Americans should just refrain from posting anything about football, it always comes off as sounding dumb.

Why? We are the first to point out that American Football is shit. Personally, I think both sports are boring as hell to watch.

This is why Rugby League (different from normal rugby) is the sport to watch:

Would now be a bad time to point out our women play the best soccer in the world? ...Year after year after year after year...

It's always a bad time to comment on women's soccer...since nobody cares

I generally hate playing sports games. Haven't touched a traditional sports game for any significant length of time since the SNES / Mega Drive days, and the only football games I've played were Rockman Soccer and SWOS.

After all the hype, I finally downloaded the FIFA 09 demo, and was genuinely floored by it. We ended up buying it. Really great game, not surprised to see those numbers for people playing online. It's about damn time sports games became more than two player affairs.

I thought the Nintendo 64 NFL games like NFL Quarterback Club '98 were great fun. We don't at all follow the NFL here in Australia, but that game was incredible (as was NBA: Hangtime).

The people in England are just as fanatic about their brand of football as the fans of the American legacy teams (read: Steelers, Eagles, Packers, etc) are about theirs. So it is really no surprise that both markets generate a lot of sales for EA.

That said, since being here in England, I've watched a number of NFL games with Britons that were just as excited about the games as I was..or perhaps more so (although I of course was the recipient of numerous pot-shots when I turned the TV to the NFL)

PES 2008 for the Wii is the definitive sports game experience, controls and champion's road is highly addicting. I've been coming back for more even months after I bought it. Anyone who's put more than an hour in the game knows just how new and perfect the controls work. Sadly, it hasn't been selling well here in the US, so there's hardly ever anyone online to compete against. Hopefully PES 2009 for the Wii will get the respect it deserves.

I remember reading the best selling list on december in Brazil of one of our leading virtual stores... more than half of the top 20 were versions of Winning Eleven and FIFA... including every plataform, 08 and 09 versions, with and without gifts, like a Barcelona hat.

Be a Pro 10 v 10 matches online are really fun -- it certainly has me playing a lot more online, with varying levels of competence.

Almost as good as real soccer!

True that! I'll certainly be watching both games.

I'm not to worried about the US not qualifying. I do always love the opportunity to take the arrogant cheaters from Mexico down a peg though.

Its a good game but I wish they would fix the stupid online system where you have to wait for a match to start. They should only give you 30 seconds after choosing a team before you are forced into "ready" mode (and if you take too long to pick a team it picks one for you). The way it is now you have to wait 5-10 minutes which is ridiculous, all because of people not hitting ready. Online be-a-pro matches are really fun but the waiting is just brutal, you wait longer than you actually play.

There also needs to be a way for the game "captain" to designate a league of teams to choose from so every game isnt some random team vs Manchester Utd. It would be nice to be able to be able to play as some 3 star teams without some loser picking one of the best 5 star teams.

I have heard good things about 09. But I have 08, so is it really worth the upgrade? Though maybe if that many are playing online, it is.

Anyone have some insight for me by chance?

Personally I never really got into FIFA 08. I was a big fan of 07 but I felt like the gameplay tweaks in 08 made for a pretty frustrating experience and to be honest I dropped it without giving it much of a chance, eventually selling it when PES 2008 came out.

I think the Be A Pro Career and Be A Pro 10 v 10 online in FIFA 09 is certainly worth the price of admission. I was wrapped up enough in Be A Pro and Manager mode enough this year that I didn't even bother picking up my formerly beloved PES.

Fifa 09 is amazing...it is worth the upgrade imo. I play it so often online. I have probably played against the same person once without being their friend or using the rematch button so I am not surprised by those numbers.
