Crytek's past console experience has been nonexistent, and with the company doing away with PC exclusivity, it needs to get its feet wet in the console arena. Now that the company has acquired what is left of Free Radical, it can do just that.
"We always planned to enter the console market and it was part of our strategy even before the acquisition," said Cevat Yerli, president and CEO of Crytek. "This step will certainly bring us forward a bit faster to achieve our goal to develop high quality games on consoles." Before you start getting excited for a console port of Crysis or something, know that Crytek has not revealed any projects yet, though we could be hearing about something sooner rather than later. Employees there are set to begin work on a major project soon, Yerli confirmed.

I had played Crysis in DX9 mode for a long while and it looked quite decent in medium on a Geforce 7900GT and High on an HD4850. But I've recently got to try it out in Very High mode in DX10 with a GTX 285 and there is a nice difference. The added motion blur effects add a lot to the game and the cutscenes now are quite impressive to watch. Unfortunately, there is a nice FPS drop from DX9 to DX10 but for me, its worth it actually. Too bad it still doesn't look as good as the intro movie in the game. : )

I wouldn't be surprised if their first game comes out on the next gen of consoles as opposed to this generation we're currently in. Unless they do a rush job and they don't seem like that kind of developer.

The title seems misleading, I thought it meant that Crytek was developing it's own console. Even the article itself makes it sound like that's what they're doing.

Not too much caring for Crysis on PS360 since I have Crysis & Crysis Warhead on PC, but it would be nice to see what they cook up over the next year or so. because they were talking about NEXT Gen Specs and we all know thats 5-6 years away.

maybe. but I'm just taking into account that with things the way they are we KNOW Sony doesn't have the resources to Devote to PS4(Even IF it uses the Cell still), MS is making TOO much off the 360 to want to kill that anytime soon, and hell Nintendo will print money off the Wii until their sales dip below 15 Million a year and we all know that wont happen anytime soon.
And what the hell got me voted down this time? is it because I have a PC that can play Crysis?? or Because I said 5-6 years for next gen consoles??? or maybe its just people hating on my still, lol

lol, hell I have a 360 now. Got Tired of Waiting to hear if Fable 2 & Gears 2 were going to be on PC or not, those are 2 very good games that I dont want to miss out on so how they they fault me for getting a 360?? still going to buy my Multi-platgorm games on PS3 because after my Free month of Gold is up I wont be playing anything online via 360 for a while
and the XBox fanboys can kiss my ass. lol

I'm not sure Crytek has any console experience. It was Ubisoft, the guys that published Far Cry on PC that developed and published Far Cry for the Xbox, 360 and Wii.
No offense to console gamers, I really hope that future Crysis games will not be console ports to the PC, I hope they develop different versions for the consoles and PC. F.E.A.R 2 was designed for consoles and ported to PC whereas it was vice versa for the original game to the 360, you can see it was simplified and a bit dumbed down.

This is one of the reasons I am actually avoiding F.E.A.R. 2. I loved the first on the PC when it came out in October 2005, but playing the demo really showed they were catering to a different crowd. They shouldn't have removed the ability to peak around corners, and the fact that the game forced you into a 16:9 aspect ratio all the time was annoying for me as my monitor is 1920x1200. They also simplified some of their parallax mapping effects, particle effects, volumetric dust/smoke and volumetric lights. The first game on the PC toyed around with the idea of dynamic soft shadows, and it's a shame to see the sequel did not build off of that with an improved lighting engine.

Yep, I loved the original FEAR and even liked the expansions and so was waiting anxiously for the sequel, would have probably bought it on day one. But after playing the PC demo and seeing how its catered towards the console crowd and also not really following the story of the original, not playing as the Point Man, etc. I'm gonna wait until its $20 or below. : (

Well, Fear 2 didn't cut the mustard by console standards either. Look at the scores.
Can't blame consoles the bad design choices in FEAR 2, especially since the original FEAR didn't do anything that couldn't be done on a console as well.
Blame the developers for not thinking outside of the box.
