Game Crazy holding Street Fighter IV tournaments Feb. 20 [update]

There is no cost to enter and there is no pre-registration; competitors must be at least 13 years of age. There is also no limit on the number of participants allowed at each location, so these things could potentially go on for quite some time. We've asked Game Crazy to clarify which console it plans to use and whether players will be allowed to bring their own controllers (long shot, we know, but it's worth asking). The full list of venues can be found after the break.
Update 2: Game Crazy will be using the MadCatz 360 Arcade Fightstick for the tournament. Second place winner, as well as one randomly drawn participant, will also win those controllers at the end of the tournament.
Update: Questions regarding tournament console and controllers answered after the break.

Good thing this showed up on the internet already.
Practice. Practice. Practice.
MOT @ Feb 10th 2009 4:05PM
I'll be entering. I'll probably get my ass kicked, but I'm entering simply to play the game before I buy. I just want to get my hands on it.
Townbizz90 @ Feb 10th 2009 4:17PM
Hmm.. Don't love that far from Vallejo. Maybe I should go.
jygsaw @ Feb 10th 2009 10:09PM
I live in Vallejo. I don't love it that far either =\
But i'll probably be at the tourney.
butaneko @ Feb 10th 2009 4:17PM
Hm I didn't know Sleater Kinney was named after a road. The things you learn!
Lord Negatron @ Feb 10th 2009 4:28PM
Hmm, i foresee the longest fucking lines known to man...
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 10th 2009 4:44PM
And sweaty controllers as far as the eye can see.
juju187 @ Feb 10th 2009 4:43PM

Level 5 @ Feb 10th 2009 4:43PM
I'll be much too busy hammering it out online to go to a gamestop... lol just me.
shouryuuken @ Feb 10th 2009 8:15PM
gamecrazy. gamestop sucks
shouryuuken @ Feb 10th 2009 8:13PM
thats cool and all but it sucks since my store isnt having that tournament.. id love that.
Lochlan @ Feb 10th 2009 5:57PM
To keep it "fair" nobody will be able to use a joystick, like the game was intended to be played. Everyone will be equally handicapped.
What a joke.
Deadpool @ Feb 10th 2009 6:13PM
You can say that again. I'm not entering if I have to use the 360 controller. No offense to the 360 controller fans, it's a good controller but it just don't cut it for fighting games. Especially, 2-D fighters.
Deone @ Feb 10th 2009 6:52PM
I'm terrible at SF. I'm going to the one in Tulsa, because I live a few blocks from it, and Oklahoma isn't exactly the gaming or techie mecca of the world. So i may have a remote chance.
My PS3 is out of commision right now (the console in which I have the HD remix downloaded too) but I have the classic version of SF on the 360, so I guess I will put in a little practice time with the admittedly crappy controller (for fighting games).
After Gamestop caught so much flak online for this same blasphemy, I'm surprised Gamecrazy followed suit. Hmm, the men in dark suits and sunglasses from Microsoft, perhaps are behind this, knowing their controller sucks, thinking this may spurn sales. Beats me.

WTF? Palmdale? Hey GameCrazy, how about hosting this tournament in an area where people in Southern California actually live?
RoJOE @ Feb 10th 2009 7:30PM
unfortunately for me the Mollala, Oregon one is the only one for me. It's weird since that's in the middle of fucking nowhere and everyone hates those people.
I'll go and see what it's like.
Chinpo (Rurouni Kenshin Forever!) @ Feb 10th 2009 8:54PM
What the HELL happened to Fei Long!?
Jon D @ Feb 10th 2009 9:15PM
the Ferguson, MO store is 5 minutes from me. i just came from up there and they didn't even know they were hosting a tournament. lol. sucks that i gotta use that crappy 360 d-pad....blegh. hopefully they'll have tournament sticks. i might be able to work with that or the fightpads.
Biophazer242 @ Feb 11th 2009 12:31AM
I do not know what is more shocking about this story, that Gamecrazy is giving a $500 'cash' prize for this tournament or that they are still in business.
I worked for them when they had around 690 stores and were bought out by MovieGallery and lost quite a few locations. Store tournaments were constantly pushed and prizes were either free stuff from the game companies like posters or prizes paid for by managers or if you were lucky a DM that supported you. Mine was a good guy and did what he could but man what a difficult company to work for.
Of course free rentals from Hollywood Video and the demo stations were great benefits. That is the one truly great thing about gamecrazy, being able to really try any game out first before you buy it, that was nice.
shouryuuken @ Feb 11th 2009 2:23AM
actually.. gamecrazys doing alright. there'll be 1000 stores by next year.. most of those stores were closing im sure due to the terrible location hollywood had most of them... gamecrazy is breaking away from hollywood kuz hollywood is doing pretty badly.
SuMtOnE @ Feb 11th 2009 3:13AM
where is the love from Sacramento =(
winterofyuki @ Feb 11th 2009 4:02PM
Gamestop has a better tournament. The grand prize is one of 15 limited edition SF IV arcade cabinets.
The arcade cabinets aren't going to be distributed in the US.
Jon D @ Feb 11th 2009 6:28PM
yes, but do you really think you're going to beat Diego in the finals for that $15k cabinet? I mean, it's nice that you'll walk away with a tournament stick, but the odds of winning a $500 prize from just the store itself is much more fathomable than a SFIV cabinet in a NATIONAL tournament as well as a spot in EVO.
btw, those cabinets (as well as Tekken 6) aren't being distributed here because arcade gaming is on it's last limb here in the states. no one goes to arcades anymore, there aren't very many left, and let's face it: whose willing to take a risk of that magnitude on just ONE game? you could build a Tekken 6 or Street Fighter IV cabinet for half the price as long as you're getting the basic cabinet and an upgrade kit.
Dirt Rambis @ Feb 11th 2009 8:24PM
I think there is only one winner of the SF IV arcade cabinet, so you better be really good or you odds of winning anything at gamestop are nil.
c4_gutta @ Feb 22nd 2009 9:18PM
I won the one in Hammond... it was pretty cool. They made a loser's bracket towards the end cause there was an odd amount of people there. Meaning... if I had lost the last match, I would of came in second place... but the winner would of had at least one loss too. But it worked out at the end!
