When Sega announced nine days ago that they'd be releasing another installment in their decade-old tennis franchise, aptly titled Virtua Tennis 2009, we thought they'd made a typo when revealing the systems the game would be gracing. You're telling us that a sport whose main interactive mechanic involves the deft swinging of a handheld object isn't getting the Wii treatment? Sega, are you pot-high?
The fog of confusion has apparently lifted -- in a recent press release, Sega revealed that Virtua Tennis 2009 will, in fact, be coming to the Wii, bringing with it the roster and features from the 360, PS3 and PC versions of the title. These features include online play, and casual "Court Games" minigames that should go over swimmingly at Wii-based family functions. It will also share the May release window with the other versions of the game, bringing it to store shelves just in time for tennis season, if such a thing actually exists.

Virtua Tennis is well too fast for motion controls, so, unless Sega decide to slow the whole game down, they should stick to regular buttons. Either go the whole hog or don't bother.
No PSP release is rather sad. VF2 on the PSP was the best version of the three, and World Tour was a rather good game as well. The Western abandonment of the second best console this generation is so frustrating.

you remember WiiMotionPlus ? or did that slip your mind.
EA is going to use it on the Tennis game they are making for Wii. Sega would be retarded to not delay it and use it.
After WiiMOtionPlus all tennis games that use analog controls will be dated. It would be like playing mario 64 with a control pad.

Is virtua tennis faster than real tennis? Because in real tennis they use "motion controls" and seem to do just fine.

And of course the motion controls that is used in tennis is the same technology they use in the Wii. Thumbs up buddy!

Quick note: "motion controls" is a plural. Please use "are" instead of "is." If you would like to keep using "is," please feel free to drop the "s."
Also, I don't think there has been a complaint about the reaction time of Wii motion controls. Certainly no more of a problem than standard lag from even button presses.

I was shocked when i read that too. SEGA is one company that really makes its money on the Wii (although they are still taking losses), i found it odd that they, of all publishers, would snub it
Of course, most of those publishers who have snubbed it are turning around now. 49% marketshare will do that

Great another game to debate what system to buy it for....
Motion controls on the Wii which would make a game like supremely fun for everyone vs the tight graphics and probably better online play for the 360 version...
Decisions decisions...
But it's definitely a good thing that Sega is including the Wii for this release. I know all the "hardcore" gamers out there like to beat up on it but it deserves decent games too.

Of all of their awesome titles, Virtua Tennis? Seriously, revive Virtua Racing, man. Might as well exploit the Wii wheel more if we're going the path of WiiMotion Plus [granted, I'm not even sure if the Wii wheel could handle the motionplus device... ]. Hell, another Virtua Fighter would be a little exciting.
I don't know, though. These weird golf/fishing/tennis titles can have an irresistable charm if developed properly.

I wouldn't mind a Panzer Dragoon. Hell PD on Wii, PS3 or 360 would be just fine to me!
