Releasing right on schedule, standalone versions of Guitar Hero World Tour's drums and guitar are now available at retail. The percussion set and the axe have a suggested retail price of $100 and $70, respectively. The Guitar Hero community site notes the items are available at Best Buy and Gamestop, but we've also seen them available online at Amazon.
The standalone plastic peripherals are currently available only in North America. Europe and Australia will receive the items at "a later date." If you have any questions regarding the compatibility of the items across rhythm games, please check out our "Instrument Compatibility Matrix" for a complete rundown.

I favor Rock Band over Guitar Hero and all...
But is there really that much of a difference between the instruments?
I use the Rock Band guitar because for me it plays more comfortably, and sometimes I use the GH one when I'm trying to beat my high score as the frets can be easier to use.
I don't know, but it seems ridiculous for there to be a war over which game's CONTROLLERS are best...
(this is more of a response to what I've been hearing a lot of lately, and not necessarily these comments alone.)

Nope! I don't enjoy getting the tips of my fingers stuck between the buttons on the GH guitar, and it's harder for me to slide my hand on the neck. I like the GH drums better, but I'm not about to drop $100 on them to use with RB, especially since the pads don't match the note placement on screen.
My condolences to you for being a GH fan, though.

Most people hate the RB1 guitar for many reasons (squishy strumbar, squishy frets), and most of them just hate the RB2 guitar for the same reason, one problem, the new one is totally different, same shape, but a hell of a lot more responsive.
I still like the GH3 les paul best though. :P

I agree with GH3 les paul, however much I love mine it always betrays me by suddenly having the green or red buttons stop working. I still use it pretty much exclusively though. Its the only one that has the right 'feel' for me.

i have never understood everyone's hatred for the rock band strat. yes, the strum bar is squishy, but i mean is that such a big deal? it's still as responsive (unless you have a defective one) and you should be able to quickly and easily figure out that a normal strum registers fine even without the nice click. the first time i picked up the controller i was irked by this and the other few differences, but after probably just 30 minutes of playing in a rock band ensemble i was completely sold
and the rb2 strat has a nice barrier, if you will, that gives a firm stop to the strum bar's motion which pretty much simulates a tactile click. and the fret buttons are not squishy on it if that was a complaint about the first one
the only thing i prefer the les paul controller for is upstrumming bass (which is surprisingly enjoyable, probably because i play bass irl, idk)

Why won't my new account keep the image I'm setting? or even the name for that matter? I hate this system!

I bought the complete band kit at HMV in Canada on Friday for $99.99. They had an awesome 50% sale on all Guitar Hero/ Rockband bundles. Saturday was the Best Valentines day ever!

Is there a consensus on which instruments (RB2 vs. GH:WT) are better?
I was thinking of picking up one full set/game for Wii but haven't decided mainly because I've heard vastly different opinions.
Or is it just that both games' instruments are not very durable...

I think the GH:WT drums are better.
The newer bundles have better kits than the launch ones, and the pads feel better. Not only that, but the pads don't bubble up and peel like the RB2 pads (Currently RMAing my RB2 kit because the yellow pad is half-peeled off). The base also feels sturdier, and it is the only drum kit that currently supports a double bass pedal (I used a friend's pedal and an audio splitter on my kit. Yeah, double bass works already!)
However, the RB2 drums have a higher success rate, since the internals aren't as cheaply made. However, the pedal is made out of a hard plastic that is prone to breaking (unlike the soft plastic in the WT pedal). Yes, there is a metal plate, but that only prevents the pedal from breaking, not the hinge or the base.
My first WT drum kit was bad straight out of the box, but my second one is holding up well, and I drum exclusively on it. My RB2 kit is usually in my trunk as the party kit.
The drum sticks with the WT kit are balsa wood, don't play with these cheapass sticks, ever. The RB2 kit comes with some poor-decent sticks. They are heavier, but still pretty bad. Buy some real sticks (Don't go to Best Buy for them either, go to a music store.)
Since you are buying a full bundle on the Wii, get the World Tour kit. GH:WT isn't compatable with RB2 instruments, but RB2 is compatable with GH instruments. You need four Wii remotes, but the compatability is worth it.

As far as guitars go, I don't really have much of a preference over the other. Rock Band's guitar is nice as far as it feels, and Guitar Hero's strum bar and frets are, for some, easier to use over the RB one's quieter touch.
And for the drums I'd kind of say the same thing. RB's have more space to go all out, and GH's obviously has raised cymbols for realism (all though you could buy the 3 cymbol-pack for the RB2 drumset if you wanted that as well)
I don't think there's a better set - it all boils down to your preference. Go try a few of the set-ups at Best Buy for each game and see how they feel to you (if they're not destroyed by the 8 year olds who play them, that is).

Also, another thing about the drumsticks. If you can buy sticks made for electronic drumsticks, your experience might be better. Some nylon tips will soften the blow and make the experience more smooth.
Also, one of my Rock Band drum sticks shattered in half. (I was playing El Scorcho on expert, and it feel out on the double snare hits. I didn't even realize it until I started failing! )

i want the game and i want a drum kit (better than RB's, but not a $200 one) it's be cool if i didn't have to spend the $160 for both brand new. maybe a bundle would cost $140? cuz i'll probably buy it used, maybe on ebay.

You guys might want to update your Compatibility Matrix. RB2 has worked with GHWT drums on PS3 for quite some time now.

They need to start selling bass pedals separately. I've broken my RB pedal and base and I've completely smashed the sensor on my GH:WT pedal.
I assume they'll start selling extra pedals when GH: Metallica comes out. I just hope they're reasonably priced (

This is my current dilema, loved GH LoR but sold it recently.
Want either GH WT with guitar - with possible drum addition.
or
Rock Band 2 with guitar - with possible drums.
I get the impression the GH instruments are better, but RB2 seems to have more and better songs to DL.
What a bloody minefield.

Its not that hard of a choice, buy GH:WT w/instruments and also pick up a copy of RB2. Thats what I did and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks! That's exactly what I wanted to know. Although I would prefer to just have one, suppose i will have to get both games. the good songs are really split between them!
All the more musical joy i suppose.

If you can afford $100 for a set of useless plastic drums do yourself a favor and do what I did (oh also, this is PS3/PS2/Wii only because of the XBox 360 hate for 3rd party solutions):
1) Go to Ebay, locate a cheap set of proper electronic drums for about $200.
2) Buy the $200 kit.
3) Buy a custom made MIDI > USB Rock Band transmitter thing
4) ???
5) Profit.
For the price of two useless plastic abominations you now own a real drumkit that is also compatible with ALL rhythm games, fully customizable.
I now enjoy my Rock Band 2 (and GHWT when I'm really desperate enough to play it) with a fully working hi-hat and the game correctly registering input from all 12 pads/pedals. Oh, and also, I can actually use it as a normal drumkit when I'm in a mood for some rocking out without faking it.

I'm annoyed about the lack of support for European players of Guitar Hero World Tour being brushed off with the comment that they'll get around to releasing stand-alone drums eventually outside the U.S.
When you read the box for the edition of GHWT with the Guitar bundle it clearly states that the drum kit can be bought separately - not in Europe it can't, false advertising I'd say. Perhaps Acitivision would like to give me my money back.

Here's a slightly related question. Has anyone found a good case for carrying around the GH:WT drums? Right now I have been keeping the original box to use to transport everything when playing at someone else's home. But I'd rather get a case that would hold the drums or ideally a full band set up with two guitars as well.
