lol, dont think much of us are worried anymore lemme rephrase one of those sentances

"I know you're totally eager to see me"

We WERE totaly eager, my hopes for this have died down now, especialy since KZ2 will be here soon, when march comes arround my fingers will still be gripping with Killzone.

Hi SOCOM,

While you were away, I finally met Killzone's big brother, Killzone 2. I saw a picture of him, and he looks really great. We're going to meet up in February and forget you ever existed.

Don't rush on your way here - you might trip and hurt yourself.

Yours,

Europe

The headset is actually pretty awesome. Least the game will be "finished" for Europe. I was so happy when the last patch came but seems a little late for me cause I just can't get back into it anymore.

False. You know that was said back in launch. The only problems this game ever encounters now-a-days is if there is lag on a Friday night, which is nothing out of the ordinary. The game has been patched several times, and it's fun to play. I play it every day I turn my PS3 on. Even when I get Killzone 2, SOCOM will still be my primary game.

When you say it's the most glitchy thing ever made, you assume that people teleport, go through walls, etc. None of that shit is in SOCOM. SOCOM just had a bad release, and it's been hanging over its head ever since.

Hell, they even updated SOCOM.com to feature community features. I think SOCOM deserves more recognition. It's a very underrated game. If anyone read 1UP's review, they had to re-review the game (gave it the same as Resistance 2) because of the improvements the patch brought, and that was like 2-3 months ago.

They had their chance when they were gonna release it back in early Jan, it's too late now considering KZ2 is so close. And the fact that most people who would have wanted this game have already imported it.

Yup I imported it, I think they did let it slip, would have got it xmas or early jan people would buy it, not when a major game is few weeks from release

QUESTION

I've heard some pretty mixed reviews on this game. Well, all bad really. But I've deduced that this is mainly because of lag and online issues (yes, I know it's online only).

My question is that, assuming these issues have been attended to when it's released, is this a good game?

really, unless you own every other socom game, you worship the socom gods, and are in love with terrible load times, glitches, and poor gameplay, then don't get this game. just get killzone 2 or simply wait for another 3rd person shooter that is really good

Is this just a current gen port of the old games? I was always a CS fan, and Socom never really sunk in for me. I never got to play it online, but the single player was just very boring to me.

So does the multiplayer play out like matches of Counterstrike, with people running around, only sneaking or slowing down to aim to shoot more accurately, or does it play out like the single player of Socom games, where you crawl through half the stage? Like, is it about sneaking around or about map strategy and gunplay?

Ahhhh, I'll YouTube it.

Its a good amount of sneaking with run and gun. Probably 60%run and gun 40% staying out of the open so you don't catch the random nades.

i got this on release date in the US, it has been unplayable for months, until version 1.3 came out i didn't think it was release quality. if there is a server side issue, you can do nothing with the game. unfortunately some developers are treating game DLC and patch ability online as a way to release an incomplete game and fix it later.

SOCOM release was moved because of KillZone - the previous release dates were going to clash. SCEE obviously wants maximum sales of each game - lol.

As much as I hate to admit it, I love this game despite the frustrating issues. If /6 can get this ready before Euro launch then it's viable. Granted KZ2 is coming out and and all the FPS freaks out there will pick it up and it will occupy their time. I'll probably pick it up at release too, but KZ2 isn't for everyone, and all my buds like to play Socom, so... Considering the headset by itself is $50 US and the bundle is $60, we're getting Socom for $10. Take that into consideration if buying the bundle. I believe the gameplay and stragegy are really good in Socom, it's just the issues, (lag, glitches, promised features that have yet to be fulfilled) that get on my nerves. It's slowly but surely shaping up, and if /6 stays in business (not that I've heard anything to the contrary) it will continue to get better and evolve over time.

I neglected to mention my love of the photo used in this post. It's a commando, with a commando weapon (M4A1) with a mercenary RPG-7 on his back. This isn't possible in the game, so I find it pretty awesome.

the bad thing, Mario, is that the full release was the same as the beta, just more levels, more people. It's gotten better since, but I've been a fan since Socom 2, so call me biased if you will. I just haven't found anything that is quite as much fun as the Socom series. GRAW2 online was pretty good, but the framerate wasn't all that and could put some off, I didn't even bother with single-player as it was a snore-fest.

They should have waited and released it until it was finished, which is likely in march. I bought it for $15, so it wasn't a big deal.

Yup, since i got bored of MGO I've been waiting for a good, realistic, strategy FPS.

I've only ever played the PSP Socom's and from that limited experience I will be all over this one.

Killzone is gonna be fun for a bit of a "blaster," Socom can be my sneaky sneaky snipe a monkey game.

At least it's finished by the time they release it. Don't forget not all gamers sit and read all about future purchases on the internet, a whole lot of gamers rock up to the store and browse the racks.

This game will still attract purchases. I mean just because there's something "NEW" in the racks! - I can't tell you how sick i am of seeing my stores selection with the odd new title.

The game is still bugged.. For a game that was pushed out of dev WAY to early... it's came a long way but no where near where it Should be considering it's been like 6 months sense it's been out...

That said, if you can see past the lag (YES i said lag), the glitches, frame rate drops at random stupid times like looking through the rifle scope and u move it slowly.. One sec its where u want it next your looking at the sky! Awesome! (Happend to me 4 times now)

That said, its a decent shooter if you don't take into the glitches and lag, if your a nitpick stay FAR FAR away. Game is Horrible, SlantSix needs to be shot.

Even with the newest patch, the game hasn't really approached 'release quality'. The game, while online multiplayer only, still looks very unpolished and not much of a leap in terms of what we've seen so far this generation. With the few matches I was actually able to form (what the hell is up with that 20 second bullshit before it kicks you out to your Private Lobby?!), the 'fun' factor is evident but to all SOCOM vets and fans, don't kid yourself. This isn't the game you were expecting. Do yourself a favor, buy the bundle for the 1st Party headset (awesome) and sell the game as new on eBay.

Everything from the Start Menu to the lobby looks half-assed and screams 'inexperienced'. Anyone else hear of Slant Six before this game?

Unfortunately you cant take the comments about SOCOM seriously on a site like this. SOCOM is a slower paced, tactical game where when you die, you sit out for 5 minutes until the next round. Those 3 things right there are going to turn off all the casual gamers. Did the game have glitches right after release? Oh yea, big time.

However, since 1.30, the only problems I have with the game are the lame load times (1 time every 15-30 minutes, depending on match length), and the awkward quick swap/inventory change to grenades and pistols. Otherwise the game plays exactly the same as SOCOM 2, only with better graphics and smoother gameplay.

This is still the best shooter this gen, and this coming from an Xbox fan where the system is overrun by them.

I think we should expect a major patch before it hits Europe or at the very least the announcment of a patch/DLC by the time it hits. The delays are indicative this.
