Think you're pretty slick picking up an overpriced promo disc from eBay, don't you? Well then, you won't feel so smooth after reading this. Guerrilla says those promotional copies of Killzone 2 lack a vital component of the game: its online features. For those who can't do the math, that's half a game for four times the price. That equals ... not such a good deal after all.
If you want to play the game early, it's you might want to download the free demo from the European PlayStation Store instead. Just saying.

HAHAHAHA FTW.
I tend to get those "promo discs" from Ebay for my PSP (I know, I know) - I've been tempted by some for the PS3, only for cheapness rather than games that aren't out yet.
But i'm glad I've got my Killzone 2 Pre-order on the case, fingers crossed for a 1 day early delivery!

Just a small correction - the multilayer component IS there, its just that the servers will not be up until near launch day thus rendering that half obsolete

Not what I read on the boards:
"Once when the online servers go live, you WON'T be able to play online, at all. The promotional version is an alternative to the review version and let me remind you, there are different servers that apply each version. For instance, the servers for the review version do exist and are still live, the servers for the retail version do exist but aren't live until February 25th. And lastly, the servers for the promotional version DO NOT exist. In the promotional version, the 'WARZONE' option is there but the developers obviously find no real reason to waste their time removing it and instead they have added a simple error when you click it."

This man is indeed correct: I legitimately received a Press Kit (which includes a promo copy of the game) and the promo versions *ARE* the retail game version, minus game case and manual. The online servers are not yet up and running which is why there is no Online access yet.

Said by Guerrilla's Seb Downie:
"It is unclear whether this is a review build or something else. I can't tell from the pic if it is [the] final version or not. If not, you will at no point be able to play online with it. Also I am sure it says on the disc 'Not for resale' so this guy is breaking the rules,"
Promo copies of the game (i.e, the discs with the white and maroon coloured text on the top) are final versions of the game and are only printed after the Master copy has gone Gold (ready for manufacture for retail.)
So promo copies WILL be able to have access to online play.

That picture is genius.Anyways, i'm sort of glad that people who have it early don't have the online. It seemed a little unfair that all of these people had it early.

that's a huge difference. The article suggests the discs will never work online.
If it's just that they won't work online until launch, then it's like - no shit.

Just so you guys know, Torgo from PSNation got 100 demo codes from Sony and has only given away 60 of them so far. Anyone who wants one will have to go to VGEvo.com and sign up to post the forum where he is giving them away. He will be giving the rest away tonight.

I have never really been interested in getting a promo copy. Still if a promo copy means no online I would be more likely to try and get one.
I am not getting KZ2 at all but if I were I would want the promo copy since it has no online component.

Why? As in why am I not getting KZ2?
I am not a huge FPS fan. If I were to buy an FPS I would get Resistance 2 since I like insomniac.
If by Why you mean why get a copy with no online . . . because I hate online and anything related to online.
If I could buy a PS3 with no online I would buy one. . .

good, those assholes who bought the game early and paid double for it deserve to be banned from PSN all together.
Posted: Feb 10th 2009 1:13PM (Unverified) said
They deserve to be banned? Are you crazy?
They are doing nothing wrong whatsoever, breaking no laws or rules, and are 100% normal good people.
Those who are violating an agreement by selling this stuff deserve to be punished in some way, and if these buyers are getting a copy that doesn't include online then they shouldn't get to play online, but it's not like these are evil people pirating games. These are just fans who want it early.

Damn, I thought you were talking about pre-ordered copies. But thankfully, that's not the case.

The street date has been broken in Middle East and the official distributor is releasing copies of game two weeks early in India to prevent grey market copies from flooding the market.

You do know pirates have yet to find a way to pirate PS3 games right? There can't be grey market copies since none exist

By Grey Market copies I mean used original disks, already played by people and resold at cheap rates. There are reports of leaked copies in Kuwait etc. and once people play them, they are bought back and imported by sellers in other countries to be sold again.
