I also believe Eurogamer is retarted Hurr hurr durr.

(Funny but I had to be extra careful in typing "retarted" correctly because that's the punchline. Is that an oxymoron?)

Really Eurogamer 5.0? Unless the game after the first level gets in a glith-a-thon I don't see why the low score, the demo was fantastic.

Lately Euro..Okay I can't type that with a straight face for me Eurogamer kind of sucks in the review department, they have one reviewer that does its job properly and other guys that either didn't get what the game was about or are too elitist and this is coming from me.

I see the point they really didn’t did much with the level design I mean in the graphic department I think it looks almost as good as Killzone but 5.0 that’s the kind of review that a fan of the series gives to a sequel whenever they failed to live to the hype or expectative (See Ign infamous Neverwinter Nights 2 review) and I for one even if it’s a corridor FPS they did so many things right ,in fact as horror games go nowadays I believe F.E.A.R 2 demo was better than RE5 one.

Eurogamer's been trashing quite a few games inappropriately (by which i mean giving scores that were a low-end outlier of the aggregate)

Perhaps the flu's been going around Eurogamer offices?

Maybe you guys should quit jumping to conclusions and wait to actually play the game. Just because it's based on a good IP doesn't mean this one's going to be great.

I've played the demo, and I could see it going either way.

I always assumed a 5/10 from Eurogamer meant the game was average. Middle of the road, etc.

I might not agree with all the reviews they write, but their scoring systems makes more sense to me, when compared to a lot of other outlets.

Also, its spelled R E T A R D E D not "retarted".

If you were re-tarted. It would mean that you were at one point a small pastry, and then turned into an organism capable or reading and typing, and then turned back into a small pastry.

I totally agree with you. I wonder whose standards are low enough that this would register an 8/10. The demo was average at best and really did feel uninspired and rehashed. The mech scene looked like it was chosen to sell people on the game, like LOOK THERE'S A MECH SUIT AWESUMMMMM!!

I dont mind tough reviews. But Eurogamer is just so inconsistent. "this is so uninspired" holds true for GTA4 and Halo 3 as well, which are the same old gameplay as in previous verisons but both got 100. Also, they dont seem to appreciate the reason FEAR was good, its absolutely killer AI.
Quite impressed with PlayStation OM on the other hand, they are difficult to please but consistent and despite their name not soft on PS3 titles.

Then again in which direction you can take a Horror FPS? The formula works, they can only work in the immersion and story development.

Not sure why people are so shocked over Eurogamer's review. I like the criticism they usually bring to the table. Would a 5 out of 10 be average anyway? Perhaps Eurogamer is trying to break free of this primary school grading system.

Personally I was quite disappointed with the demo being a fan of FEAR 1 for the PC. Just didn't live up to the creepiness of the first game, most of the things in 2 are over the type poltergeist style moments like the lockers flying open, etc. It certainly isn't a bad game, but it doesn't stand out either.

I believe is more refined in this one.

"poltergeist style"

That's been there since FEAR 1 I recall chairs flying around and stuff. I personally liked the way the ghost attack you but I thought the damage they did to you was you know psychosomatic perhaps but no the damage is actually permanent unless you grab a medkit. It would’ve been better if it would have temporary and just for that section, it would have been one of those “WTH just happened” moments.

I can’t honestly say there are trying to break the scale here look at their reviews. If you are going to give 5.0 to FEAR 2 for not trying anything new well they shouldn’t have gave 100 to games like Halo 3 in the first place. You can’t simply (Walk into mordor) take the art critic position just like that is like they guys there had a multiple personality disorder.

“Hey Eurogamer what’s the opinion of your other half?”

Well I've never visited the site really but they sound like old shovelface Jeff Gertsmen when he worked at Gamestop. I've never seen more mindless bipolar fanboy ranting and personal attacks in professional reviews than in his. Obviously all his old reviews have been severely edited for his typical 3 pages of mindless inconsistent rants down to one or two paragraphs. Sure the man had great influence on how gaming media is handled today but he went off his rocker after he sold out to cnet.

I guess you may be right about FEAR 1 but I was creeped out several times in the first game and in 2 I just found myself laughing.

I just noticed several errors in my post. I would make good use of an edit button, moving on.

Well is just the demo and while I do agree FEAR 1 had plenty of WTF moment’s most of the time was more disturbing than scary. In FEAR 2 well the open lockers are truly a cliché but the effect is very well executed not scary but is very amusing. I think only Condemned managed to get scary WTF moments right until the sequel in which all the terror is abandoned by half of the game(Is compensated by a very well designed MP mode that is completely abandoned).

Now that the part where you fight the ghosts was; well that was new. I usually expect 1 ghost attack and then precede as normal not a whole bunch of them but then again by the 5th ghost it stop being new and exciting but it was original.

I say the demo was very good and manage to do many things well so I see my self buying it sometime in the future also at least it gets the terror part better executed than Dead Space. Dead Space was awesome but only if you play it on Impossible otherwise is pretty light and the terror moments are sub par sometimes they are good and sometimes they are pretty funny [Note: never use the Ren & Stimpy scream if you want to create a proper screamer].

The Giant Bomb part was free but to be honest their reviews are actually good too bad the page itself looks very amateurish. Say what you want but Jeff and Co were the only guys that reviewed games properly, the new GS staff is well they turned reviews that were more or less trust worthy into a copy of IGN.

Well, I don't know about Eurogamer's score, but I thought the first FEAR was vastly overrated and from what I've seen of this one is the same. The first game was a competent shooter, but I was bored silly half way through the game. The game just didn't work for me for some reason.

Is there anything Eurogamer doesn't hate?

They also have Killzone 2 a 7/10 (by far its lowest score thus far) and Halo Wars a 7/10 also. Which, okay, are average scores not bad ones, but they're still lower than you'd expect.

Have you seen the fan scores for Halo wars? It really makes me feel like the PC guy in that Eegra comic with the cupcake.

It seems I'm the only one that can appreciate the cupcake for what it is.Yeah is not as deep as any of the AoE games but considering is the friggin xbox we are talking about and the game had to be dumbed down for the Halo demographic or the X360 limitations (I was going to say I kid in the demographic part but to be honest I’m not quite sure) is a really good game.

Eurogamer also gives bad reviews just because I think they want to believe they are some sort of critiques more than reviewers but guess what guys as long as you keep giving 100 to every mega popular mainstream game you are just pretentious.

I thought the first one was pretty good, even though the ps3 port was pretty sloppy. If I wasn't counting down the days until Killzone was in my hands I wouldn't mind throwing 60 bones toward it. Maybe one day far from now when it drops in price. I just think they're releasing this game a little to late cause the bar is already set way above this game so it could never really be anything better than good.

I'm sort of disappointed with F.E.A.R. 2. After I played the demo, I expected the full version to be very creepy (not really scary). However, it's not and doesn't compare to the creepiness of the original. Not say it's a bad game by any means. I'm enjoying the game a lot. The multiplayer is decent. I wish you were able to set up your loadout in a different screen. It's irritating when you enter a room and try to readjust your loadout before the match starts and are not able to so. Maybe that's just me.

I've played the original and its two unofficial expansions on the PC, enjoyed them all. If the full game is like the demo I played, I'm waiting until its $20 or below. I'm disappointed that the PC version is a console port, whereas the original was designed for PCs and later ported to consoles. Your forced with 16:9 on the PC with black bars if not running a 16:9 resolution, same with Mirrors Edge.

Its also too bad you are not playing as the original Point Man, who had his slowmo powers as being the son of Alma. So now you just play as some Delta Force Operative, the guys who kept getting creamed in the original game?

Are the other members of the FEAR team from the original, Douglas Holiday, Rowdy Betters, Jin Sun-Kwon, etc. also not in the game as well? I bet we also never find out what happened to Jankowski from the original game earlier right?

I think they made so many changes because Monolith had lost the FEAR name to Vivendi but only recently got the name back but decided not to place the FEAR characters back in the sequel, thats too bad.

Enough bitching I guess.

I think people are taking Eurogamer's review the wrong way.

"DAHHH IT AM 5 YOU STOOPID! WTF!!!"

They seem to be genuinely angry at the lack of effort on the game's part. Maybe it's even a general bitterness at the general review culture's, as well as the gamer culture's, absolute love for lapping up rehashed crud with minimal effort.
"DANG DERE'S HEADSHOTS AND MULTIPLAYER THIS IS TIGHT, YO! GEARS OF WAR 10/10!"

I'm sure the game is fine. I enjoyed the demo.
But it was not unique, special, or anything like that.

It was a fun game.

Pong is also fun.

Pong is not worth more than a 5/10 either!

If it's a lot of fun then it is worth more than a 5/10 for me. I have a hard time believing every game must innovate the genre. So, in essence they scored it a 5/10 because it doesn't appeal to people who require the highest tech and most groundbreaking innovation with every release they buy (which is fools gold anyway and virtually guarantees more 5/10 scores to some really good games.)

I play games for fun, care little for headshots and care even less if the multiplayer contains 60 player skirmish or not.
