Looks pretty good, although the landscape reminds me of Far Cry 2

No, that's not a good thing

Totally AWESOME! Dirt and Grid are two of the top three racers of this console generation (Burnout Paradise is the third if you were wondering). They have great controls and a sense of speed that is lacking in games like GT and Forza.

I can't wait to see how well Codemasters pull off the open world environment.

"They have great controls..."

LOL! While DiRT is somewhat fun as there's no alternative for it (except the even worse Sega Rally), GRID is pretty much the worst racing game EVER. I preordered that piece of cr*p and returned it 2 days later. Man, I was so looking forward to and so disappointed by it. Even PGR feels like a hardcore simulation compared to GRID. Whatever happens to FUEL, I just hope they don't mess up the F1 license by turning it into a shitty arcade racer.

@nook

What are you talking about, Grid was a great game. Yes, it was pretty arcadey, but that just means it wasn't what you were looking for. If you want something more realistic, check out Xpand Rally. It doesn't have licensed vehicles/parts, but the physics are much more realistic, and even your driver can take damage.

@Wired:

That's the point. It wasn't "pretty arcadey". That's actually what I (and some friends I love to race with) expected. PGR4 was Arcade and it was awesome. GRID was, handlingwise, closer to Mario Kart than to PGR4. It was simply ridiculous to drive the Formula cars with 200 mph through 90 degree corners. Seriously, anyone saying GRID was good must love the latest NFS.

To be honest i cant think of a single good game codemasters has ever made so im extremely skeptical right now. If it really is detailed etc. as the video it might be ok, but based upon codemasters history, this all looks highly suspect. Ill wait to see more before i judge it.

Im not trying to be a dick or anything but seriously, they have never made a single good game to me.

To me theyre just a company that takes crap ideas, half asses them through production, and releases them in large numbers so that they can throw out as many titles as they can, no matter how cheap and crappy, to keep a profit. Theyre like a failure attempt at EA except recently EA has been making some serious improvements.

P.S. that micro machine racers thing i think proves my point too :P

Dude....

Dizzy, Treasure island Dizzy, Fantasy World Dizzy, Magicland Dizzy, Spellbound Dizzy, Dizzy Prince of the Yolkfolk, Crystal Kingdom Dizzy...

And Rock Star Ate My Hamster.

Ok maybe they're not the newest titles in the world, but i don't see how anyone can knock a company with that kind of history.

Incidently, Fuel looks quite good to me. Will be keeping an eye on it.

You know I never thought about it before but now that you mention it I kinda agree. I can only name a single game from codemasters that I thought was Awesome and it hasn't been mentioned (No offense to the people who named other games I'm sure they're awesome but I either haven't played them, or they didn't stand out to me)

The game I thought is their best has somewhat of a cult following in New Zealand Jonah Lomu Rugby for the PSX. I doubt anyone outside of NZ has heard of it, and if they played it probably thought it sucked (the graphics are really bad and the game doesn't make much sense if you don't know what you're doing) Trust me though I have never played a game that I have taken so seriously in terms of winning and losing in my life. Sore hands guaranteed.

Apart from that though there are no notable games in my mind.

I hadn't heard about this one, but I love Burnout Paradise. The footage looks very pretty, but I'll wait out some reviews before thinking about picking it up. Could be pretty solid, based on what's in this trailer, though. I hope it kicks ass.

Either way Codemasters gets my money. They are doing it right.

I think Motorstorm 2 spoiled me with it's incredible track design that I don't think any open world off road racer can surpass. I mean c'mon, how can you beat racing down (or in) a river while jumping over waterfalls.

I know this sounds like an advertisement, but I can't praise Motorstorm2 enough. Anybody who even somewhat liked the first one, will enjoy the second one. They've gotten really good at giving you the "controlled chaos" feeling.

Right about when they realized that their tiny little tracks and small selection of vehicles just wasn't going to cut it.

Motostorm 2 is still by far my favourite off-road racer, no that does not include rallying, otherwise DiRT is my fave, but Motostorm was just presented well, had beautiful landscapes and almost made you want to race in those environments for real, 'almost' because I value my life too much.

WiredKnight - Hopefully you're talking about the first one and not the second one. Nothing tiny about the tracks in the second one.

@kodros

It was mostly a sarcastic comment to the OP.

But even so, MS2's tracks will be tiny compared to amount of ground this game will cover.

Dirt was awesome but the multiplayer ruined it. Grid I still play weekly and I absolutely love it. IMO Codemasters do a good job of balancing arcade and simulation. I have high hopes for this one.

I miss the Rallisport Challenge games...

Have Motorstorm, GT5P and BOP and WOHD...not sure this has enough to get me to buy another racer. Is there a 'story' to this (ie Smuggler's Run) or is it 'just' racing? BTW...whatever happened to the promised Rockstar PS3 exclusive...I'd take a smuggler's run HD thx.

I think I'll get DiRT for the PSP as my racer for this year.

There doesn't seem to be the insane sense of speed that some of the other above mentioned racers have. That could be a huge draw. Tornadoes though. Effing tornadoes.

If they can get rid of GRID's schizo handling (a little bit arcade but a little sprinkle of real physics= won't work with FFB steering wheel) and if they fix it enough so that I can drive with my G25 steering wheel- Midnight Club: LA works great with wheel- then I'm sold. Until then I'm hoping for a demo.

Not sure if I'm being overly picky but some of those environments seemed very sparse and big for big's sake. Myabe it was a draw distance thing or just early footage but there were a lot of times in that video when the horizon just seemed kinda blank :-/

Looks fun though, will def keep an eye on it.

I hated DiRT. I hated GRID even more because it felt like DiRT with road cars. I don't mind arcady, but their physics model really sucks. Compared to GRID, the Project Gotham games are damn near sims.

I'll try the demo to this game. Hopefully the physics are better. If they get the physics right it will be a very hard game to turn down.

Unfortunately, I doubt they'll get the physics right, and I'm very very worried about the F1 game. I love F1, but I will not play an F1 game that handles like DiRT.
