Dragon Quest IX delay may influence Final Fantasy XIII

It's unclear as to what form this "influence" will take and nothing more specific has been said. It could mean Final Fantasy XIII will be delayed in Japan, or it could mean that the game is actually brought forward in the US and Europe in order to increase the company's FY 2009 income and more quickly recoup their FY 2008 losses. Alternatively, it could mean the main character might wear a slightly different outfit now. We simply don't know.

uhh...so what does this have to do with xbox?
Verde @ Feb 13th 2009 5:27PM
Well FFXIII is coming out on the Xbox 360 and PS3 so I'd say it has a lot to do with the Xbox.
Anyway, I'd much rather have FFXIII sooner than DQIX...
Hyams @ Feb 13th 2009 5:28PM
Because ... FFXIII is on the 360?
ryan @ Feb 13th 2009 8:39PM
Might want to file this under Nintendo also while we're nicking picks here. Being that DQ9 is on a Nintendo system and all.
kompulsive @ Feb 13th 2009 5:25PM
Uh...what does this have to do with Xbox?
Joe @ Feb 13th 2009 6:58PM
Ok, Xbox _360_
There are you happy?
Jonman @ Feb 13th 2009 5:22PM
I've come around to accepting that FF13 will get here when it's good and ready, and not a moment sooner. I'm not happy about it, but it is what it is.
Let's face it, it's not like it was imminent anyway, was it?
trunks @ Feb 13th 2009 5:41PM
I agree with you, we will get FF13 when it is good to go and not a day before.
KillaRizzay @ Feb 13th 2009 5:26PM
Most useless post ever. this post's article may as well have been left blank as it says NOTHING anyways. Jem this isnt directed solely at you, I noticed joystiq in general does this alot...you know...posts news when there literally nothing to post...just sayin..
WRE @ Feb 13th 2009 5:28PM
Read you post and consider the word "irony". Also, do you know what "literally" means?
KillaRizzay @ Feb 13th 2009 5:58PM
Yes I know the meaning of both words thank you. Judging by the "what does this have to do with xbox" comment, im not the only one who thinks this is an irrelevant post. I could get nastier cause you sound like a giant douche, but I'll let it go cause your not worth the brain power I'd use to insult you
Levi @ Feb 13th 2009 6:00PM
There was speculation that FFXIII was being held back until Squeenix' 2010 fiscal year, so if DQ gets pushed back until then as well, they might try to bring FFXIII back to this fiscal year to increase profits and please investors. A company like this can't release all of their good games in one year, because they don't release games every month like EA, and they have to spread out their profits evenly to please investors and maintain stock prices.
In short, not at all a useless post, because there's quite a lot that this seemingly minor post could lead to.
WRE @ Feb 14th 2009 1:27AM
Did a guy named KillaRizzay just call ME a douche? Man, "irony" is kicking your ass all over the place today. Also, please learn the difference between "your" and "you're" before impugning the intelligence of someone else. That last one's free of charge.
Shadow31 @ Feb 14th 2009 1:22PM
...no YOU'RE useless!
aj @ Feb 13th 2009 5:27PM
Final Fantasy XIII will end up as a launch title for the next-next gen consoles.
The Playstation 4 and the Xbox 720 are going to rule so hard!
*this might be satire*
Hyams @ Feb 13th 2009 5:28PM
Funny thing is, FF13 started out as a PS2 game.
aj @ Feb 13th 2009 5:39PM
It makes me intensely curious to know what all this work is going toward.
Maybe SE have discovered some kind of key to unlocking the secrets of the universe and all wisdom, and are just trying to figure out how to make it more of a whiny anti-hero with improbable hair.
Hyams @ Feb 13th 2009 5:31PM
SE are afraid of making too much money in one go, because their next quarter report will show a massive drop in profit (back down to normal figures), so they don't want the two games releasing too close together. They want it all spread out.
Basically, FF13 may be delayed because of corporate bullshit.
Xta Large, Unfanboy Extraordinaire @ Feb 13th 2009 5:34PM
"corporate bullshit"
That's Square Enix for ya.
aj @ Feb 13th 2009 5:40PM
UP THE PUNX!!!11!!
Mr Khan @ Feb 13th 2009 5:46PM
change the word "quarter" in your post to the phrase "fiscal year" and you have the root of why some people have good cause to be alarmed by this, the possibility of a Japanese FFXIII in fiscal 2010 (so after March 2010), then extrapolate that to their general localization lag, and you have something rather scary
I just wonder what it will do to little ol' Dragon Quest X. Might come out after the Wii is replaced...
Copland @ Feb 13th 2009 9:22PM
Hyams, I think your absolutely right.
DQ IX was suppose to be released in the business year 2008.
And FF XIII on business year 2009.
But since DQ IX has been delayed to July (business year 2009),
there is a very high possibility that FFXIII would be delayed to business year 2010 for Japan.
BTW, I don't think it will effect the U.S and European release dates.
As a matter of fact, I think only the release date for the Japanese version will be delayed. I think S.E is going for a simultaneous worldwide release.
(This is just my guess though)
And if FFXIII gets a delay, it will definitely hurt alot for the PS3 market in Japan.
Because its like a major blockbuster title in Japan.
Its like God of War 3 for the U.S&European market.
vannyx @ Feb 14th 2009 12:24AM
FF13 was already delayed due to 360/microsoft bullshit. I dont care if the 360 gets it, but i want the ps3 version on time and unmessed with.
NewDust @ Feb 13th 2009 6:19PM
I hope they're bringing the release dated back, but as many of us I'm afraid, very afraid.
Kinsey @ Feb 13th 2009 6:48PM
I don't care that this game is multiplatform anymore but what bugs me is their gonna wait till the 360 version is finished before they'll release it on PS3. So that being said hopefully they wont wait and they'll just release the game when its done to its respective system.
LegendaryRedass @ Feb 13th 2009 8:07PM
Well if they would've decided to make it exclusivly for 360 we would already be playing. I'm sure the majority of multiplatform games take longer because the ps3 is more difficult to develop for. That's why Gabe Newell hates ps3, it took 6 extra months for the Orange Box to come out because of porting it for ps3. I'm not hating, I love ps3, I'd rather play FF on ps3 because I've always played the franchise on ps. It's just the cold hard truth. By the way, when's Gran Turismo 5 coming out?
mister_d @ Feb 13th 2009 9:47PM
Honestly, I couldn't care less when Final Fantasy XIII comes out. When it's done is good enough for me. I'm still more bothered by the fact Dragon Quest IX is a DS game and that the trend towards JRPGs being a primarily handheld focused genre. That's more worrying to me than Squenix corporate BS.
ZippyDSMlee @ Feb 13th 2009 10:28PM
Its not a DQ game though its a knock off with the DQ slapped name on it...like FF8 or X2 *hides*
kamiboy @ Feb 14th 2009 9:58AM
I call shenanigans on this whole delay thing. It is not possible to create a bug on the DS that would take 3 months to fix, ok, it is as simple as that.
Square-Enix is deliberately pushing this guranteed million seller into their next fiscal quarter for a reason. My guess would be that FFXIII is looking to be delayed and it would look mighty bad for Square to have nothing for the next fiscal quarter so they are reshuffling the release dates strategically.
I can't believe they would go ahead and lie about it instead just saying the plain truth, it must be a Japanese corporate tradition thing.
