The problem with all these "on-screen analog sticks" is that you get no feedback. You have to constantly keep an eye on your thumb to make sure you aren't sliding off.

But I say keep the iPhone games coming. Most of them manage to entertain you for the entire train ride, which is, after all, what they are made for.

I see you've never met the N-Gage, handheld gaming's retarded little brother.

All this "bringing hardcore gaming" to the iphone is just stupid. FPS games already don't work well on the PSP, which actually has an analog stick. The DS is the most similar portable platform to the PC as far as FPS controls go and even then the experience isn't that great. Who on earth would think it would actally be fun to play it with only touchscreen controls? It's a horrible idea.

I did realy enjoy playing through prey. Too bad the multiplayer was so laggy, it could've been fun if it worked.

What someone COULD do is make a rail shooter for the iPhone, that might work out pretty well.

There are already several FPS shooter games on the iphone. All work better than the PSP for me. Cube allows you to move the iphone just as your head does in real life and that works great for shooters. Silent hill has the same option but is a much more paced effort. Its that way because of the game dinamics but it still works well for a portable game.

The only PSP shooters that do well with me are the ones that let you move with the face buttons and look with the stick. So far the DS has done FPSs well and the Iphone is a clost second.

As for 'rail shooter' style, there is Time Crisis:

The reviewer didn't like it that much but a commenter on the post thought it was ok.

Somehow, I don't see myself playing FPS games on a tiny touchscreen.

I don't think porting a bad FPS to the iPhone would make it much better than on the PC.

Me too. The only thing I didn't like was being stolen of the possibility to die. It has been the most relaxing FPS I've played because of that. Nevertheless, it was a blast.

I played Prey on the PC. It gave me intense motion sickness, so I had to stop.

Fun game, though a little too easy.

That looks ridiculous, 1/3 of the screen is covered by the UI.

They are getting just as bad as the Wii, with all these gimicky games forcing you to use ridiculous control schemes.
