regarding the wireless connection, it is an amazing way to go. What I would recommend is buying a wireless adapter for the previous xbox on ebay or craigslist. that works just as well and you can get it for about $25.

BTW, i bought a previous xbox wireless adapter for $30 and the guys on ebay sent me an adapter for the xbox 360 instead. Savings of $70. it's worth a shot.

My hardrive won't play halo3... well it does but it takes soooooo long to load. I have no other problems with the other games, but the reason why I believe its a hardrive problem and not just the game, or xbox itself, is the fact that once i removed the hardrive the game loads normally.

Diamntes - Bungie has already said that the "Install to Hard Drive" feature of the new dash should *NOT* be used with Halo 3 as it caches its data already on the Hard Drive, so installing it just makes it have to load redundant data again, thus slowing it down much more over just running from disc. There are a few other games that behave this same way as well.

X3F already covered why Halo3 loads so slowly when installed to the harddrive. From what I remember they said that the game is programmed to stream to the harddrive from the disk, so when its installed to the harddrive it has to spin the disk up to read the data, then transfer the streaming information to another part of the harddrive and then start the cycle all over again. It has more to do with the way the game was built than it does with the console.

Did you install Halo 3 on your hard drive? It slows down loading.

Halo 3 is not meant to be played off the Hard Drive. It uses Hard drive caching which means the game disk is supposed to write and read off the hard drive to load as fast as possible. If the entire game is loading off the hard drive then it is pretty much reading, writing, reading off the same hard drive, which in the case of halo 3 is very slow. bungie directly says not to play halo 3 off your harddrive.

Yeah I've checked my harddrive and made very certain i have nothing downloaded onto it. I should still have about 8-10 gigs of free space and yet nothing. Anyone out there in fanboy world able to help me at all?

Check your "Delete suggestions" area. Memory>hard drive>then press x. If you try and download something and stop it half way through it will stay on your hardrive in it's full size as if it was fully downloaded. They have a caution symbol next to their name. You might have music you didn't know you had as well. They don't show a specific size so you never know.

This isn't the solution to end all solutions, but have you recently emptied your systems cache? Meaning all the times you download 'Updates' to games those 'Updates' stay in your cache and you don't need all of them. All you do is go to 'Memory' and click on your hard drive. Then it should give you an option to hit Y that says "Device Options". Then you have to hit X, X, LB, RB, X, X (note: I might be getting the bumpers mixed up so if that doesn't work try it the other way around). If you do it correctly a prompt comes up saying do you want to clear cache (more or less) hit OK and it'll do some cleaning and wala!!

That shouldn't clear up 8-10 gigs though, so I'm not sure what the deal is there. You sure you don't have any random tv shows not showing up? Maybe another profile on your 360 has stuff that the profile you're using now isn't able to show??? Try logging onto them and looking, it can't hurt. Good luck man.

In regards to the guy who has "missing space" on his 360 hard drive, I had the same issue... After I bought the 120gb drive and used the cabled to transfer my data to it, there was all kinds of demos, videos, etc. that were still on the 20gb drive, but were NOT in the lists (I was certain I deleted them long ago, and it didn't show in the list, but they were obviously still there after I did the transfer, as I had to delete them again). So, data on the 360 drive CAN become "phantom" after deletion it seems, and I honestly don't know of a way to recover said space other than a format of the drive after backing up anything you would want to keep... The unfortunate side of this, is not all save games can be backed up (without other means, such as ripping the data to a PC using third party software and cables) as they are "protected"... So, I am not sure of anything else we can do when this happens, but, for future reference it DOES happen, as it happened to me.

In regards to D Boy Flex, you can also find a much easier solution by going to your local Fry's Electronics (or searching online, ebay is another cheap route) and getting the Original XBOX WiFi Ethernet Bridge. It tends to sell at Fry's for $25-30, is 802.11b/g , and is completely compatible and configurable from the 360 itself just like the $100.00 Microsoft Official 360 one. So, if you don't need 802.11a, and don't mind having a little black box instead, go grab one as it is identical in every other aspect. (Not to mention, it can also be hacked with firmware from a D-Link version of it that supports other features, and still allows configuration from the dashboard.)

The price online seems higher than the in-store pricing, so I would check your local store first, or other places, but this shows what I was talking about for the MS XBOX WiFi Ethernet Bridge.

@D Boy Flex I have a linksys wrt54gl (linux version of the wrt54g...should work the same) and I had an old linksys wap54g I found in my closet.

Linksys routers support some sort of propriatary linked mode that I leverage by plugging the wap54g into my 360. I set it up so long ago I don't remember the configuration details other than I couldn't get WAP security to work (I'm using MAC filtering instead) but I know I eventually got it working.

Of course, if you went out and bought a wap54g, you might at well just shell out the cash for MSFT's wireless adapter. But if you can find a wap54g on the cheap, and your firmware is up to date on both devices its a working alternative to MSFT's adapter

The wireless bridge really isn't difficult to set up. I don't know what these guys are smoking, but I want some. Routers are pretty easy to work with, and any problem you have is just a google search away from resolution.

Can your grandma who thinks the internet disappeared when she deleted her IE shortcut do it? No, probably not. But if you can do things like build a computer, install an OS, read, use the potty, you should be fine.

DD-WRT has a full-featured wiki of its own, and Lifehacker has posted on this method several times.

Sorry to hear about your Grandma's problems.
Grandma can't setup network + anyone who can use a potty can setup network + anyone who can read can setup network = Grandma can't use potty or read. LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist.

@d boy flex.

IMO, you're far better off with getting homeplugs for networking an xbox (or anything where possible). All you'll need is 2 plugs (can pick them up at any decent electronics store for not too much) and an ethernet cable.

It promises faster connection speeds than wireless (normally 85Mbps as opposed to 56Mbps) and is far more stable. If you play games online its much better, if you download only then its not that important.

@Xbox.joystiq.
Please please answer my question on 3d gaming and the lack there of :D

Graeme Q - Just an fyi, HomePlug 1.0 is not the end-all answer for everyone. I just tried a set out (they have them on sale at Fry's for 24.99 each, so $50 for a pair) and they performed poorly on my apartments wiring, delivering speeds 1/4th of 802.11g with network interference... Yes, it could have been because they were cheap, but I am not willing to dish out 90-100$ for HomePlug when I was able to get an 802.11b/g/a/n router for 69.99 that lets me do wireless HD video just fine with no problems (With the official MS 360 network adaptor, which just an fyi, GameStop sells them used off and on when they get them in for $60ish, which is far more reasonable and why I got one instead of continuing to use the XBOX Orig. one I suggested to the other person, I now use it on my Orig. Halo XBOX :) ).

Figured I would also mention that the ones I tried were Airlink brand, 85mbps capable, HomePlug 1.0 compliant.

Microsoft wont fix E-74 error but if you wrap your xbox in a towel and run it till it gets
hot enought you'll get three red lights. They have to fix that. Hope this helps.
