Watch the Street Fighter IV opening cinema
73
In 10 days, the U.S. will receive Street Fighter IV. It's a game that needs no prefacing of any kind. We just thought that you might want to take a break with us and watch the completely awesome Japanese opening cinematic. Seriously, if you watch one video today, this should be it. It's way better than the last trailer we showed you. Akuma totally fights Gouken. You can find the video past the break.

Seriously, this is nuts.
I swear, I feel like it's the early 90s again. God damn it, what I wouldn't give for an arcade cabinet!

QFT!
After a series of Alphas, EX and others, I'm looking forward to a return to our roots accompanied by a new and exciting look. THIS is what I always hoped SF II would look like.

It's a shame they ruined what would have otherwise been a pretty badass video by having the Japanese equivalent of Linkin Park provide the soundtrack.

No way, the song was great. First time through I thought they were singing:
'Oooh Yeah! Tech Support!' But I think it was actually technical.
I for one would be greatly disappointed if the English version doesn't come with the song in it's original JRock glory!

Let's just be totally honest and say none of you know anything about Japanese music.

I know a bit about Japanese metal, but the JRock stuff seems pretty obnoxious to me for the most part.

I was thinking "N-Stink" myself. When did Justin Timberlake become synonymous with Sushi and Sapporo?

I actually like the Jpop opening and would imagine that Capcom would replace it with the crummy heavy metal that the spike SF4 TV commercial aired between the UFC program they had on. If the dubbed vs subbed SF anime movie has taught us somethin', Street fighter + Heavy Metal song doesn't mix well.
I think I am goin to be flamed here, but I thought that even though the sf3 third strike opening appears to be annoying at times, I liked it since the hiphop song fits well..

Yeah that song is as bad as Linkin Park. That's one thing about Japan that's actually worse, J-Rock.
There are some good bands though (which when I went to Tokyo no one had heard of) like Mono and Envy.

And that song just ruined everything for me. Any hopes I had of looking cool while watching this in my living room just exploded in front of me like a poorly made pipe bomb being held by a dear loved one.
Until the second song picks up. After that, everything's A-OK again.

Holy crap. That's pretty awesome.
Was kind of hoping that Street Fighter would be ABOVE the rather blasé JPOP intro song, but the graphics were so pretty that's all I really payed attention to.

Too long and it's not even interesting to look at, it's all muddy and windy and most of it looks alike, no variety, like say a Tekken or SC intro.

Maybe they'll do what they did with DBZ budokai 3 intro and just take the words out. I was completely fine with that.

Anyone know if this game will support custom music(on ps3)? It seems like an obvious thing to put in to me, but hardly any games actually have it(on ps3)

This is how japs are. They are not like us, Westerns: they wouldn't put some depressing thrash/death metal with profanities/obscenities as a cover for the story about good vs. evil. Unless of course they plan for evil to win in the end.

Too bad the actual gameplay isn't quite as bold artistically as the cutscene stuff, but whatevers, it still looks entirely awesome.

Hmmm.....generic gameplay, doesnt bring anything new to the genre, the story and plot is cliched and uninspiring, poor voice acting, doesnt live up to the hype, looks like a 7 at best - hold on, its not a PS3 exclusive you say? Stop the press...

I'm guessing you posted incorrectly because bringing up plot in a fighter makes a lot of sense..
i would also contend the generic gameplay statement since street fighter has always been a blast to play, especially against people at the same skill level. i'm not sure what makes it generic, but the fighters are diverse enough (sure there are clones, but even they are modified) to make it fun to master each one.
street fighter doesn't need to bring anything new to the 2D fighter genre. it IS the 2D fighter genre.

Bringing up plot in a fighter DOES make sense. For all its faults, the one thing Mortal Kombat has all over the Street Fighter franchise is a compelling plot. Show me a SF game that has a plot twist like Bison shockingly killing Ryu at the beginning of the game (see the intro movie for MK Deadly Alliance), and then we're talking.
If they'd throw a coherent plot in the SF series it would be pretty much perfect. As it is, we're loaded down games that are canon but then aren't and out of order sequels.

@SAMIK & KIZZLE
I gotta say, I feel sorry for you guys if you think that SF doesn't have a plot. I would go into detail as to why but you should probably WIKI/GOOGLE it for yourselves, because it would take to long to type.
To sum it up though, Sf like SOULBLADE said, CREATED the 2d fighting genre. And arguably the most popular characters in the SF series are RYU/KEN. So I would like to think that whenever someone thinks of a 2d fighter, they think fireball motions and dragon punch motions. So think about it now that SF4 is upon us and the fact that...
THEIR FUCKING MASTER COULD BE ALIVE!

Please Kizzle, Mortal Kombat's plot is hardly what anyone would call compelling. If someone likes a game, they get into the plot- regardless of the quality. The death of Lu Kang wasn't brilliant writing, it was a cheap plot device that was thrown away at the end of armageddon.

You all are missing samik's point. He's saying that if this happened to be a PS3 exclusive we'd hear about how it's nothing new and adds nothing to the genre. While that's true for this, and 99% of all video games in defined genres, it only seems to come up in reviews/previews when it's a PS3 exclusive, not a multi-console game or 360 or PC exclusive.

Sure SF has a plot.
But can you really find anyone who regularly plays SF that actually gives a shit about the story lines of the games?
I doubt it.

Well, seeing as how this is the games introductory/opening video and NOT merely an advertisement trailer, in-game footage isn't really necessary. It's just online for the sake of looking awesome in and of itself.
That J-pop song was rather annoying though... Probably something I'd get used to over time if it's in the US version, but definitely grating as of now. And I thought the rap/hip hop in SF3 was annoying...
