Solid Game Design: Making the 'Impossible' Possible.

Turning a game into a movie?

"The presentation is scheduled for an hour, but given the designer's inability to edit, don't be surprised if it lasts 8 hours, with two 90-minute cutscenes and a couple of codec conversations included."

Har Har ...

Moving right along ... MGS 4 was an epic masterpiece in every sense of the word and I would love for him to expound a little further about the dichotomy between Snake and Liquid (Ocelot). Through subversion Liquid was able to make the Patriots puppett (Snake) do his work for him. I'm still a little torn when I think of who sacraficed more in the long run and who the real hero was. Was it the mastermind that was able set forth a plan to disarm and dismantle the controlling shadow forces of the world or is it the eternal soldier who always did what he though was best for his country that unwillingly did the bidding of evil but who always had the best interest of his nation at the forefront of his mind.

It kind of reminds me a little bit about the new season of 24 and doing what is necessary for the benefit of your country. Sadly it also gives me chilling reminders about the war on terror from a group of "terrorist" (relative term) that our government put in power to fight a proxy war against Russia. Like how our own government flooded our country with drugs to illegally fund the post vietnam wars. What's good and what's bad is always relative to what side of the conflict your allegences truly lay.

The most important message I was able to take away from the Metal gear saga as a whole and from MGS 4 in part is that war is a business. If you can initiate a conflict and through proxies arm both sides of the conflict you stand to see the most benefit regardless of the outcome. Another theme I was able to take away from the social commentary made by Kojima is that the benefactors of war are never the people who the war's behalf is being fought for. I didn't need Kojima to tell me any of this but he was able to get his point across in such a powerful way that you would have to be blind or ignorant to miss it.

I'm sure a lot of people didn't think critically about the moral delima and the overarching themes that played out in the Metal Gear Saga. However, there are some of us that understood the message that was being conveyed. The series really deserves to be preserved as one of the best and most important in gaming history. The only other game this generation that has made me think as much as MGS 4 was Bioshock. I like a game that doesn't spoon feed me and force the story down my throat. Sometimes you come across something that requires you to actually use your brain and Metal Gear is one of them.

So no offense that you just tried to offend me.

If you don't want to read it skip over it.

In case you didn't know this is MY OWN BLOG. It's ALL OF OUR BLOG because we are the community that reads the articles and then engages in conversation. Thats the point of a blog. If you just want news go to a news site. A blog is where the blog contributors give their punditry (usually misunderstood as bias) and we the community weigh in on the topic.

If there was no interaction what would be the point of having a community full of people!?!?!?

If Joystiq wanted a word limit for comments they would institute it. If you think it's to long or you don't care for what I have to say it's easy to simply ignore it.

Fun Fact: Clicking the ! (report) icon now makes the comment disappear.

Chako,

Did you purposely not read my reply because you did a damn fine job of completely misinterpreting every thing I wrote. You don't even make sense.

May I present Exhibit A

you replied...
No, it's Joystiq's blog. Do YOU pay for domain name? Because if YOU did, then it would be YOUR blog.

Being a commentator does not make you a "blog contributor".
That is like saying the people that mail in letters to published magazine makes them a editorial contrubuter.
It doesn't work like that.

"It would easier to ignore if you didn't post a essay on Metal Gear Solid 4, and how it relates to a fucking television show.
Like I said, GET YOUR OWN GODDAMN BLOG."

So your saying it's more difficult to ignore my post because it's long and compared MGS 4 to (a "fucking" tv show) 24. All I'm going to say on that is you can click the ! (exclamation/report comment) button to make the comment completely disappear until you post again. It takes the same minimal amount of effort to skip long posts as well as short posts.

Fucking Jackass."

I wouldn't expect anything else from you than the comment you just posted. Besides, I even mentioned Bioshock as the other game this generation that gave important dialogue in social commentary and my love of MGS 4 is far beyond any individual console. The majority of us don't live in such a fragmented world that judges everyone by console preferences. Hell I had a at 360 since launch and the other four consoles. I prefer the PS3 but I haven't let that get in the way of broadening my gaming horizons on all of the other platforms and it hasn't stopped me from playing any game I choose.

Be careful taking the Lords name in vein like that.

Thankfully it hasn't happened in a while, though. ^_^

Is it safe to say we'll see a "Director's Cut" of MGS4 like we did with 2 and 3? Maybe it won't be announced now but maybe we will see it by years end?

I kind of doubt that we will see a re-release of MGS 4 with added content. If I had to bet we could see a standalone version of Metal Gear Online for the 360 with all the DLC on the disc. I'm not ruling a port of MGS 4 out to the 360 but I have the feeling Kojima want's to get away from the Metal Gear Universe and collaborate on a game with either Jade Raymond or Itagki. He has a lot of respect for both of them and I could see some sort of an evil brainchild collaboration. I would say if we didn't see that it will probably be a Zone Of The Enders Title for the PSP or DS. This is all my precision guesswork by the way.

He wanted to take a break from MGS from what i remember, so it is obvious.

He is going to call Itagaki out of hiding, and challenge him in a duel to the death. Doesn't take bottle rocket scientist to figure that one out.

The keynote will actually be a masterfully crafted simulation. At the end Kojima will start flipping out saying crap about the purple stuffed worm in flap jaw space. You'll see.

You wasted energy to be angry and bitter towards my comments. Again, it's as easy as clicking the ! button or simply ignoring my posts. The sad thing is that you actually wasted time counting how many posts I made and reading all of them when you don't care what I have to say. You need to grow up and like an adult.

To answer your question directly no it's not excessive. When Joystiq institutes rules against word counts and number of posts in a given thread then it will be deemed excessive. Deal with it or go cry to someone who cares.
