Jaffe loves Indiana Jones, wants Lucas to toss him the whip

"There was, and will always remain until I get to do it, a desire to work with Indiana Jones in the interactive medium," Jaffe said in an interview with 1UP. "I would still to this day love to do that." Though not much more than a dream at this point, the designer has a plan hidden under his own fedora. "I have a great idea for how LucasArts could really take that property and do cool things with it, and if they're reading this, they should give us a call at Eat Sleep Play. We'd love to talk to them."
We'd just like to say that we're with you, Jaffe. Call up those LucasArts folks, demand a meeting and pitch your heart out. While you're at it, follow your dreams and go after the Metal Gear franchise too. We've got your back.

How can you beat Lego Indiana Jones?
Rambeaux @ Feb 12th 2009 9:54AM
Fate of Atlantis, maybe?

I would love to see a properly done Indiana Jones game with whip mechanics that don't suck. Hopefully Lucas Arts will either do something with the franchise or hire Jaffe and his folks to do it for them.
Off-topic Post, Part 2 - The Revenge:
Anti-Mac Joystiqers can rejoice, for after the robbery that left me Mac-less, I've decided to go back to PC (those Team Fortress 2 updates have left me jealous playing on my 360). Also, I've decided to build my own PC, so we'll see if it's everything it's cracked up to be. A few questions for those knowledgeable few:
1. While playing on PC, are there a lot of modded matches of Team Fortress 2 or do I have a decent number of normal, by-the-rules games or servers to choose from (I remember in Team Fortress Classic it was sometimes hard to find regular games, and I personally dislike modded versions).
2. Does the brand of chipset on the motherboard affect compatibility with anything else, like the CPU or RAM? In other words, do I need an Intel chipset if I have an Intel processor?
3. How do I know if I have enough cooling before I turn it on? Will it damage anything if I turn it on without having enough cooling?
Sidebuster @ Feb 12th 2009 10:02AM
1. I don't even know if I ever encountered modded matches when I played TF2. So you should be fine.
2. I assume if you buy a MOBO that has an intel chipset, it is a board made only for INTEL cpu's.
3. Just make sure the CPU has the fan and heatsink it came with (or a better one if you know what your doing) and maybe 1 fan in the back and 1 in the front. make sure the flow goes from front to back of the case and you should be good.
Sidebuster @ Feb 12th 2009 10:04AM
Oh yeah and if you need to monitor the cool in the beginning, do it in the BIOS menu (usually hitting the DEL key when you start up)
Mike @ Feb 12th 2009 10:12AM
AMD makes mobo chipsets for AMD processors, Intel makes mobo chipsets for Intel, and some other companies, like Nvidia and Via, make chipsets for both AMD and Intel processors. Just make sure the processor you want is compatible with the chipset of the the mobo you're buying, or vice versa, those things are always listed in product descriptions and are very easy to find.
Vidikron @ Feb 12th 2009 10:12AM
1) Not sure. I don't play TF2.
2) Not generally. Just pick out a motherboard from a reputable manufacturer that has the features you want. Whether that board has an Intel or Nvidia based chipset shouldn't make a different as far as RAM and the CPU go. There are sometimes differences though. I know that for LGA 775 CPU boards that Intel supports Crossfire (ATI's version of SLI) and the Nvidia supports SLI. But I believe this has changed on the newer LGA 1366 boards... you can get boards that do both.
3) Just make sure the CPU heatsink is seated properly and you should be good. Even if it's not the CPUs today have some protections against overheating. They can slow themselves down to reduce heat or will simply shut the computer down completely. There really not much risk of burning up your CPU these days.
Anam @ Feb 12th 2009 10:15AM
Thanks, Sidebuster. Just about a month back I encountered a game of Team Fortress 2 on 360 where everyone could jump really high and it appeared that some sort of one-hit kills rule was turned on. I starting thinking "oh crap, now it starts." Good to hear that the PC community isn't all mod-happy... or not yet at least.
I was looking at two motherboards for my PC, both had Socket 775, which is the right socket for the Intel CPU I wanted, but one had an Intel chipset and the other had nVidia or something. None of the PC building guides that I've looked at mentioned anything about the chipsets, so I guess it doesn't matter what brand?
Jerk Face @ Feb 12th 2009 10:17AM
Yes, there's plenty of modless TF2 servers.
As far as the processor / motherboard question: The most important thing to look for is that the socket type of the motherboard is the correct for the processor. Go to newegg.com and select the processor first, then select a motherboard with the correct socket type. From there you can print out your motherboard's specs and kind of work from there selecting the right RAM and then the right graphics card and then the right size case and fans if need be, etc. etc..

And thanks to Mike and Vidikron. Sounds like I have nothing to worry about.
Anam @ Feb 12th 2009 10:25AM
Actually, I was using TigerDirect. Is NewEgg better/cheaper?
Vidikron @ Feb 12th 2009 10:44AM
I personally think Newegg's site is generally much better that other sites for find and researchs parts. It's just laid out so well and they usually have lots of pictures of every item. But these days they are not always the cheapest (though they often are), so I'd recommend picking the parts you want and then shop around to find the best deals.
Vidikron @ Feb 12th 2009 10:45AM
Geeze... posting while working is doing horrible things to my spelling and grammar. That first sentence should read, "I personally think Newegg's site is generally much better than other sites for finding and researching parts."

If I can toss out a suggestion, Maximum PC (the magazine's website) has a great collection of articles detailing a good build/gaming build for certain budgets. Might be worth a look for you.
Anam @ Feb 12th 2009 12:36PM
I'll check that out. Thanks, P7 and everyone else.
Courtney @ Feb 12th 2009 12:59PM
For cost guides on building new PC's, Tom's Harware (www.tomshardware.com) also does articles on gaming builds ranging from $500 to $5000. I usually use them as a guide, then modify to my tastes/needs.
I vote for newegg, almost always use them. I find them to be very close in price, if they aren't the best, and the customer service there can't be beat.

Jaffe has been rivaling "Tourette's Guy" for years now, no sense in hiding it.

I suddenly have a vision of Jaffe locking himself in his room with a webcamera feed, demanding that Lucasarts give him the Indiana Jones license.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 12th 2009 11:34AM
Well for the quality of the games Lucas Arts have released lately I say LET the man have it!

Indiana Jones with a sex mini-game confirmed.

Oh no. Not short round!
AwesomeTown @ Feb 12th 2009 12:00PM
Indiana Jones always seemed like it was made for the Tomb Raider style action adventure, but with a couple of poor quality games it never seemed to work out. And if there is one person who I would love to try to make another, it would be Jaffe. I, sadly, just don't have faith in Lucasarts anymore.
godzillaWax @ Feb 12th 2009 12:03PM
What an amazing career for someone whose done next to nothing. He was so spectacular at guiding God of War that he wasn't asked to do either of the sequels. And since then? A middling arcade title no one played or enjoyed.
Why people continue to give this blowhard any airtime is one of life's great mysteries.
HenryJonesJr @ Feb 12th 2009 12:25PM
You have no clue what you're talking about. For one, he turned down the God of War sequels and two, he also did the "Twisted Metal" series of games. I'd love to know what you've done with your career if he's done "next to nothing".
godzillaWax @ Feb 12th 2009 1:27PM
You're right, he has been very successful at making games since he was forced off God of War. Oh wait, no he hasn't. All he's actually done is start a blog and act like an asshole. And while I may be an asshole, the difference between him and me is I don't go running around the internet asking people to kiss my ass.
Hyams @ Feb 12th 2009 1:34PM
He mentioned on neoGAF that he should be ready to reveal his next game at E3.
Hyams @ Feb 12th 2009 1:36PM
He's said on neoGAF that he should be ready to show his next game at E3, I believe.
Hyams @ Feb 12th 2009 1:36PM
(stupid comment system)
Vidikron @ Feb 12th 2009 5:07PM
You're an idiot. Creating two well known series like God of War and Twisted Metal is anything but "next to nothing". And since when does he go around asking people to kiss his ass? He maintains a blog and post his opinions on it. So what? Is't that what people do on blogs? It's not like he forces news outlets to post his comments.
Kodros @ Feb 12th 2009 6:54PM
He's only had 4 years since God of War came out. How many friggen games do you want him to make in that span of time? He made the PS2 port of Twisted Metal last year and Calling All Cars the year before that. Given that it takes 2 - 3 years to make a game from scratch and the fact that starting a game company isn't a quick and easy thing, I'd say that announcing a game at E3 would put him right on track with a normal development schedule.
Roto13 @ Feb 12th 2009 1:06PM
Leave my Indy alone. He doesn't need your stupid CGI sex scenes. He's a gentleman. His foursomes are private things.
Anam @ Feb 12th 2009 2:41PM
Ever been with a tree spirit?
Courtney @ Feb 12th 2009 1:10PM
The best thing LucasArts could do at this point is turn a couple of its franchises over to qualified people who are excited to work with the properties. Maybe something good would come from them.
Gemini Ace @ Feb 12th 2009 1:30PM
As long as it's not based on that abortion that was the 4th movie.
Discotheque @ Feb 12th 2009 3:53PM
Absolutely. I don't think they should make any more Indy movies aswell. Just leave the trilogy as it is. And lets all just forget about the 4th. I'm still happy with Indy since I performed a "Eternal Sunshine..." mindwipe of all memories over Indy 4 from my head.
And I'm fine with Jaffe making an Indy game. That would be cool. As long as he doesn't add alot of gore or threesome minigames (yes both things are awesome, but not for Indy) and sticks with old Indy rather than New.
Nicholas Sulikowski @ Feb 12th 2009 5:04PM
Augh, I will never ever ever understand the strong hatred of Crystal Skull. I liked it godammit. It may not have been the triumphant return of the franchise, or as good as Raiders or Last Crusade, but it's by no means a bad movie or even mediocre.
