. I discovered this 30 minutes into the game and decided..."yeah, not gonna go through this for the next 10+ hours).
JediMogg @ Feb 8th 2009 12:00AM
I haven't tried the Multiplayer yet. Still working on the sizable single player. I'm almost through. I think the game is fantastic. One of my favorite shooters I've played in the past few years. I'm surprised it hasn't been more popular.
luigi @ Feb 8th 2009 12:12AM
It says right at the start of the post on ubi's site that the patch is for "all platforms"
Jerk Face @ Feb 8th 2009 12:18AM
I loved the single player in this game, but I never gave the multiplayer a try. Think I'll have to do just that, since a buddy of mine just picked it up.
Far Cry 2 is the shit, and anyone who says otherwise doesn't like good video games.
Cyro @ Feb 8th 2009 12:24AM
I am currently playing it right now. The single player is very long and I mean very long. But the story is cool. Graphics are amazing and the weapons feel solid. I would have to say top notch for any shooter.
Its a good purchase and well worth the purchase. I would recommend this game to anyone.
Jerk Face @ Feb 8th 2009 12:27AM
ESPECIALLY, since it's only 40 bucks right? A steal, honestly.
At least it WAS. Hopefully they didn't raise the price again without my knowing.
Smurfy @ Feb 8th 2009 8:09AM
Yeah man, your preference = undeniable truth
Deck @ Feb 8th 2009 12:29AM
How about a fix to the save bug? I sold the game once I lost all my saves from that damn bug. I didn't know it existed until it was too late. I would get back into it if I knew I wouldn't lose my saves!
That would be nice!
Banners @ Feb 8th 2009 1:35AM
They should patch all the problems with the single-player, such as the monotonous, dull missions, the guard posts that respawn too quickly, the convoys that go around in circles, the way everybody shoots at you, the lack of wildlife, the way you spend most of the game looking at a flashing green dot rather than the brilliantly-rendered world, that you don't know who you are or what your motivation is... and so on.
FC2 is amazing for a few hours but soon becomes laborious despite its massive potential. So it's a shame that a patch to fix all its single-player problems would come in at about 4Gb and be called "Far Cry 3".
Jtenma @ Feb 8th 2009 4:29AM
Well done Banners.
But the game isn't all bad. I played it till' the end and while it felt like it lasted a little too long, it did succeed in making you feel like you were in the scorching suns of Africa working for every diamond.
The fire propagation system was cool too.
peepoop @ Feb 8th 2009 9:56AM
This was one of the few games I sold back... I could get used to the guard post respawning and the litany of other issues, but the game-stopping bugs (where it wouldn't give you any more missions) was enough for me...
cubert @ Feb 8th 2009 4:36PM
When will they fix the ranking system for PS3? I'm always dropping in rank.
Lionbacker steamID: detfan1957 @ Feb 8th 2009 6:13PM
That's because you suc-
You know what? Never mind. That joke was way too easy.
Jose El Maton @ Feb 8th 2009 8:34PM
Yeah, I hate that shit. I'll play for a couple of hours one night, rack up a bunch of experience points, advance the little bars for the different weapons manuals, then I'll log back in the next day and it's like I only played 1 or 2 matches. All that time WASTED. I hate that shit.
SunKing @ Feb 9th 2009 5:42AM
I don't really know what everyone's talking about with the game's length. It honestly isn't that long. Other than that, I have zero interest in this patch as I have no inclination to play the multiplayer.
CJLopez @ Feb 9th 2009 11:31AM
If only PS3 version had WASD/Mouse support. My PC runs it hardly at 16FPS, its sooo unplayable and i can't tolerate FPS on console besides Wii. Thye should do what EPIC did with UT3
Johnny Neat @ Feb 9th 2009 11:47AM
What about the game itself!!!!???? Because shooting the bare chested or merely tank-top wearing enemy AI multiple times is beyond annoying... Not to mention that the check point re-spawns, inconveniently convenient Malaria attacks & ridiculous weapon damage is out of control unrealistic. I mean anyone?
DavidC @ Feb 9th 2009 5:27PM
This patch better fix the loss of XP
i,m sick of loseing it
there is no point even trying to get to level 30 with this bug >_<
i dont want a new game mode i want you to the fix the game!
DavidC @ Feb 9th 2009 5:32PM
yeah they reason why it looks like you only played 1or2 matches but really played 10 or 11 is cause the game doesnt save or whatever plus we lose or xp and even sometimes or level!
This patch better fix the loss of xp...... please ¬_¬
DavidC @ Feb 9th 2009 5:37PM
yippy its coming out on all platforms thats all well & good.... but WHEN!
