With the release of Pokémon Platinum a little over a month away, we're beginning to find ourselves relapsing into feverish pokémania. If you've ever known the thrill of a full-to-brim Pokédex, we're sure you've got the bug as well -- which is why we're sure you'll be excited to hear that Toys R Us will be offering a free download of the legendary Grass-type pocket-sized monster, Shaymin, from now until Saturday. Just pop into your local TRU with your copy of Diamond or Pearl in download mode, and snag the lil' guy.
Shaymin comes in two distinct (yet equally delicious) flavors -- "land form", which is how he'll appear once you've plucked him out of the Wi-Fi ethers, and "sky form", which he'll change into should you trade him to Pokémon Platinum. Rumor has it that the toy store will offer another downloadable 'mon in mid-March: the towering Regigigas -- not to be confused with Reggie-Giggles, our nickname for Nintendo of America's equally statuesque president.

So you'd get two Regigigas?

Actually, they failed to mention this Regigigas is a limited edition one with a special move it usually can't learn (forgot which). Also, transferring this Regigigas to Pokemon Platinum unlocks something, but I don't think they revealed what it is. Same with Shaymin (you unlock some special item with Shaymin).

They never do these giveaways in Canada. It sucks.

USA only? Peh, when will they do these events for their dear northern neighbour?

In other news, the distribution ROM for the Shaymin event leaked, so anyone with a flashcart can distribute legitimate Shaymin.
Lmao.
Lmao.

Well, you're at least on one continent with these give-aways.
Or maybe there were some things like this in Germany, but one is that it wouldn't really be compatible, either because of region differences, or some other kind of problem, and the other is that if I think about it, it probably would be much more expensive, to get there from here, than from Canada to any state of the US, which kinda sucks, as it's a shorter distance away. And then we would still speak a different language.
Not that Pokémon means this much to me, it's just...the fact... that it's like this. You still have it far better than us, "strandeds".
So I understand your aspects too, and I would do the same, if I'd live in Canada, but!... I don't, so I feel like I have to shed light on even more unfortunate situations. Pathos ended.

Why don't they just make it so you can enter a code in the game for it, in some Wifi mode? That way they'd only work once, and I wouldn't have to drive for an hour to a Toys R Us (Which I won't).
On second thought, why don't they just put more depth into the actual game? They've been using the same storyline, and pretty much same art for over 10 years? I guess adding 100 new Pokemon (Which suck in comparison to the originals), excuses it.
I'd personally prefer a remake of the original Red/Blue/Green, on the Wii, with superb graphics and some actual depth. That would make it a bit more fun to play the same game for the 10th time.

A code? Because: 1) Anybody with WiFi can get it, which is not the point (there already is the ability to do this programmed into the game). 2) People don't have to go to Toys R Us. Which is the point. The point is for Toys R Us to try to get people into the store. It's a marketing tactic. Especially since then they might preorder Pokemon Platinum and get it at launch, when otherwise they would've not paid it much mind. It's just about marketing, not about giving everybody free stuff.
If you actually played through the newer games, they have different story lines... I'll admit, the story lines are crap, but they have different story lines. Then even add a lot of subplots. And I don't think the series is known for its story.
Remake of Red/Green, though? Well, the GBA remake makes this almost pointless, but I do think one with the classic feel but great 3D graphics and depth would be nice. As Red/Green have been redone recently, Gold/Silver would be a better choice... though it really needs to be rebalanced, as the time and day issues made it a pain in the arse if you actually have a life. (Then again, how many gamers can claim that.)

I've played the Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal/Ruby/Sapphire/FireRed and Diamond, the only one's I've skipped being Leaf Green, Emerald, and Pearl.
The -only- time I remember there being a difference in storyline is with the Gold/Silver/Crystal series, otherwise:
You become a Trainer
Your Neighbor becomes a friend/rival
Gym Battles ensue
Beat Neighbor in Elite 4.
I admit there are tiny differences, but you'd have to be lying if you said they weren't all pretty much the same game with some new pokemon added each time. The only real change they've made recently is the semi-3D walking, which I really don't know if I prefer, with the same exact battling sequences. They were able to port Super Mario 64, what's stopping them from making the battles similar to Pokemon Stadium nowadays?
Seems like laziness to me! And it sure says a lot when I'd rather pop in my copy of Pokemon Yellow rather than play Platinum, not for nostalgia, but because at least I remember it being a little different.
I do admit though, that I haven't really looked up any info on Platinum or Emerald at all. Anything different about them?

Actually, since Red/Blue/Yellow, villians have changed and the plots with them have. I mean, Ruby/Sapphire involved the world nearly getting flooded or the oceans being destroyed somehow, Emerald was about Rayquaza needed to calm down lest the world be destoryed even worse. Diamond/Pearl were about time or space being torn asunder, and Platinum is about a dimensional rift that must be closed or something, and it is explored over the course of the game.
Becoming a Pokemon master hardly was most of the plot; it had little story value, usually revolving around the world needing saving from villians/crazy Pokemon/both. And story was supposed to be left mostly open anyways, as it is about the playing writing his/her own story. I'm a game design major and just got through studying how that is a strong element in games nowadays and some players love that.
Still, I will admit the stories are crap in Pokemon; very cliched, uninspired, and open ended. I don't think they're about story.

They were able to port Mario 64 IN 2004. Why can't they actually, I dunno... make a good 3-D platforming/adventure game?
Yeah, I already used an AR to walk over the shiny stone, and I don't plan on buying Platinum, so thanks, but I'll take the Darkrai extended events.
Oh, those don't exist? How about a backstory for Arceus?
What? That doesn't exist either???

Kinda make us look bad today when somebody came in the TRU I worked at and we didn't have it setup, we told the guy to come back tomorrow and it'd be ready, luckily he was understanding.

Egh, I need to get some groceries anyway so I might just drive up to where a TRU is located and do that.

Probably a stupid question, but do you have to have the national dex to pick shaymin up? I never did finish that off, so I might have a little work to do by this weekend.
