So Activision don't want to publish it, except now they sort of do?

More like Activision doesn't want to publish the title, and want something for not doing so.

I was about to say something similar. Activision really is taking EA's place as most douche-baggish gaming corporation. If EA continues to back off of their Securom BS, then they might actually start to look like a good guy in the gaming community.

At Activision, not just Double Fine? Why would anyone have a reason to laugh at DF?

It is imperative that I give you the following information, which Magetto wants concealed from the public. Before I start, however, I should state that to understand what Magetto's particularly virulent form of plagiarism has encompassed as a movement and as a system of rule, we have to look at its historical context and development as a form of wild politics that first arose in early twentieth-century Europe in response to rapid social upheaval, the devastation of World War I, and the Bolshevik Revolution. Pharisaism, in this case, is a tactic tied to a broader strategy of granting him the ability to drag everything that is truly great into the gutter. I explained the reason for that just a moment ago. If you don't mind, though, I'll go ahead and explain it again. To begin with, I don't just want to make a point. I don't just want to allay the concerns of the many people who have been harmed by Magetto. I'm here to give an alternate solution, a better one. I don't just ask rhetorical questions; I have answers. That's why I'm telling you that what I have been writing up to this point is not what I initially intended to write in this letter. Instead, I decided it would be far more productive to tell you that there's an important difference between me and Magetto. Namely, I am willing to die for my cause. Magetto, in contrast, is willing to kill for his—or, if not to kill, at least to leave behind a wake of anal-retentive reaction. There is a certain Burkean prudence that animates people like me to encourage our spirits to soar. There, my ranting is finished.

THIS IS CNN BREAKING NEWS:
CNN has just learn that approximately at 11:45 am, EA's CEO took a massive $h!t at EA studios men's room. Details are still slim as to what force him to take such action. But we have contacted Activision to comment on the matter. Keep it here to watch as this story develops.

I want to share with you a few of the tentative conclusions I've reached regarding Activision's proposed social programs. And I stress the word "tentative," because the subject of what motivates Activision is tricky and complex. You see, I indisputably believe that our country is being destroyed by closed-minded, lethargic present-day robber barons. And because of that belief, I'm going to throw politeness and inoffensiveness to the winds. In this letter, I'm going to be as rude and crude as I know how, to reinforce the point that any rational argument must acknowledge this. Activision's pushy exegeses, naturally, do not.

Here's an extraordinary paradox: All of the despicable freaks who shouldn't be allowed to ensure that there can never in the future be accord, unity, or a common, agreed-upon destiny among the citizens of this once-great nation invariably want to. Activision has convinced a lot of people that governments should have the right to lie to their own subjects or to other governments. One must pause in admiration at this triumph of media manipulation. Furthermore, Activision's whinges should be labeled like a pack of cigarettes. I'm thinking of something along the lines of, "Warning: It has been determined that Activision's taradiddles are intended to bowdlerize all unfavorable descriptions of Activision's insults." If you think that a plausible excuse is a satisfactory substitute for performance then you're suffering from very serious nearsightedness. You're focusing too much on what Activision wants you to see and failing to observe many other things of much greater importance such as that I'm sure it wouldn't want me to eavesdrop on its meetings. So why does Activision want to instill a subconscious feeling of guilt in those of us who disagree with its ultimata? The answer is almost entirely obvious—this isn't rocket science, you know. The key is that Activision's favorite buzzword these days is "crisis". It likes to tell us that we have a crisis on our hands. It then argues that the only reasonable approach to combat this crisis is for it to engage in or goad others into engaging in illegal acts. In my opinion, the real crisis is the dearth of people who understand that Activision avers that university professors must conform their theses and conclusions to its pusillanimous prejudices if they want to publish papers and advance their careers. As you can no doubt determine from comments like that, facts and Activision are like oil and water. Let me end by appealing to our collective sense of humanity: All Activision does is complain, complain, complain.

That post appears to have been originally written about a different company. It looks like you just copied and pasted it then removed said company and replaced it with Activision. It just doesn't make much logical sense. If you did write it about Activision in particular then I applaud you for your intelligent and thoughtful vocabulary as well as your wide ranging lexicon.

yea, it does read like it just copy/pasted that from another source, and the word "Activision" was substituted for something else. I would guess the original letter had to do with an organization that funds university research. Possibly government funded.

Also, "our country is being destroyed by closed-minded, lethargic present-day robber barons." Welcome to the vast majority of human history

I blame WoW.

It made Blizzard way too much money, and turned them into greedy asshats. They sold out to Activision, thus propagating the asshattitude throughout the entire company, which is now the biggest publisher in the industry.

Though I'm still confused on their actions here -- if they WANTED to publish Brütal Legend, why didn't they just KEEP the damn game instead of dumping it like an unwanted sack of used underwear? They only want it back NOW because someone ELSE thought it would be a good idea to publish it, and they'll be damned if they're going to let EA make any money off of it.

So yeah. The gaming industry has regressed to 3rd grade bully tactics, and it's all WoW's fault.

uh, sorry but Blizzard was never this bad, they have had runaways successes with all of their titles, yet they never were asses about it. Hence why they were so loved by both media and gamers alike.

Activision has been like this for a while, even before the merger came around. But yah, now that they own Blizzard they have the money to support their "asshatery" >:C

I think you're a bit confused as to what Activision Blizzard is. It is the result of the merger between Vivendi and Activision, and I'm pretty sure that they tacked on Blizzard onto that name because of the name's association with quality games. Although Activision owns Blizzard, Blizzard has yet to put out a bad game.

I don't see why you dislike WoW either. Although you could criticize the subscription model, it's not like you're not getting your money's worth.

Blizzard is still good people. Why would making more money than they could possibly ever need make them greedy? They already have money that stretches to forever, and they're using it to make more great games.

I blame little Bobby Kotick. I'm glad to see a creative genius like Schafer escape from their clutches, because I've been comfortably boycotting Activision since Call of Duty 4 (not because of that game itself mind you)

It would be interesting if there were any legal grounds for this. Of course, it's just about Activision finally waking up to the fact that in this age of GH and Rock Band, a game about a badass Rocker ronin played by Jack Black could, just perhaps, make some money

Brutal Legend is like MadWorld. Sure the developer has never made a financially viable game before, but this time the mainstream appeal is painfully apparent
