The 500 dollar price tag is very misleading. They obviously didn't count computer equipment, the camera or editing software.

Point was, they got a lot of that stuff on favors from friends. The $500 cost is pretty much catering and transport.

He's right. The videos I shoot for my site have "no budget" yet the camera alone cost several thousand, not to mention the insane comp requirements for rendering at reasonable speeds, travel costs, etc.

The vid easily cost a couple Gs.

They like to make their games perfect (thanks Valve!).

Also, I'm downloading this just so I can play it on my 360 (my comp is crap).

I've been needing an excuse to play the Orange Box again (yes, despite Portal and TF2, both of which are fun, but I can't end my love affair with HL2 for some reason)

I feel very late, but I actually just snagged the Orange Box last night and it's pretty much amazing. Different than most FPS's, but in a good way.

I will donate money to see this become a 2-hour long film.

Valve, give these guys a budget to make some more viral marketing material.

Seriously, if that only cost $500 than that's absolutely incredible. It's cool either way, but that's some awesome production values for so little money. Check out the YouTube page and watch it in HD.

I was just thinking "I wish that the Sci-Fi channel would make an original series based on Half-Life." It would totally look like this.

Dude if Sci-fi made an original series on Half Life avoiding it would be the one thing you would want to do. All of their "original series" are god awful. Need I remind you of Mansquito? Yes, Mansquito. It's a real sci-fi channel event.

I will say though that BSG is the best show on TV.

Sounds a little cheesy. Bad acting and I didn't realize the combine made that long beeping sound everytime they died.

I guess I'd watch it though.

Hey asshats, I was the first in line to play the original Half-Life. I was excited about Half-Life before half the people in the world realized what hit them (the first game was a sleeper hit). I bought a new Creative sound card just to play the extended "Half-Life: Day One" extended demo a few months before the game was released. I played that demo over and over and over again and never grew tired of it. After launch I was involved in multiple forums, wrote multiple scripts for both the game and TFC and was very active in the "community." When HL2 came out, I literally downloaded and played it the minute it came out. I had camped out till 3am (midnight PST) for the release on Steam, I had downloaded the game in advance but was frustrated by an hour long wait for the simple authentication to download, finally at 4am or so I started playing and finished half the game before going to sleep. I have played all episodic content since and I'm eagerly awaiting Episode 3 to come out.

I'm a Half-Life NUT. Do not FUCK with me! I know more Half-Life than you can shake half this forum at, even going as far as stalking Gabe Newell on his personal ICQ account back at the release of HL1. I know Half-Life, and my only point was that out of a TV series based on the game I would expect better acting.

I know, with the high quality of the thing you'd think they'd ask someone to look over the dialog that's read a book in the last year.

It's amazing how a group manages to pull off a decent low-budget VG short, yet Hollywood pumps millions into a VG adaptation, and can only manage to produce crap.

@343 Guilty Fart

hahaha

I totally read that in the same voice Trey Parker uses on South Park for stuff like this. I.e. the episode where they made fun of Rob Schneider movies over and over again.

Rob Schneider is...a stapler!

It's great - much better than I expected.

It's got something that big-budget adaptations of video games tend not to have: a sense that it's a labour of love, and an great attention to detail. Unfortunately, what this small scale project ends up falling short on is any sort of acting skill.

I hate walking, okay? UGH.

It was alright for ammeter actors, though it seemed to be missing a lot of sound effects, and they made the mistake a LOT of internet directors make these days, which is not re-dubbing the actors. Pretty much all of the dialogue was inaudible, except for the fact that he hates walking, argh.

He has some valid points. I would guess the main reason most people don't do redubbing (including me) is time constraints.

I agree with the OP in that the sound design could use some polish. The acting could be better too (it actually made it a little difficult to watch), or if they were trying to act in a "calm and pressured way" at least rearrange some dialogue around so it sounds a bit more natural.

I was quite impressed by the visuals though. Great job incorporating CG assets and the ruined city in a believable way. Good costume design too.

A great first effort. I hope they improve the writing and acting though

Wow, that looked great. Reminds me when FMV was all the rage in the mid-late 90's, and they would pack them into the games. The dialog could have been better, though.
