Talking to Nintendo World Report, High Voltage's Eric Nofsinger officially dated the now officially not-terrible The Conduit. The hyped FPS is scheduled for release in North America on June 9. Unfortunately, the company confirmed that the game will not include local multiplayer. However, that news may be overshadowed (for us, at least) by the mere mention of High Voltage's other game.
Normally, with a game as scarcely covered as Animales de la Muerte, we'd say something like "Hey, remember Animales de la Muerte?" when news about it finally pops up. But of course we all remember Animales de la Muerte. There is no way anyone could have forgotten a game about a Mexican zoo full of zombie animals. And now we have some news to report about the game that is, more than anything else, the reason we're looking forward to The Conduit (when it's out, High Voltage can put more resources into this!).
Animales isn't dead! It remains undead, of course, but High Voltage is actually planning on releasing it -- on a disc! High Voltage scrapped plans to deliver the game via WiiWare when it became apparent that it wouldn't fit in the 40mb limit set for WiiWare games, due to its "focus on comedy and its accompanying large quantity of audio".

Ok, so 'The Conduit' has gone from my 'Most Anticipated Game' to falling off of my 'To Buy' list completely. No local multiplayer? I know a lot of people that are going to be heart-broken when this news hits. Wow...

No local multiplayer? That really sucks.

Nintendowiifanboy, please communicate if you can at all with the Conduit developers that the gaming core that they say they are trying to meet the needs of... let them know we (the casual and the "fanboy") want local multiplayer.
I think that is a universal want here, not just a bunch of fanboys begging; considering the wii is used primarily for local multiplayer and shines at it... it doesn't make much sense to not be included.

(facepalm) Why is it such a big deal with local multiplayer? People complain about Wii games lacking online components, now we are griping about lack of local multiplayer. Make up your (censored) mind!

Sorry for the double post/rant, but more I think about it; I am glad Animales is going retail.

...because the group that was defending local multiplayer for many other games are now complaining.
Now the group that was complaining about online multiplayer for many other games are now jumping for joy.
Myself? Saddened that it has no local multiplayer, but I'm still gettin' it.
I guess I have to get 2 copies of it now (gf's Wii). *sigh*

We want online multiplayer, but not at the expense of local multiplayer.

@ atlantis - the only reason people are complaining is because local multiplayer is pretty standard mode...since the atari.
on another note - I am not too excited for animales de muerta being pushed to a disc.
if the game was only going to be on the cusp of wiiware size they are going to have to add ALOT to fill a dvd. hopefully that means online play! or and if they don't fill the disc it better be 30 bucks.

Yes, it is standard...in the 80s and 90s! >.>
The only reason split-screen even exist is the lack of online with console games back in the times of the N64 and earlier. Now that consoles are going online; no need for it. Take it from a retro gamer, that is one thing that really should die off with the Do-do bird, not beat-em-ups (totally unrelated).

No, atlantis, it's not so much the standard that we're complaining about - we just expected it from the game since it's from Nintendo - but what we're really peeved about is that not every one of us has a friend who has a Wii.
Most times, friends just go over to their friend's house to play on the Wii, whether it be for financial problems or for the sake of being embarrassed to get one for themselves.
And a game like the Conduit, something you can show off to your friends and have a blast on multiplayer - NOT having local. Kills a lot of times they could play the game with their friends.

I don't know anybody that meets all of the following criteria:
1. Owns a Wii.
2. Lives nearby.
3. Gives a **** about The Conduit.
I guess I never considered local multiplayer to be a selling point at all.

Animales always looked Just Plain Stupid to me. Cartoon zoo hyperviolence has promise, but I don't see it in that title.
On Conduit, I have to agree that I really couldn't care less. Especially if that means they're able to add to the online portion, or squeeze more power out the Wii. Most of my friends travel a lot at best; having online anything (although I'd especially like to see online co-op) is a far bigger deal to me.
To the previous poster, the price you're looking for is "10-15 dollars"; same as it would've been on WiiWare. There's no reason a game's price should double just because it gets put on a piece of plastic. In fact, the PS2 had a little-known but very fun game that released at $10, which was very obviously cheaply produced (it could pass for a PS1 game), but which was very much fun, and worth it. Actually, it was from a series of such budget titles in Japan, called Simple 2000, although most of them haven't been localized.

Like i have a whole lot of friends that live near by and want to play The Conduit on same screen
I mean, i only have 1 friend who loves the Wii, lives near by, but hates all kind of FPS, even on the Wii. He wouldn't try anything like Red Steel, Quantum of The Conduit, but loves more like RE4 plays for him. Even though those are pretty similiar. So he is not pumped for The Conduit
No local multiplayer? Puff, i hate spli screen on FPS, I can see where my opponents are and go direct to him, or they can see me comming and anticipate me. While in on-line, wheel, ITS PERFECT!!!!!!
That was one thing I hated of multiplayer on GoldenEye,Perfect Dark and Turok 2

Animales seems to be a refreshing, different game. Looks promissing. All in all, we can't complain about diversity on Wii titles this year.
Will certainy give a try on lit when recovering my funds for such luxuries, in later march, if things go well.

Local multiplayer is infinitely more fun than online multiplayer, even with splitscreen. But at the same time, I don't know how well split screen would work with a pointer. But then again, they said they might put it in The Conduit 2, so they must have some kind of idea for it.
Blurgh.

It works perfectly fine, it's in Red Steel and another FPS (QoS I think).

I've already e-mailed feedback@high-voltage.com to let them know how I feel about it. They listen to feedback so if this is important to you, please e-mail them too. I'll still buy it out of support, but it's value diminishes dramatically without local multi-player for me, which is the only reason I own a Wii at all, I do my single-player/online gaming on my PC mostly.

Guys think about it, it'd be really hard to have everyone have their own screen which they have to point their controls at. That sounded better in my head but I hope you get my point that it makes sense that it can't have local multiplayer.

Not sure... because there's the Motion+.
I'd think that would transfer better on the screen than a regular IR pointer.
If something "as bad" (though I liked it) as Red Steel could do it "fairly-well" [for its time] (multiplayer, that is), then why couldn't something with Motion+ do it?

You know High Voltage is full of it point blank. They can't fit their good(?) game into the 40MB WiiWare limit so they shelved it. To that I call crap on the entire mess. I have no idea of the age or care factor of the average reader here, but Star Wars Rogue Squadron for example on N64 was in a 32MB sized file and had over an hour of recorded unique(non looped) audio put into it between music, sfx, and voices. So, why is it this little top down viewing splatterfest on WiiWare can't fit into the same general area +8MB? I call it lazy coding and making excuses. I know the racket well as I used to work for Midway and a common line is, blame some limitation or other reason and roll with it. I hope they wise up and just compress the audio and release it as I'd like to think they had a winner on their hands.

They're not shelving it, they're putting it on a disc.
