Speaking to Eurogamer, Resident Evil 5 producer Masachika Kawata intimated that he'd like to see more of Resident Evil on Nintendo's waggling financial giant. Said Kawata, "Personally, I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family." He further stated that the team doesn't know what it would be, as it's been hard at work on Resident Evil 5, but asked gamers to "watch this space." Thus far, staring at our computer monitor has resulted in nothing but eyestrain.
Kawata also spoke briefly to concerns raised about Resident Evil 5's control scheme, saying that the team "reflected" on the control scheme for some time. While Kawata expects some may dislike the controls, he -- and the team -- believe it "does not reflect negatively on the game as a whole," but is instead "part of a forward-looking process." Kawata hopes that even those who dislike the controls will enjoy the overall product.

ridgecity, I'm wondering what 3D software packages do this insta LOD. main reason why I ask is because I've used SoftImage, 3D Studio Max, Mudbox, use Maya and Creator at work, and currently learning Zbrush and haven't found a single package that allows you to work in high level while keeping a low polygon model. I BELIEVE what you're talking about is the base mesh and the normal mapping baking mesh. Two dramatically different things and NO package has an easy way to reduce triangles.

I'd like a game built on the Resident Evil 4 engine for the Wii, a new adventure, not a remake, or a port. I don't need on rails shooters or resident evil lite Oh, and a girl lead would be nice too, I think one is due by this point.
Still though, if he's only talking about this now, it won't be here for years.
Sometimes it sucks to be in the know..

People keep talking about the WII and graphics, when are most gamers going to wake up and see that the game companies want the most money for the least bang. My Friend Bought Tatsunoko Vs Capcom it is a WII fighting game.
Much like the Marvel vs Capcom games Tatsunko is a animation company that pitted their heroes against Capcoms. So How did the graphics for that game stand up to any of the graphics from other WII games? MIND BLOWING. The graphics were Crisp beautiful and Fluid, of course the game won't come out here because that companies animes are licensed by so many different companies in the states. But the game crushes the myth the WII graphics can't be great.
Plain fact is Capcom more than Any company could make a ground up Resident evil or Any other game that Looked great and played great, but that isn't the easiest way to make money now is it.

Personally, it's not the graphical power of the wii that concerns me, it's the resolution. The wii can only output 480p, and on 1080p screens it just looks like crap. I wouldn't mind the same graphics, or even gamecube graphics, if it just rendered at a decent resolution so that the pixels weren't so stretched out. It looks ridiculous. All I want is a clear picture.

Personally I have no problem with the way Wii looks on my monitor (HD res). Maybe it depends on how your TV scales it - I have an external scaler, not a particularly expensive one or anything, and Wii games look fine. I mean, they certainly look soft compared to using my computer at the monitor's real resolution, but they're not that bad. Resolution-wise, it's only fractionally worse than watching a DVD, after all. Sure, Blu-ray looks a lot nicer but DVDs aren't bad.
Note this should not be taken as me saying I wouldn't like better graphics - I would. If Nintendo come out with a 1080p Wii 2 I'll snap one up for sure. :) But in the meantime I don't have a massive problem with the soft images. Personally I'd say that the other problems with Wii graphics (inadequate texture resolution due to small memory, limited lighting capability, limited polygons on screen*, various effects that can't be done on Wii) are all more serious than the limited resolution.
* I don't think anywhere near as many people would be complaining about Wii Dead Rising graphics if they looked exactly the same resolution and quality as at present, but had hundreds of zombies onscreen...

After playing the demo on the 360, I don't think a lack of Resident Evil on the Wii is too terrible a loss. Mikami was clearly the champion behind the franchise and without him it seems the new game is suffering from an identity crisis. The new production heads are well too scared to deviate from the highly successful fourth iteration, which, as we can all clearly see, is evidenced in the same canned animations from RE4.
This lack of ambition smacks in the face of what the Wii is all about; a new style of gaming. It is no longer compatible with the Wii audience. The console luddites on the HD side may adore traversing through the same set pieces with a different (Tintin in the Congo) skin, but I'm sure Wii owners can see though this mundane superficiality. Without Mikami RE is worthless.

'Mundane superficiality' is an accurate descriptor for most of the games that hit the Wii's top ten charts. Stop trying to present an image of Wii owners somehow being smarter or more mature gamers than those who own the other two systems, because every time you do, you back your claims up with the dumbest ideas.
Yeah, the Wii is all about a new style of gaming. It's a shame that only around ten or fifteen Wii games actually BRING that, and most of 'em aren't bringing it through completely new and 'innovative' gameplay styles, but through different controls. wow.
The funniest thing is that you keep trying to present other gamers as 'luddites' for daring to appreciate the advancements we've seen with the other consoles. I guess I should be ashamed of myself for liking to be able to jump onto my system and play through many of the games I own off the bat with my friends without any effort. Or being able to truly feel the kind of atmosphere that the art directors wanted to convey through my sound system and HDTV. Or being able to see old gameplay concepts evolve with the addition of new ideas that wouldn't have been realized on weaker consoles.
You keep trying to say that the other two consoles are low on gameplay, and that their libraries consist of only duplicates of the game that last came out. That's idiotic, and if anything, it only goes to show that you've either got an irreversible bias towards the Wii, or that you just don't play any games that aren't on the Wii or DS.
One last thing. For as much 'potential' as the Wii has, how come I've seen more 'innovative' and 'original' titles on the other two consoles?
OH WAIT, THEY HAVE HD AND ONLINE GAMES, HOW CULD THEY BE IRIGNAL?
that's your logic right thur

I'm just partly basing this on your past posts.
By 'low on gameplay' (which I certainly could have worded better) I mean that you have this tone that suggests that you believe, as far as the gameplay goes, the PS3 and 360 somehow aren't near the Wii in innovation, originality, or fun factor.
I'd agree with that notion if you were speaking of the DS. Not the Wii.

Two things about Resident Evil 5.
1) I absolutely loved Resident Evil 4 and thought that it carried enough of the horror genre as well as the action. When I played RE5, it honestly felt like an action game to me. It kinda bothers me that Capcom focused more on 'pumping lead into hordes of enemies' than 'fighting for your life against zombies', you know? And yeah granted they're not real zombies but whatever. I found myself very disappointed with the game in that department, but thats not to say that it wasn't good. It was pretty cool, though controls weren't.
2) I feel like I would honestly much rather go through that game as a movie, at this point. I feel like I could still get the awesomeness of the story without being too frustrated by controls. Thats really where this game faults, and I think that if I just watched this as an action-thriller movie, then I'd like it more. I guess we'll just have to see the final product...
What I'm saying is that I'm starting to look past the awesome trailers and taking the game for what it is. A cinematic action game that takes place in Africa, but has the Resident Evil story-line. Can't say I'm too pleased with that, but time will tell....don't fuck this up, Capcom.

I won't buy RE5. As gorgeous as the game is, the controls were garbage, garbage, garbage. A game should not make me want to chuck my controller at my expensive HDTV. There's a recession on, I can't afford another one!
I'd rather the gorgeousness had been scaled back and the game published on Wii with RE4 controls. Or at least let me move and shoot.
I have to wonder: is this control scheme, like, a Japanese thing? Or do Japanese gamers hate it as much Westerners seem to?

The funny thing is that the controls would be exactly the same on the Wii except you have an IR pointer. The aiming isn't the problem and the graphical fidelity didn't hinder Capcom from making a true 3rd person shooter control mechanic. It was a design choice that was done purposely. I've never seen so much FUD and misinformation as I have in this thread.

Baby J Penn, you clearly haven't played RE4 Wii edition. It's nothing small. IR makes a humongous difference. Humongous. You wouldn't believe how much it enhances the game. Play RE4 with the Wii, and you'll never want to go back.

Yeah, RE4 must be played to be believed. It is a giant leap forward for the series—and this is coming from someone who's been a fan since the original PSX game.
RE5, by comparison, is just not that fun. Most of that has to do with a poorly-mapped control scheme and wonky thumbstick aiming. Maybe if I had IR aiming, the "stuck-in-place-while-you-aim" thing wouldn't be such a big deal...

Jacob is absolutely correct, McPoop. I wasn't a huge fan of the RE games before the Wii version. Playing the demo of RE5 reminded me of that in spades. But RE4 on the Wii i one of the few games that shows that controls CAN actually change the entire way a game plays and feels.
At this point, I don't think I'll be buying RE5 unless there's a Wii port or MS releases that rumored Wiimote ripoff.

I have played Resident Evil 4 on the Wii as it was my favorite game of last generation. I prefer a gamepad but to each his own. What I'm saying is his original comment of ... "I'd rather the gorgeousness had been scaled back and the game published on Wii with RE4 controls. Or at least let me move and shoot." has more to do with the criticism of a design choice by the developers and nothing to due with time or budget constraints. I know a lot of you are Wii gamers first and I expect you guys to prefer the Wii controls because you prefer that method of input. Personally I like playing with a game pad and whenever I have the chance I play with the classic controller instead of the Wii mote.

I guess this will be an argument that will continue to rage on but just so we are all clear here I have played RE 4 on the Wii with IR controls and I prefer to play it with the Gamecube or Playstation controller. I actually think the IR pointer is extremelt inaccurate compared to a game pad. The WIi mote brings with it another whole set of issues when it comes to motion and moving in tight quarters. I thought it worked good until the shit hit the fan and then the control scheme isn't precise enough.

We still need a Umbrella Chronicles sequel. UC only covered every other game so there can be a second one including, RE2 (which is strange that they skipped the first time), RECV, and RE4.
Posted: Feb 14th 2009 2:36PM Santos L Halper said
I've been thinking the exact thing since I first beat UC. Even though it didn't have Leon and Claire, the Ada and HUNK scenarios were probably my two favorite levels in the game. And for UC 2, they could have a new scenario for Rebecca or Barry as the fourth stage.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Some liberties were taken two always have two players at once (minus the side missions) so I pray they don't try to mesh Ada into Leon's story in RE4.

Posted: Feb 14th 2009 5:56PM Santos L Halper said
Yeah, that would suck. Luis would be the obvious choice but he isn't there for the whole game so I'm afraid they might resort to Ada. As strange as that would be, it would still be better than Leon handing Ashley a magnum and telling her to back him up. Hopefully they'll just decide not to force it and let Leon go alone. I really can't see any reason for not making a sequel. The first one sold really well and apparently they want to put more RE on the Wii.

The producer should want more Dead Space- esque controls. Then I would actually buy the game. Hell, I'm not even gonna rent that shit because of those horrid controls. And yes, it's the same as RE 4. But you wanna know what's the difference between the time that RE 4 came out and RE 5? Dead Space wasn't out back then so people just accepted those controls even though they knew they were horrible.
Posted: Feb 14th 2009 3:33PM Johnnynumber5 is powered by cell said
No I think when RE 4 released it was such a leap in everything we had come to know in RE that everyone sort of enjoyed the game for what it was. Now, it doesn't feel like that same generational leap that we got from 3 to 4 in 4 to 5.

Of course. First everyone was buying up Wii's left and right because it offered something different, and games that anyone could pick up and play. Now, everyone wants the real games that are released on the big systems to come out on the Wii, with huge graphic cuts, and other shortcomings. Have fun.
Posted: Feb 14th 2009 6:52PM Shoyz said
Why would you speak for people if you're ignorant?
People don't want graphic cuts or other shortcomings. People want companies to develop good games for the Wii, and they're willing to accept graphics cuts or other short comings if it means they get to play said good games.
Nobody even bought the Wii due to it being 'different'. I bought my Wii a little over 2 months ago, as late into the console war as it gets. I knew that the Wii was innovative, and the right type of system to support. The first day I had it, I spent hours playing Wii sports. I bet if I had bought a 360, I'd have just left it after a few minutes. In other words, the Wii is fun to play, and the games only add on to that. The 360/PS3 only have good games.

well that's your opinion and you're well entitled to it. Fact is, 90% of Wii owners just bought it because it was the cheapest available. We got one a year and a half ago for my dad because he's old school and wanted to play Zelda...he got halfway through it, got bored, just like me, so now it's a dust collector.
Fact is, everything that can be done for the Wii has been done. They can't rely on Sports games anymore, or these little gimmicky "arcade skeeball/bowling/darts" games, because they're all the same, just developed by different companies and feature different characters (i.e., Nintendo characters, real athletes, or Miis". That's really innovative.

mikemaj82 - "Fact is, everything that can be done for the Wii has been done".
Why? Because it has a different control system? Or because it's not as powerful as the PS3 or 360? Because either of those suppositions (not facts) would be untrue.
If a game is good, people will buy it. Doesn't matter what it's running on. The original GTA shifted thousands of copies. It didn't look as brilliant as a lot of the other games on the PSOne, but it sold well because it was a good game. Mega Man 9 doesn't look fantastic unless you still think it's 1988 - but it's sold well because it's a good game. Super Mario Galaxy only runs up to 480p, but it's sold well because it's a good game.
Yes, the Wii has a lot of crap shovelware on it. What it needs is for 3rd party devs to come up with decent Wii games, whether they're slightly cut down ports with shit-hot Wii-centric controls, or original titles that would work best on the Wii.
Given the size of the Wii owning population, and given it's a market starved of really good games, I suspect that we'll see a lot more original titles and better ports on the Wii. Personally, I'm hoping Lucasarts will re-release all their old adventure games on disc or on Wiiware.

Played the PS3 demo. Hated the controls. Why do so many companies have multiple control layouts in their games, but don't let you define your own? How hard can it be?
I wouldn't mind seeing more RE on the Wii though. It's a great system, but it does need some more involving games than a lot of the currently available titles.

The Wii isn't a powerhouse and that is well known in the gaming world, but using Metroid Prime 3 as an example, the Wii is capable of pulling off very nice and colorful looking games, and i never found any graphical hiccups running very stable (I think it was 60 fps). Many people use the shovelware crap as an example on how the Wii can't perform in terms of graphics, but games like that I mentioned as well as Super Mario Galaxy, it can perform. Hell, just imagine Zelda was produced with the same engine that MP3 was made with!

There are plenty of great games on the PS3 that aren't RE and don't have bitched controls you could spend your hard-earned on. Metal Gear Solid, GTA IV, Orange Box, Uncharted, Call of Duty: MW, etc, etc. Or, you could wait for Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2.

Why on earth has nobody jacked the RE4 control system and produced a decent Wii action/adventure game?
Anything in the Siphon Filter/MGS/Fable/RE4/Uncharted vein would be amazing on Wii. Throw in sidestepping by tilting the nunchuck left and right and you have the absolute perfect third-person shooter control scheme.
Although I second (third? Ninth?) the calls for RE2 remade from the ground up. Heck, I'd take Code: Veronica with the RE4 engine and controls.

I bought UC at launch and hated it, tried again later on and still hated it - traded it in (along w/ Manhunt 2). If only they had done what EA did with MoH: H2, where you could play on rails...or as FP.....that would have made UC really stand out as a solid entry on a N system.
I'm down for any of the following from Capcom re:RE on the Wii:
keep the old control as an option
REmake 2, use RE4 engine
make another pre-rendered game, using the remote (and classic!) controls
REMEMBER the FEELINGS REmake gave you
my battery is dying, that's all...i think

Already there was much horror and evil in this game. But now they are planning to add more on this. Thanks really, but no children will platy that game in the night. I assure you. Adults too sometime wont.
