Rumor: DS Lite Onyx gets discontinued

It's pretty tough to be edgy and goth when so many people use you to pretend to pet dogs, but the Onyx DS Lite model has done its best to pull it off. Now, sadly, the black sheep of the DS Lite family is moving on to receive its greater reward, having been discontinued by Nintendo, according to a supposed Gamestop newsletter.

Does that mean those of you who missed out will never own a jet black DS? No, of course not. You can just expect to pay more for one that has a couple of cameras attached.

Good lord, is it just me or is Justin McElroy paid under the table by anti-Nintendo militias? All of his Nintendo-based articles are so slammed with forced hate it's laughable.

I got the onyx because the store hadn't got the crimson one in yet. And I didn't want pink or white. It dioes get smudgey. But the shell itself is so tacky and weird feeling that I try to avoid touching it directly anyway. I'm going to get a skin.

I'm surprised they are discontinuing such a basic color.

I have no use for the DSi extra features so I probably won't bother with it. I guess it's because I don't really care about listening to much music or taking pictures of stuff.

I just bought an Onyx Lite for myself last month because my white one's shoulder buttons stopped working. So...yay?

The black one isn't anywhere near as aesthetically pleasing as I thought it would be anyway; time to sell this bad boy for double the price I bought it for and get myself a pink Lite. YEEHAW.

The R-shoulder button on my Onyx lite stopped working a few weeks ago...then I bashed it against a table a couple of times and it now works fine :D

Ha; yeah I don't know, I tried bashing the buttons a bit, and the R one would work once in a while but the L was just completely dead. At the time I was playing Chrono Trigger and I couldn't hit the switch in 2300 AD so I basically bought the Onyx Lite just for that. And now all I've been playing is Soul Bubbles, so yeah, maybe I didn't need an entirely new DS after all; oh well~

I like the black DS Lite. It offers less distraction from the game, and it looks nice n shiny (when it isn't smudged from finger marks).

When is it EVER not smudged from finger marks?

This is true. We got the email last week. I don't remember the date it set out but I assume there just won't be any more sent to stores.

I love my black DS though. I'm glad I'll have a discontinued model now.

I had a white and a black DS Lite, and sold both to a cousin... 100 dlls each. They were in perfect condition: I always keep the packages and receipts... everything looked like new.

I sold them because I wanted a silver one (I like it because the fingerprints doesnt look too much as with the black one)... but the one I like the best is the metallic pink that I bought. Yes, that's the one that's is mine. Really, it doesn't look girly. The color looks kinda like purple... it's pretty awesome.

I also have the golden Zelda DS Lite... but I don't use that one. It's like a collectable only.

why do you use the term "dlls?" if you say its to save time, wouldn't it be easier to use the dollar symbol? $

1 was more than enough for me, and I really haven't played much portable games (on my PSP or DS) ever since I bought my 360 and PS3.

i work for a gamestop and we were told to remove all signage after selling through our quantities of the onyx ds lite. at the time we didn't have any onyx lites in, so we took down our signs right away.

Maybe they are discontinuing the Onyx DS Lite because the PSP has a Piano black model... That sucks cause I really thought the Onyx version was the best looking.

JUST BLOW INTO THE L/R button to clean it out. It's simple, its free, and it works. I did it on my DSlite.

I pity the fool who sold DS because of such a stupid easy fixable problem.

Anyway it makes no sense to discontinue the black DS it looks so damn cool

That's great, it's been awhile since I've blown into a Nintendo.

Panics....... runs out and immediately starts buying DS Lites to stock-pile them up for the future.... DSi is ok, but this system is definitely the one I think endures the best... not ready to let go the GBA library for downloadable mini games.......

Onyx? Do they make these with contrasting innards yet? Sour Apple when shut, Burnt Toast when open?

polar white DS Lite says "Hi"

I'm very happy with my Black DS lite.

The mic broke -- ironically enough, I think it was my turtle beach headset that shorted it out...

I'm glad I got one at a GameStop last month before they were discontinued.

i might have to get one soon then, my white lite has a non-functioning mic, so i can't complete guitar duels in GHOT, and i have no L-button anymore, i wanted a black one, but all they had was white, maybe my EZ3-in-1 will match finally

The L and R trigger buttons on my onyx DS also started malfunctioning.
Fixed the R using the blowing trick, but with the L that only worked for a while.

I can handle a soldering iron, so I bought replacement switches online, opened it up and replaced them. Now both triggers work flawlessly, plus they're harder and have a nicer feel than the original switches.

But now I have one more reason to hold on to my DS...

Wow, I should consider myself lucky for asking the Onyx DS Lite for my birthday gift last year.

I guess I'll hang on to this.

I have the Onyx lite, and will still get the new one with cameras DSi Shop applications a Music Player and more

Kind of cool, considering I have the Onyx DS. Of course I do sometimes wish I had a white one, just because it doesn't show fingerprints as much.

glad my onyx ds lite is still in great condition. i take care of mine. i also use a cloth to wipe off the fingerprints and smudges. im going to end up getting the dsi anyway

That really sucks, I'm glad I have an Onyx though. The speakers blew out not too long after I got it, even though I took good care of it. \: I don't really ever want to get the DSi.
