Toys R Us selling 13 mo. Xbox Live Gold subscription cards for $30
75
Have you been Left 4 Dead-ing by your lonesome? Halo 3-ing without helpers? Castle Crashers-ing with no cohorts? Yaris-ing by yourself? Okay, that last one didn't exactly work, but you catch our drift -- if you're in the market for an extension (or revivification) of your Xbox Live Gold subscription, Toys R Us is selling the 12 month (plus one bonus month) subscription cards for 40 percent off, or $29.99, from now until Saturday. This deal is applicable either online or in your local brick-and-mortar TRU, but only one of those options affords you the opportunity to ride on a tiny, delightful carousel. Choose wisely.

i know a few ppl got voted down for saying this but i too wish XBOX LIVE stopped charging for the online service as their competitors. i am grateful that Microsoft got into the game & basically FORCED its competitors take notice that GAMERS want to play online (as its PC countrerparts) & since we can't go & compete at the ARCADES anymore. ***the fact that games & the actual service has types of ADs in there to avoid the need of us paying is messed up. oh well, that said XBOX LIVE is awesome (don't have a PS3 yet) and the Wii should include demos but the FREE online is kewl. DANG the Grammy performances are out of hand. gonna youtube the artist now that i never heard of... peaCE & God Bless.

you know i used to pretty much be a Playstation fanboy (more or less) but now i really appreciate what the Xbox and Microsoft have brought to the table. nothing is more entertaining now than online multiplayer, you just never know what your going to get when you boot the thing up and we wouldn't have had that if it weren't for MS showing everyone it was a good idea for consoles. they have really done a bang up job this gen.
that said, i also like how Sony and Nintendo (more-so Sony) have expanded in a way on what MS has done by offering a free online service similar to Live. sure it doesn't have the install base of Live or as much content but it's still a damn good service, especially for a first try. makes it easier for anyone to just pick up and play. i know people say they dont mind paying $50 a year for Live but seriously, what other online network still does this prominently? and the thing that gets me the most is that even though you pay for Live, you still have Ads out the wazoo everywhere, while the free PSN does not. you would think the Ads could help pay those subscription fees for ya.

Really if you think of it!
Toys R Us is selling it for $29 in US
in Canada they are selling it for $53
so basically its the same prize
cause $29 US is about $53 Canada!

And for all the XBL haters, go back to your PSN (which I have, and detest) which is slow, and has about as much usability as an aardvark tipped upside down with a fork up its ass.
"Wait, I want to send a friend a voice message, let me just... oh, wait."

nothing wrong with the PSN man. dont really understand the hate. both are great services. i dont have the best connection in the world so the PSN actually fits my needs better. i dont want to pay for Live if im not sure my connection will be working, so PSN it is. but this is cheap enough that i might go ahead and bite on it anyway.

No comment, i will just smile, and be smug.
"PSN does everything and more! and its FREE!"
PSN does what it does, but my favorite line is: "I also have the 360 and i never use it online, it doesn't satisfy me, nor does it have exclusives that i am interested in."
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight...
Those people need post they're gamer tags so i can check/compare games.
Uno and Feeding Frenzy*...riiiight...

Let's do a little pro list for both
XBL Pros
- Simple, easy and effective game invites
- Party chat system
- Video chat
- Avatars (interesting, at the very least, even if you don't want to use them)
- Game downloads for every game on the XBL marketplace
- Even though people may not use it, there is an incredibly high percentage of people with microphones
- Easily accessible interface, very user-friendly
- Achievements which are quickly and easily viewable on any friend profile
- Ability to send voice/text/video messages to multiple recipients
PSN Pros
- Free
- Store purchases are $ based, rather than points, and are the local currency
- PS Home..?
- Trophy support
- Bluetooth keyboard support
- Dedicated Servers
NOW, I give the PSN serious props for their dedicated servers. That's something MS really messed up on.
That said, I still would rather play slightly laggy 16 player matches with people who talk than super fact 60 player matches with more people than necessary and with no one who can speak.
SO for me, and a WHOLE bunch of others, XBL > PSN
And, as usual, that's whats going to happen in a XBOX GAME BLOG POST.
And just to make it completely clear, I have both. I know it was said before, but I'll say it again.

Of course the world doesn't have to justify themselves to "me". He who has reason for commenting negatively on paying for or using XBL probably* do not own a 360.
If they do own one, then there is a chance of using silver account. Nothing wrong with any of this besides their opinion lacking a well rounded background.
Whats wrong with me checking a GT from Xbox.com to see what their gaming personality is like? Specially those that have a big beef with current Gold Account terms.
LS2L7 your XBL gamer tag is?
Riiight...
In all, i would take the ones who have "gold" see what they have played, accomplished and read their opinions accordingly. Of course XBL gold isn't worth it to someone who has a gamerscore of 200, and was last logged in months ago**.

There is a counter argument for everything you will propose, so just let people buy and play what they want. In a world of multihundred dollar consoles and $60 gamea, it's not about dollar for dollar.

If people are seriously complaining about the cost of Live for 13 months being too high, they're in the wrong hobby! I can understand if you aren't home to play much, but if you are a 15-20 hour-a-week player like me, the cost is so low it's meaningless. At $30, it's $2.30 a MONTH. Eat 2 less McDonald's cheeseburgers a month and you've covered it. Even at $50 it's only $3.85. Seriously...we'll spend $60 on a game we play for 2 weeks but balk at spending $50 (or less!) for 13 months?!
I always assume this argument is the way for some people to show their disdain for MS because a lot of the other arguments have become moot...
I own both systems and can categorically say that Live has been the better experience for me.

Again, it's not that I can't afford it. I could afford to burn a $100 bill each day and still get by.
Online play is free on PC, Wii and PS3. There's no reason it shouldn't be free on 360. Hell, when you boot up, Live just shows you ads anyway.

Agreed.
Sifting through the complaints/opinions, i once again urge people to write MS, that would seem more logical. As we play our consoles of choice on our own time, i have NEVER used the 360 and thought, "damn MS is nickel and diming me to death!"
Some of these posts put sound like Vork of "The Guild", so frugal.

You can buy multiple cards and redeem the codes all at once; the months remaining on your Live subscription will add up appropriately.
The maximum amount of time you can have on one account is three years.
This is a really good deal if you looking for live but I was able to find a better one back in Dec. I was shopping around and I happened to find a store that was selling the 12 months for $5. I got like 8 years of XBL for $40 lol.

This really sucks.
I paid full price for one of these at Best Buy two weeks ago. Then they reduced the price AFTER I applied it to my account. Now TRU is doing the same deal, and I'm still stuck with the one I paid for.
Man... I'd be tempted to get one for next year, but that's a long way off and I don't know if I can just hold it for a year and apply it at the end. I don't even know if I'll still have an Xbox a year from now. I probably will, but I'm not going to assume it.
I just have to accept that I'm out $30 extra dollars, and cry myself to sleep.

I think the service is worth paying for, but why not include a free 1 to 2 - month live gold membership with each new game you buy. I think it would encourage gamers to buy new games instead of used games and also make more money for developers and M$.
I also think having the gold membership helps M$ determine the level support needed for online gaming. They don't need to waste money building a system that could support, for example, 10 million online gamers when only 3 million are interested in doing it. Sony may be learning this the hard way with Home.

Thanks for heads up guys. I was checking Joystiq out during class (like always) and saw this deal. Went straight to Toys R Us, picked me up one of these goodies.
I was mad I missed my chance with the similar BestBuy deal last week. Woot.
