I will also give this one a try. It seems to be based off of the same concept that gave birth to Catan, though I really didn't care to see if it actually was the same company that made it. Interesting rules though I'm curious what the final product will look like.

I didn't care about Talisman when I heard that it had been canceled since I'd never played it. Well a few weeks ago, my wife's friends brought it (3rd Ed.) over and we play it almost every weekend. When playing it, I thought, "This would be a great game to play on XBL" and decided to look it up and found that it was being brought to the system. I then read the next story... CANCELED. :( Their reasoning? Nobody will want to play a board game for two hours online. WTF?

Talisman has a lot of downtime, low decisions, and is purely driven by theme. The game was canceled because it'd be a total bore in something like XBLA.

If you want a boardgame of fighting and looting, why not go with a more modern, interactive design, like Descent: Journeys in the Dark? It's still not my cup of tea, but at least it'd be a lot more fit for online play.

If two hours is too long for an online boardgame, Descent's 2-4 (realistically 3-6) would be far too much (unless you could save). But in any case, the rules for Descent unfortunately aren't hard-and-fast enough for a computer implementation, too much ambiguity, contradiction, and room for generous interpretation--check out the Fantasy Flight forums for some obsessive, sometimes heated rules discussions. Otherwise, I would love to see an virtual version of Descent, it would sure save a lot of set-up/takedown time. :P

Yes! I remember wanted Heroquest to be a video game in the worst way. Not long after that I discovered RPGs.

Well, it's really nothing like Hero Quest, it's more like an overly complex, fantasy themed chess game. Probably not the best comparison, but it's more strategy game than "RPG-lite" like Hero Quest.

@Gewurz: There is a Computer version of Hero Quest made by Gremlin, there was even an unreleased NES (or is it SNES?) port of it, but trust me, avoid it. It's horrible.

I just came in here to make the same comment. I think I still have Hero Quest around somewhere.

I've actually heard about a PC version, but I'm sure any video game version would simply disappoint. I've still got the board game with the two easier-to-find quest packs. Though, I'll probably have to convince my future children to try to play it with me. I'm sure plastic pieces and cardboard cut-outs will seem very quaint.

it's NOT heroquest, it's pretty abstract, the dungeon theme is semi-throw-on, but I've heard it's a fun (and very strategic) game nonetheless.

This is funny. I was just reminiscing over an old TSR board game called "Dungeon" and this comes along. Does anyone know if this is similar to the old TSR game? I've been looking for something like that to play with my kids and an XBLA version would be great.
Thanks

Ahh Dungeon. That's the one with the different colored areas that get harder right? I still play that with a friend once every couple of years. Fun game. That would probably work fairly well over XBLA.

That looks pretty interesting, actually. Board game remakes for more niche titles seem like a good way to go.

I don't see why people compare this game to Chess (other than it is strategic).

The goal is to move you characters across the boards to the other side first or eliminate the other players characters. You can do that my moving fast past the other player and avoiding them, or by engaging in battle and beating the snot out of them. Lots of special abilities make the game interesting. Items you find along the way can help. Different boards and characters keep the game fresh. Very enjoyable as a board game and I think it will translate fairly well to online play.

It's compared to chess because, regardless of it's theme, in the end it's an abstract strategy game, with simple game pieces, in which there's perfect information, but simultaneous combat resolution. Other than the card based combat, it remains similar enough to chess that people make a link between them, just like people compare Wallenstein to Risk.

This makes me very happy! I love Dungeon Twister. You each have eight characters with special abilities, and you are trying to have your characters escape the dungeon, and/or kill the other person’s characters. It is a strategy game with very little luck involved. I found this game about a year ago, and it made me fall in love with board games. I had not known that there were tons of new and fun board games like this out there (way better than Monopoly and the other old board games). There are a bunch more new board games I would love to see turned into XBLA games. Keep them coming.

Great news. Love the board game and the expansions.

I hope they make 3D models of the characters and add animation and effects, rather than just a straight board game translation, but I would still buy it regardless.

One important key to this game is that they simply HAVE to provide a turn timer. This game is a major gotcha for analysis paralysis.

I want a new multiplayer version of the old DARK TOWER board game!

This Dungeon Twister kind of looks like TSR's old DUNGEON! game.

Just 2 players? Seems odd they would make a 2-player game for XBLA when there are so many 3-6 player board games.
