Dante's Inferno preview reveals God of War style gameplay

The latest issue of British magazine PSM3 has a ten-page preview of EA's upcoming hell-em-up Dante's Inferno, which it calls "Dead Space meets God Of War in hell." CVG has pulled some interesting tidbits from the article, including a claim that "button-for-button the controls are identical to [God of War's]."In fact, Dante's Inferno sounds very similar to God of War in many ways. Health and mana orbs are dropped when enemies die and are also found in chests, which are "opened by holding Circle." The game also features QTEs and combos utilizing the protagonist's light and heavy attacks. Apparently, it's the subject matter that sets Dante's Inferno apart from God of War. It is "altogether more unpleasant," where "twisted creatures burst from doorways, lava spews from inverted crosses and bottomless fiery pits yawn deep beneath your feet."
If God of War III doesn't make it out this year, Dante's Inferno may be just the thing to tide action fans over. If GoW III does make it out in '09, however ... well, we're not expecting Dante to beat Kratos at his own game, are we? Check out the latest issue of PSM3 for the full preview.

But...but Hades (Hell) was the worst part of God of War! I'd rather have Dead Space meets God of War on a massive Colossus that is destroying an entire city omg boomsplosions!

I do agree that they should try to emulate, but this is different, they are pretty much trying to copy the formula.
The sad part is that EA is putting effort into their new games, but if this title is as similar as it is being rumored, then GoW3 will destroy it. Just like they are trying to make the atmosphere more unique, they should also give the gameplay mechanics their own spins.

Is this a PS3 exclusive? If not, it'll never be able to stand up to GoWIII in the visuals department. And that's gonna make it look like a cheap knock-off. The gameplay and story better be stellar!

To be honest, it's unlikely that GoW3 will be as amazing (as in "I can't believe this game is running on that console") as GoW2 was on the PS2. From what I've seen it's actually not looking too special.

Ehhh...to each his own.
My main point though was that it's pretty much accepted that if you only have to focus on developing your product for one console (like GoWIII), you can get more out of it and in the end have a better product. So, I doubt that a multi-pla "God of War-like" game would ever measure up to an ACTUAL God of War. Not that it's impossible, and EA has been pretty hot lately. But, so far, the God of War team has been spectacular!

Yeah, the first GoWIII footage we've seen wasn't that amazing (although the fact that it was running 1080p was pretty impressive). It has some really questionable textures, in particular.
Still! it's a work in progress, and has like a whole year before it comes out. Sony Santa Monica know their technical stuff, so I still trust them to really improve on it in that time.

Somebody already did emulate GoW properly... 4 years before GoW came out. It even had a main character named Dante, but no one seems to give two craps about that game...

Indeed, PSM3 do make it sound a hell of a lot like God of War. Which is a great thing in my opinion, as it means it will almost certainly be a buy, unless something goes drastically wrong.

If EA Redwood can do what they did for survival horror with Dead Space and bring that same enthusiasm and energy to a God of War type of game then I'll definitely be interested.
The 360 still doesn't have a really good God of War style game. With the exception of Conan.

This is Xbox Joystiq, Not PS3 Joystiq. Get this damn article off the page. Joystiq is gonna ruin what xbox360fanboy had. I wasn't real sure what was going to happen, but now that I see this article which seems to the eye to have more to do with PS than Xbox I am sure of it. Apparently this game is coming out for both consoles, but that is no where noted in the article. This writer is awful. I wish Dustin would have written this, then I would be able to comprehend its contents.

Next to the author's name it specifies the applicable consoles. It's from a Playstation magazine, which compares it to a Playstation game, so sure, it likely sounds more angled towards the PS3. That being said, relax yourself, or get lost. It's an anticipated game coming out for 2 of the 3 major consoles, and here's one of the first closer looks at the game. OH NOES IT CAME OUT ON THE MAIN JOYSTIQ PAGE. For crissakes....

Hence why I said "Apparently this game is coming out for both consoles." I saw that it was next to the writers name, I think they should have lost the damn PS3 pic for this article on the 360 page. Now they have all these writers trying to write for the 3 individual pages and they are overlapping and repetitive. Richard, Dustin, and Xav all did a kickass job on their own. Now you got these PS and Nintendo Douches writing on the Xbox page. I think they should just stick with their forte. (now dont get me wrong I am not saying PS and Nintendo sucks. I am just saying the people who specialize in that should stay in that area.)

i'm gonna have to go with Tungsten Plug on this one. There was no mention of the 360, a pic of the playstation magazine, and GOW not referring to Gears of War. This may be an upcoming XBox title, but that wasn't stated here and i had to go elsewhere to find this info.
