We normally don't give a lot of thought to what some of our favorite games would be like ... if they played like other games. The recent mashup video of Halo and Fallout 3s's V.A.T.S. system got us thinking, though. As if hearing our brains whirring, two YouTubers by the names of ChilledChaos and Rottentoenail have created a machinima exploring what Halo combat would be like in the Final Fantasy universe. (Hint: it's ... slow.)
Still, the video's a hoot -- and, we must say, very well executed. You can watch the full clip (it runs a little too long) after the break. Then we'd like to hear which games you think would be cool to see presented like other games.
I used to love J-rpg's.... before America started making good ones. Now i just wish we could implement our version of gameplay with some good old Japaneese story telling....
You mean the part of Japanese storytelling where young androgynous street urchin runs into runaway princess and embarks on a quest that spans the world to unlock ancient magic defeat the ultimate evil that is threatening the kingdom? Along they way they gain new allies, are betrayed by old friends, and learn the true value of love?
No, no... the blue shell would miss half the time, the banana peel would pwn everything, and it'd take 5 separate patches to finally make everything balanced. Not to mention it'd take YEARS to find 11 other racers! I just don't have the patience!
I actually used to (and still) think Halo would work pretty well as a Tactical RPG a la FF Tactics (to a degree), X-Com, or Rebelstar Tactical Command (if anyone actually played that one). Line of sight rules would apply. Shotguns would have area effect (dissipated over distance), as would grenades (some would get plasma stickies), there'd be sniper rifles, swords, and all that other good stuff. Throw in some move abilities like a wall run for gaps, slides for getting under walls, and maybe a rocket booster to specialize units.
Or NOT, since he's pretty much as agile as Faith even in his MJOLNIR suit, seeing as how he's genetically augmented (reading the first novel, check it out).
wow. now i want to play final fantasy. too bad i dont hav any of those games. cant wait for 13 for the 360!!!! and please dont give msft ideas like this.
