all the Sonic bashing is so silly to me.

I like the 3D Sonic games ('cept for the '06 thing), and I think they all hang together very well.

people that complain about Sonic now-a-days just come off sounding like crotchety old men longing for the glory days of 2D as if that solved (and would solve) any dislikes they have with the series.

would I be opposed to a 2D Sonic? no.

in my opinion, games like Sonic Spinball is where Sonic is being "raped" just for the sake of his name on the box. and that was a loooooooong time ago. and I bet plenty of ya'll have fond memories of Spinball, am I wrong?

so chill out guys.... I know it's fashionable to hate on Sonic. but try to think for yourselves.

btw, please see my Sonic Manifesto in the Random section.... it may be enlightening.... www.wiiaredeep.tk

Sonic Rush is still the last good Sonic game...

Because the gimmick was two screens, which actually works.

Who even notices the gimmicks anymore? The Sonic universe has more canons than any next-gen console has SKUs.

Screw off Sega! Sonic runs to the right, jumps, and spins. That's it. No swords. No 3D.

There's plenty of opportunity to enhance the original 2D game-play on current generation consoles:
- wide-screen graphics (see further ahead)
- high definition graphics (see more of the environment)
- more memory (don't re-use the same background tiles)
- more processing (more enemies, rings, etc., on screen at one time)

I wanted this game to be good, but you make it sound like it's another fail for sonic >_>. I hope that when I play it I like it, or it's back to the cycle of sonic games.

I've never preferred the Sonic games to Mario. However, I think people over-simplify what made the old Sonic games good. It wasn't just speed, although that was a part of it. Instead, it was the ability for you to choose how to proceed through a level. If you wanted to blaze through quickly, you could do so (most of the time). But if you wanted to explore, that option was open to you as well. And there was a good deal of tricky platforming. Not to the level of the Mario games, but it was still there.

I can't say that the newer Sonic games I've played are _bad_, per se, just painfully average. And that in and of itself is enough to doom the game, because the series has so many expectations to live up to. That being said, the last 3-D Sonic I played was Heroes, and I don't have enough time to stick with it (backlog is waaaaay too long).

And no, Sonic Adventure has not aged very well. I find the controls to be iffy, at best. But the Dreamcast was a system that deserved to do better than it did, and has a huge lineup of great games. I honestly think that had the system included DVD playback, they would have won the battle against Sony.

...just play your old Sonics people.
If you want Sonic to be "just like back in the day" - just pick up the one FROM back in the day.

If you want a new-er version of the old gameplay, then keep e-mailing SEGA.
For now, this isn't your game, move on.

Other people who want to give this game a try for the sake that it's a game, will -for better or for worse- play it. We'll tell you how it is once we're done with it.

And the nostalgia freaks, haters, and other sorts are all over anything Sonic whenever it sounds even remotely good just to spoil the experience for the rest of us. I would ask what the hell is up with you all bashing it, but then that would require forgetting that common courtesy does not exist on the Internet (it's not common enough).

The fact that these kinds of people defecate all over a game that only playtesters have touched is a disgrace to itself. Sonic isn't the problem; YOU ARE, Ralph! (Odds are, and I know this, your name isn't Ralph, but it's just a major incidental mindscrew to all the Ralphs in the world)
